Anybody put rigtones/music from a Mac to LG 8100 vx?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have Macs and an LG 8100vx I have tried Bitpim and a couple other apps -- I can archive and add to the Verizon LG 8100vx address book / contact list with a USB cable but I have not been able to add any of my mp3s or midi files to the phone.
BTW- The Bitpim faq says the app replaces ALL the sounds with the ones displayed in the dialog as ringtones - which are only 5 of the ... i dunno -- 25? on the phone as it comes from Verizon. I have been waiting to try the experiment as I don't want to wipe out all the vanilla ringers -- although I could lose the cheesy musical ones without any pain;-).
Is that what will happen? ALL the ringtones will be gone, replaced by whatever i succeed in copying over?

Anyway, I haven't made it happen yet -- what am I missing?
I have googled every term I can think of -- any ideas?
thanks,
Mike

I was able to relatively easily. I use File Viewer and then right click on the "mr" folder to add tones.

The only File Viewer I find online is an update to a Canon digital camera app.
Is that what you are using?
If so, how do I get an original (only updaters are online)
thanks,
Mike

^ Sorry about the confusion. I use BitPim, and File Viewer is an option within Bitpim. Some phones are fully supported by Bitpim and you can use a graphical interface to do what you need, but my phone (vx-8100) doesn't seem to be fully supported so the only way to add ringtones (I use my mini sd card and reader for everything else) is by going into File Viewer mode.

In File Viewer, you see the inside of your phone essentially in the same way you might see your hard disk on your computer, with folders, subfolders, files, etc.

Bitpim will not remove the built in ringtones, ever.
Make sure you get the latest version (0.8.13) from The lg8100 version can be downloaded at http://bitpim.org/#download it was just released today.

^ So far I'm still having to use the File Viewer to upload new ringtones. The only difference, so far, with this new version is I can see my ringtones in the graphical interface, but when I try to 'add' a new one, I get an error message.

The last several times I launched Bitpim, it encounters an exception and goesno further.
I downloaded the latest version and am running it on 10.4.6
any ideas?
thanks,
mike

Can you post the exception log. Although it is built on 10.3.9 it usually works on 10.4.

Are you sure you have the correct port set in the bitpim settings?
You have a look at the phone wizard and make sure you have the correct port. It looks like it is wrong.

If you've got the money to spend, I'd just get a MiniSD card and reader for the flix, pix, and sounds. I only use bitpim for ringtones.

I am new to this forum and just getting started with the ringtones, bluetooth, etc., thing. I have an LGVX 8100 that I am trying to pair to my Mac (OS X 10.4) so that I can ultimately upload ringtones from the Mac to the phone. I have a bluetooth adapter connected to the Mac but am having difficulty connecting with the phone. In going thru the pairing process, I get the "successfully paired" message however, when I return to the phone's start page, the bluetooth logo is still white. Verizon Wireless technical support says that their network only supports bluetooth headset connections but not Mac/PC's. My gut tells me that this jive so I wanted to see if anybody has been able to successfully connect the two and how.

Thanks.

Peter

What's going on here?

Mike,

I haven't made any attempts in the past several months to load MP3's, etc., to my phone. It became too complicated and I don't have the time and patience to figure it out. Sorry.

Good luck.

Peter

Buy a 6 dollar usb cable for the phone. I haven't tried it with bluetooth but with a cable using usb, audacity, and bitpim, it's been pretty simple uploading ringtones to my phone.
