703shf or 903sh question URGENT

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi everyone,

My panasonic phone was dropped to my washer, so I need a new phone. I want to get a Sharp, eitehr 903 or 703, but it seems like 903 is really hard to find. I need it quick as my panasonic phone is NOT working

Anyways, is there any problem using 703sh in Northern California (SF area?)

My cousin's 903 has this annoying reprovisioning message, is there anyway to get rid of it now?

Is there any problem with voicemail icon? ( huge issue with my pansonic phone)

Do i have to re-enter my entire phone book because of the search method on japanese phone?

Thanks!! I will be using tmobile!

Well I just got my 703SHf yesterday and I am having no issues at all in the SF area. I'm on Cingular though. After spending a few days on these boards I think I can help you answer some of your questions but I recommend searching for yourself as well:

1 - Reprovisioning. Seems like there is no issue with the new firmware except for the Japanese one. Not much of an issue though as it's only one more click. I thought Timsta had a full unlock but one of his new posts seemed like he hasn't really got into the 703SHf so I think the 703SH has this problem solved but not hte 703SHf. Another thread mentioned somthing about flashing the 703SH firmware onto the 703SHf which will get rid of the reprovisioning problem.

2 - Never heard about a problem with the voicemail icon. I just set the VM# to speed dial, no need to go into the menu and click an icon.

3 - You will have to edit your phone book and add an entry I believe if you stored them on your SIM as the Japanese will sort by 'Reading' format. You will have to add the name into the 'Reading' field for each number so it will sort properly. If you stored them on the phone, I don't think there is a way to transfer them.

Hope this helps you a little. All the information I found on this forum so try taking a look around. There's alot of information out there.

Thank you so much!

I'm hoping this will work since my V3 is now unusable.

Posted by: Timsta

sucks about your v3.. did you get it reflashed?

Posted by: faye

I haven't done anything to it yet, I think i made the mistakea bout turning it on after digging it out from water, is it still savable?

Posted by: Timsta

eek.. how long did you let it dry before turning it on?

Posted by: faye

Unfortunately, I can't remember. I thought I waited a few hours, but that certainly didn't help.

Timsta- so, I figured out the mp3 ringtone issue, is it true that I can only assign one mp3 as a ringtone at a time? (no group ringtone or assign to a certain person) since i have to assign the ringtone to be ima file? very confusing.

Also, what kind of memory card work best with this phone? does the brand matter?

One last question, does it matter which Bluetooth to use? Does it lag? Thanks~!!!

I have a GX25 that my brother left in his shorts pocket and put straight in the washing machine (he forgot it was there). It came out nice and clean, but never ever turned on again. This was about 3 months ago and it still doesn't turn on. Eventually I'm planning to get a star screwdriver and disect the thing for the fun of it.

Posted by: faye

AL9999, maybe I can send you mine and let you open it and play with it, i am not good with hardware at all and i am not getting that screwdriver just for that. :P

Posted by: AL9999

Nah don't send it to me, I'm not an expert on the insides of mobile phones, hehe. I don't know when I'll get around to opening my GX25 anyway...

one mp3 ringtone at a time. one mp3 ringtone per contact.

mini-sd.. sandisk or kinsgton will do.. even toshiba.. panasonic cards will work well too.

nah.. doesn't matter which BT to use. no lag

I thought i got my ringtone problem solved. I used the "trick" IMA file, and it went back to a random tone. Is it because I'm using itunes to convert? I've read similar problem somewhere, is there other software where I can convert to mp4? Thanks!!

im sure that if the phone was on when you dropped it, it is toast or something haha.

about repro, it can be removed. there are 2 ways. both require flashing; 1 of the ways, the better way, requires sending to Tim to do. the other way also works but you cannot do master reset and you must send your phone AND SIM to one of us.

answering machine is possible on Euro firmware as well as Japanese.

and ur phonebook must be re-entered in the READING field of each contact.

Posted by: faye

Can tim flash the 703shf to euro version too?I'm tired of the reprov-

Also, do i need an adator for the mini SD to work on my laptop? Seems kind of small to stick it in.

Posted by: majidekeitai

Check your laptop faye and the compatibility of the type of memory cards it takes. How are we going to know what type of options your laptop came with?

Some say the Panasonic card reader solves the ringtone issue with the Japanese firmware but it's hard to find. You can buy them from the 'Featrued Merchants' in the Japanese Amazon but you'll need a Japanese address. If not, there are many reader out there as well as adapters.

703SHf only ever had a JP version made, but I believe flashing of the 703SH's Euro FW onto the 703SHf is possible. Tim can confirm that...

Posted by: Timsta

it is possible. but very troublesome.. drivers.. and what not.. you can brick the phone if done improperly. i don't recommend it.

Posted by: majidekeitai

i guess that's why the 703SHf is so unpopular. it's just a preference on what you want with the phone. always do your research before buying

Posted by: Timsta

the colours are nice tho.. its a nice variation from the other ones. but yah.. u gotta ressearch before u buy.

Posted by: faye

I know... actually, it doesn't bother me that much now.. I really like my phone, now if i can only spend the time to enter everyone's nam on the reader field, I will be a happy bird!

Posted by: Timsta

enjoy doing that. i spent 3 hours entering over 400 contacts.. but its permanently stored on my pc now.. so i just go slap yhappy when i need to

Posted by: faye

do you do it with handset manager ? i dont' understand how typing it inmy pc can transfer to my phone please help?

Posted by: hankit

there used be 703shf in chinese fw (703sh type), but suddenly no one has it anymore for upgrade....I have seen pictures of it in person, and did happen to hear it was avaliable for flashing...but when I was about to upgrade...they said they stop doing it...
SV issues? problem of the fw along? I never knew the full story...

I heard you can edit it through excel...i dunno how though..

Usually, if you have IR or Bluetooth, you can sync your phonebook and save it to your pc..
Normally, the file can be use on both 903sh and 703sh/f...but i havent try it with myself....

Posted by: Timsta

you can edit your contacts via excel.. using the .csv file.. the comma split value file... its a lenghty process tooo.

Hi,
As far as i know, the 703SHf uses the mmf format for ringtone right? but when I found a mmf ringtone and use the SD card to transfer the file to my cell, it cannot play. it said "Title" [Invalid]. Anyone knows why? does it relate to the panasonic card reader problem???
thx.

Posted by: majidekeitai

Make sure that your mmf file is below 300K.

Posted by: racochiro

my cell said the date made is 2005 Oct... so is it the older or newer version of fw??

Posted by: Timsta

older version of firmwar.e. original

I have 703SH (european version unlock). It worked well including mp3 music players. However, I thought I made a mistake by taking out the battery when the phone reading miniSD Card. Now, the phone runs improperly. It can't be switched off. It reboots/initializes almost every 15 minutes. it hangs up when camera shut. It hangs up when playing MP3. Tim..or other gentlement please advise to fix it.

on the mmf of the 703sh that i have i used the yamaha WSD and it works no prolbem but just make sure yopu set it as MA-3 or MA-2 but use MA-3 its better quailty.

MA-5 and below will work on 902 and MA-7 and below will work on 903

if not you can use the IMA.m4a thingy by tricking the phone. it works very well and its easier to get M4a then mmf... and it sounds better =D
