Qtek 8310 Questions

Ok so I got my 8310. So far I am going to say best smartphone I have owned (and I have had alot), but that could change.

This is my first 05 windows version and I am not sure about a few things.

1. Is there anyway to put ringtones and pictures on my memory card, and then get the phone to recognize them, or do they have to be inserted into the file on the phone memory.

2. Is there anyway to apply specific ringtones to specific contacts? There was a program on my Jam to do this, and I can not figure it out for the life of me on this Qtek

3. There was an imate website for support and updates of ROM, is there such a thing for Qtek, and how do I get them if not?

4. When I pair to another phone to transfer date and ringtones and such, should I make it a serial device (what is this for that matter)? Also do I then need to setup inbound and outbound com ports. I have been unable to send or receive any data from other phones to this point, although I am fairly sure it is just my ignorance. The bluetooth headset synced and works just fine.

5. Seems when I sync with outlook now I do not have an option to sync my notes as well? Why is this and can I do it, not that it is critical, but would be nice to be able to have them.

6. Last and biggest for me. On the today screen (home) it lists the following items: Carrier info and then one line of data (in my case all day appts) and then upcoming appts, then profile, then messages. Is there a way that I can have more then one line of data on the second item (I have multiple all day appts I would like to see on the screen if possible).

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for all help.

1) This goes for any WM device (smartphone or PDA) so if you had any before you should know. For WMP or WM OS to see your items on your device you have to put them in the My Documents folder. Create a music folder and all that just like you do on your desktop and put your music there. When you open WMP they'll show up there. For ringtones it's a tad harder and you'll need to edit the registry i think but ringtones are usually small (mine are ~50KB in WMA format) so i store them on the phone itself. having a ringtone for everyone? That's just crazy! LOL

2) All smartphones are like this, go into the contacts app, select the one you want then edit it, scroll down and you'll see "Custom Ringtone" ... the files there are located in /application data/sounds not the my documents folder. That's why i just store them on the phone cuz that's where that folder is.

3) not sure exactly where but the QTEK support site should usually be the first place to check:

here's some more info:
http://www.modaco.com/NEW_Qtek_8310...ry-t234566.html

4) For BT pairing you just gotta set it to discovery mode just like you did for your headset then add it. Once it's added you go to file explorer select a file and choose send via BT. I don't know for sure if all these features are the exact same on yours but the basic idea is the same.

Serial profile= think of a serial port like on your PC. They were used for modems and other COM stuff back in the days but USB is now well, Universal Serial Bus.

5)U try it and let us know. I never had that option but maybe you installed some software (papyrus i think) that syncs with outlook notes. Notes doesn't sync with WM by default.

6) Search how to edit the XML homescreen file or get a program called Facade:

http://www.smartphone.net/software_detail.asp?id=870 (program that can do it for ya)

Ok so first of all thanks for taking so much time to answer me.

The last windows phone I used was my Imate Jam. On this one I can store the ringtones on the memory card, and then when I used the application (I can not remember the name or it but something like photo contacts) it would find pictures and ringtones on my card. Maybe this is a result of the program and not the phone. If so it was a cool program and maybe I can find it somewhere.

2. Duhhhh to me.... I must have looked for that like a million times and just did not see it. I am sorry for that stupid ?

Thanks for the other info I will check into it now.

create a folder on your card titled Application data in that create a folder called Sounds, place ring tones here. phone should pick them up as normal

Conan, I tried your idea but it did not work. Any ideas? I'ld obviously ratheruse my memory card than my phone for storing ringtones.

Edit: Atleast on the 8310, you need to store the desired ringtone in the root directory of the Storage Card

try creating my documents then my sounds just like the ones on the phone it should pick them up no problem mine does and sorry about the confusion but home screen plugins can be run from SD card in the applications data/ Home folder created on the SD so I just presumed sounds could too
