Cingular 2125 GPRS/EDGE Switching

Hi everyone. I am on my second Cingular 2125. The first phone would drop calls for no reason. I would have full signal and the call would drop. Sometimes, I couldn't even make a call (with full signal). I sent the phone back and got a replacement. This phone spends most of it's time on the GPRS network (the big G on the screen). It will occassionally switch to the EDGE network, but only stays there for a two or three minutes before it switches back. My first phone would be on the EDGE network all the time. Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change to make it stay on EDGE or is there a setting that Cingular needs to send to my phone?

I hope this makes sense. Thanks.
Chris.

Don't want to throw off the original question but.. I have a MOTO V551.. Everytime I connect the phone displays GPRS on the main screen inside. Would the phone say EDGE ?

i got my bill last night and i had a $33 charge for downloading data. i don' recall doing this, but i also noticed just now that sometimes cingular gprs turns on by itself. even after i turn on wifi and turn it back off, that gprs is still connected.

i have a feeling my phone is transmitting data which results in these charges. how do i stop this?

Hi passatdream, I just got my 2125, and I am having the same problem with you, some time I have to make multiple calls to get the phone to connect. I hope Cingular has a fix on this. My 2 yrs. old Nokia w/ Cingular never had a problem like that.
