app to block phone from making email & web data connection?

so, Verizon has an option that if you do not want to check email or surf the web, they can make the plan NO DATA for your Treo.. but in doing so, you cannot use TXT message or send pictures!

lame I think.

so, is there an app for the phone you know of that will allow you to stop all data access applications (like web or browser or email) so it does not accidentally get started up and used and thus, get you the fat bill?

How would you "accidently" use data?

My carrier allows you to block different types of data, so I wouldn't have a need for it.

I have no idea if there is an app to do that, but I have never heard of one.

Its simple.

Go to Prefs--> network.

Create a new connection with totally bogus values so that if the phone tries to connect it cant.

As long as you leave the new connection selected it will always use it to try to connect.

But if you want to send pictures you will have to switch back to the National Access connection. Pix messaging uses Data, Text does not. there is no way around this. So depending on how many pictures you plan on sending you may want a data plan.

easy.... someone picks up the phone thinking you have a data plan and goes to connect to the web to get some directions. Maybe, but less likely, a Web or Mail or Downloads button gets hit and data negins to transfer.

also, what if someone sends you a text message with a link in it (which happened to me yesterday) you could inadvertantly connect that way as well.

my carrier, Verizon as explained, does not block different data only ALL data or nothing.

With my old phone I didn't want to be able to access the internet. I had friends at a party turn on my internet and surfed around w/o me knowing b/c I was ... sleeping. Yeah, sleeping. Anyways! I can happen when you don't want it to!

I had Sprint disable my IP so there was no way to connect. Ronin's solution would do the same thing AND you wouldn't have to go to the store! Yay!

seems like Ronins idea stop SMS and MMS messaging. I still want that. and it seems his idea would mean going into Netowkring when I wanted to SMS and back and forth and back and forth.... I liked it until I read it would also interfer with texting with picts.

Having a bogus Data connection will not interfere with SMS messages only PIX messages.

PIX messaging uses the internet connection to transfer the pictures data, no way around it. AFAIK there is no app to only let certain applications use the internet connection.
