My RAZR : (

I purchased my black RAZR V3 from a Cingular Store back on 2/8/2006. I have never dropped the phone and it has worked perfectly until last week.

When I close the phone and flip it back open I will find the screen is white and it is like the phone is restarting. Once the screen comes back the Network ID will be missing above the date and the background will be gone. Then it will all come back and the bluetooth icon will flash as if I had just turned the phone on. Then all is well until the next time this happens.

It doesn't restart with the HELLO MOTO and Cingular start-up page, rather it seems to skip that part and just reload the OS.

It never drops calls, unless I am using my headset and flip open and close the phone. Ideas?

Sounds like you just need to do a warranty exchange. Since you bought it at the Cingular store recently, this should be no problem.

ummmm....call warranty exchange.

What bothers me is that if I call warranty exchange, my phone that is only two months old gets replaced with a refurbished model. I paid for a new phone. edit: I should note that if my phone was 6 Months+ old I wouldn't be concerned with a refurb.

Can I get it replaced with a new one under the recall? On the Cingular site it says phones purchased between 2/1 and 3/30 can be returned to the store of purchase. Is this true?

listen, why dont people understand this... it is gone over 40 times a day

1) your phone is NO LONGER new, therefore, you shouldnt get a new one!
2) cingular gives you 30 days to get a new phone as a replacement should something go wrong with yours
3) Refurbs are 99.8297292% of the time in better working condition than new ones because they have been inspected

If the website says you can return it at the store of purchase, just print out that page from the website, go to the store with phone in box, and explain the situation. It's worth a try.

Would you be happy if you got a refurb that someone only used for 2 months? I mean seriously if you had gotten the phone the same day you would have every right to get a new phone because, well it IS new. If you use the phone even one day then it is a refurb because it isn't new, however it may be in like new condition. I am sorry for the problems that you're having with the V3 but that seems typical. I have been through 4 personally, I only use my V3 if I forget my other phones. Also if you get a new phone since the V3 is under the recall it should be the V557. Hope this helps and good luck!

The store is going to exchange it for a new one.

I am very disappointed with Motorola. Since I switched from Nokia phones to Motorola I have had constant phone problems. I start back on the v60, moved to the v600, and then to the v3. I had more problems with each new Motorola phone I got. I thought after the RAZR has been out for over a year, that it would much better than my v600.

Wrong! My v600 has half as many problems. Im stuck with the v3 now. The store will even exchange it for another RAZR. I can't swap for another phone.

Your right about the exchange. I think I am more frustrated with the fact that I am exchanging a $400 phone (MSRP), that is two months old. I have babied this RAZR, have not dropped it or abused it in anyway.

A phone of this level should last longer then two months, or maybe I am living in the past. I can accept that not all phones come off the line perfect. However, the RAZR V3 seems to be screwed up out of the box and if you have a good one, then it is rare.

Hello Moto? More like Bye Bye Moto.

I'm glad you were able to get an exchange, hopefully, although not likely. This V3 won't give you any trouble. I have to agree with you about Motorola lately a LOT of their phones are really lacking, I keep going back however perhaps I'm stupud? I do have to say some of their other phones not released in the US (like the V635) are REALLY good phones. I just wish that some of that magic could come the US in a form other than unlocked world phones.

It is a firmware problem. The v600s had the same issues.

My girlfriend's RAZR has similar problems. We just power cycle the phone (turn it off and back on) or just remove the battery and restart it that way. Happens maybe once a month at the most. She leaves the phone on constantly like most people do. The warranty group will most likely have you do this process to see if it fixes your problem.

I returned the phone. I lost three calls in a week because of it. The store replaced it under the recall because I bought the phone on 2/8. So I had an extension on my return policy. Regardless if it is firmware or not, I feel safer having one of the new phones after the recall. The box is marked with a black dot and a red band to indicate it is after the recall.

Plus, I got a new phone rather then a warranty exchange phone. Non-Corp Cingular stores are good after all.

I went to the store, I got my black razr from walmart and all they could tell me was to call the 1 800 801 1101 number for an exchange. They are probably going to blacklist me, I have called 3 times for the razr, my third razr got exchanged for a w600i and now that is messing up. grrr...
