Just got my Treo 650 this past weekend. I love this phone. Except for the one dead pixel on the screen that i'll have to get over. I've been around here for awhile just new to the Palm scene and was wondering if I should upgrade my current software 1.13-ROW to the new 1.20 that i noticed was available on the Palm site. I know with past phones sometimes it was good to upgrade and sometimes not. So I am looking to the Pro's for the answer.
One more question.. Is it normal for the phone to switch to off mode say if I enter an area with no reception for awhile? I've noticed a few times that when I went into the break room at work where there is no reception when I leave my phone mode is switched to off? Is this how it is suppose to be? Any answers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Are you happy with your current software? If you're happy with it, then you should stick with it. If not, then you should definitely hit up the 1.20 as i think it fixes some of the bugs that are in the earlier software.
I've got 1.15 CNG and there is a 1.17 upgrade out there, but im perfectly happy with what i have right now as it performs all the functions i need and it doesn't lock up.

Very good topic. I had FIVE replacement phones, which, at the time, all had V1.15-CNG. It was AWFUL. The flashing and clicking noise. So I went back to my original Treo 650 (V1.04) and was happy. I was very hesitant to upgrade to V1.17-CNG, which SUPPOSEDLY fixed those and other issues. After talking to a few people who had done it and who said it was fine, I finally took the plunge and now, everything works flawlessly. The lesson here is, upgrading to new firmware is NOT always a good idea.

Especially from the 1.06 - but to go from that I think you need to take several steps.
My phone does not switch off with no service and, depending on how large the no service area is I prefer that. On several of my routes the no service area is quite extensive so I manually turn off the phone. Sometimes I forget to cut it back on, lol
