Buying high mileage cars

So I've been thinking about getting another car, but this time I have to get a relatively cheap one since I no longer associate with my family. I was thinking of something like a 2001 infiniti I30, but most of the ones I've seen have between 80k and 100k miles on them. I'm a little worried about buying such a high mileage car since I'm hoping to have it last me at least until I get to med school (3 years). Has anyone had any experience buying high mileage cars? I'm wondering if I'd be better off getting something with less miles and spending more.

Higher mileage I30's probably won't give you a lot of issues. Figure they're upscale Maxima's. My uncle has a 2001 with 80k on it and he doesn't have a ton of issues. I know that his steering wheel controls don't work, but that's it

Edit: If you can spend more, go for it. Try to get something maybe with a warranty, or certified. If something DOES go wrong with that car, then chances are it won't be exactly cheap to fix, being an Infiniti.

You could get a lower end car like a maxima with lower mileage for a better price.

If I was going to spend more, then I was thinking of getting a newer G35 sedan or something.

The maxima may be worth looking at since they are essentially the same as the i30

Edit: Checked out the maxima a little more, I don't think I'm going to consider it, there's something about the interior that I just don't like.

I may save up a little longer and go for an 03 or 04 G35 sedan, I'm liking them more and more but they are a little out of my price range. I was hoping to go up to 16k, which is fine for the i30, but I'm gonna be spending 21-22k for a G35 on top of insurance (its almost painful to think about what my insurance is gonna be).

80-100k is not really high milage, a car does around 20-25k per year so its pretty normal.

Those are miles, not km. Average for miles is 12-15k a year

^ oh my mistake

I'd stick to a early 90's Toyota or Honda. What you're looking for is cheap basic transportation that can be repaired anywhere.

Nah... he's looking at Infiniti I30's and the Maxima wasn't luxurious enough for him, so he's considering a G35. He's looking for upscale, reliable cars. G35's probably the best bet.

Or, if you want to go higher Braindead, you can pick up a 2002 Q45 for around what a 2004 G35 costs. Dunno if that's too high in pricerange for you though

Posted by: braindead5400

The Q45 is nice, but I'm not really sure its a "me" car. I think I'll just save up for the G35. I'll just have to wait until around August to get one.

You won't be disappointed with the G35

If you want to go used, I would suggest to add an extended warranty options. It's a really great investment especially for higher milleage cars.

I'll probably do that, and I'm sure they'll offer one because I'm planning on buying from a dealer. I don't think I would feel comfortable just buying it as-is

my friend has a 96 infinit g20 he bought it with 110,000 miles 3 or 4 yrs ago now it has like 150,000 and he never had a problem with it he does his normal oil changes and stuff and it runs. im the same way with high mile cars but if its a good brand and god quality shouldnt be a prob just get a carfax report and stuff and u should be good to go!

I bought my Bronco with 113k miles on it and it did need some minor things down the road but it still runs like a champ. right now it has about 155k and it still is running strong. We also have a 1990 infiniti q45 and since it is so old, things are starting to break on it. If you plan on driving it daily, you really should not have many problems. Our inifinti sat for a few years and it is now starting to show its age.

Disownment because of my sexual orientation

that is so freaking lame. your family sucks if they can't accept you for who you are, and you're better off without them.

I second that one, but unfortunately that's not the only occurance I've heard of this one.

Best of luck to you, man. Sounds like you're headed into a very positive and successful direction.

agreed with rupp. you are more respectable than your family could ever be if you're ready to accept who you truly are and they aren't.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

not a problem! We hofoers are a tight community here, there isn't much hate to go around (except for the occasional flame war )
