my friends nokia 6230 went through the wash and he gave it to me knowing im the master of cell phone around here. I opened it up, dried it, re washed out all the detergent and now im drying that. Ive replaced the battery. Its only about 6 or so months old, do you think it would get warranty replaced or no? How would they find out if it was water damaged or w/e

thanks

One of the first things they ask you is "does your phone have any water damage?" If you answer "no" and send the phone in, they will charge you for the exchange. There are markings inside the phone. They can and will be able to tell if it has ever been wet.

There is no warranty exchange for a washed phone. Sorry.

yeah, give that little bundle of joy 6230 a propper back yard burial with a marked grave.

when I had to exchange one of my phones, the rep told me to open up the battery cover and tell him if I see a "red" dot around the area where the SIM chip goes in. He told me that all phones are marked with this invisible dot where if there is a water damage, the red dot will show. And sure enough, one of my friend dropped his RZR in the water and we checked inside the cover, RED DOT !

So good luck and hopefully it will work still

this thread will be locked, hofo does NOT encourage fraud

If you've ever wonder what the small white sticker by your SIM card is, that's the waterproof indicator. Once that sticker becomes orange or red, you can kiss your warranty goodbye. They'll know it's been wet!

Posted by: I have a phone

there's nothing to replace it with. The phone is EOL

Posted by: triple5soul8781

EOL what that mean? I dont see any water stickers on the phone either

Posted by: jvanbrecht

EOL == End of Lifed, they no longer carry or support it.

Warranty will not cover anything other then manufacturer defects. If you have insurance, thats another story, thats what you are paying for, piece of mind in case there is an "accident" of some sort that wrecks the device. Water or not, hell throwing it at your friends and watching it explode, they will still have to replace it, if not, then I would recomend you demand your insurance premiums back for the duration you have been paying for it on your phone.

Also without insurance you are pretty much SOL. Even without the sticker, if someone thinks they are slick just by removing the water mark sticker. They can still open the phone and determine that the phone has corosion so either way unless you had insurance you are now stuck with a dead phone, sorry.

The battery prong things would be corroded too, they are super sensetive.

Interestingly, the Nokia 6230 has no sticker as far as I've ever encountered. In fact, I've never encountered any type of water damage indicator on Nokias. That's not to say they don't exist (they're probably within the phone casing or perhaps integrated into the label or something).

On my s710a I still remember a distinct white sticker with red polkadots. And of course there is a water dot on my sister's v551. But I can't find a visible water indicator on my 6682, and that also was the case on the 6230

But to the OP, sorry buddy you're out of luck. Indeed, please do give it a proper burial if it doesn't work at all. The 6230 was one heck of a great phone.

Yes!

They'll definately cover it. It's got one of them "magic" warranties that covers customer stupidity! Besides, there's no way that anyone could ever find out if an electronic device has seen water. That is waaaay to ahead of our time.

on nokia phones the water indicator is on the battery. look around the edges and see if you can find a white sticker with a red line through it. there is another indicator inside the casing of the phone (from what i'm told) and if you do an exchange on it, they will be able to tell if it has liquid damaged.

ifits on the battery, wont it not matter if i switch the batteries then

Phone gets dropped in water and folks still try to pawn it off as a warranty

I dont understand this thread, how is anyone in here going to know what the warranty department is going to do or not do??

Like I say to customers in this situation, either you get away with it or you dont, roll the dice with your $175 (or whatever it is these days) you'll be billed for the replacement if they catch the damage and see what happens. We can speculate in here all night long, but you wont know the answer to your OP until you send it in.

Posted by: Chd176

If I was the OP I would not even attempt to do an XBM, I mean if they do replace it and find out that it did have liquid damage you would be charged the full price for the phone. I'm sure the folks at the service center for XBM aren't stupid and can see liquid damage even if you take off the liquid indicator or switch the battery. Personally it's too big of a risk to take, not to mention that is what we have insurance for.

they should be forced to cover anything that hinders you from using your phone including water damage. we as customers have the RIGHT to be stupid and the RIGHT to FREE REPLACEMENTS for WHAT EVER REASON because we are the CUSTOMER

Riiiight... So when my phone isn't manufactured anymore, I'll just smash it and claim a free replacement for a newer one.

That's gonna happen...

A piece of advice: if you ever have your own business, think things through first.

Why does everyone pay the ripoff fee of $3-$4 per month when you can go to your homeowner insurance carrier and add a NO deductable rider for $30 a year that will cover your phone your walkman laptop or anything else you want to add! Screw Lockline!

How old are you? You don't have to own a home. It's called a "Inland Marine" policy.
