'03 TL TypeS A-spec any problems?

Pops is thinking of picking up an 03 TL TypeS w/ the A-Spec kit w/ Navi and the works.

Auto with 40k kms on her. Though it includes this $13,000 audio crap, for sure he's gonna strip it out and sell it.

Guy's asking $24k CAD. I figure if we get 3-4k for the audio parts, it brings it down the the usual ~$20k for a model of this year.

Mileage is pretty low imo. Is there any problems with the TL that I should know about? I figure Honda, but remember people taking about bad Honda transmissions. A-spec and Navi also makes the car juicy

DON'T TOUCH IT!

This is quoted from The Mac Ace's thread a few below from an owner:

Do your research on your Tranny's Before you buy a TL. The warranty on all 99-03 (some 03 models not included) is 7 years or 100 000 miles. If I was you Id go for a Maxima! If you do go with the TL its a great car just watch out for the tranny.

My uncle has the same car as your dad is looking at, and he's on transmission #3 after about 50,000 miles

Yeah I remember hearing about it, I guess I was right.

100k or 7 years, that's nice though lol. But is this auto or manual?

It's the auto's. The problem with having a bad transmission is it'd be ok if it was something you can drive the car to the dealer for, but 2/3 times my uncle had to have it towed in, and pay for the tow himself.

We have CAA (Canadian version of AAA) so we get a few free tows a year.

We'll be the 3rd owner of this car, I wonder if the warranty is transferable.

Well, I'd say go for it if you really don't have anything else to do, or have other cars you can take. Otherwise avoid it like the plague because it'll just end up causing problems and headaches.

Heh yeah, dad's jumping all over the place with cars. He wants to get rid of this MB soon.

Anyways he's been looking at the 300C, now the TL-S and I think he just left to go test drive a CTS. TL-S being the cheapest ~ 20k CAD

Lol just brought home the CTS for a test drive, looks nice, decent power, center stack is kinda ugly for a Caddy, but everything else is niceee

Hmmm... 40k miles?? check out if the tranny has been replaced before. It's not that big of an issue just watch out and as soon as you feel it act weird bring it in to Acura they will replace the tranny for free before 100k miles. It's a nice Car I love my 2000 I plan to keep it for a long time. Im at 139k miles and im fine No major repairs were done just regular maintentance. I wouldn't say not to get a TL, just test it out if everythign is fine get it!

On the '03's, I'd be more concerned after 40k if the tranny hasn't been replaced yet, based on history.
