Looks like Vodafone has begun selling the 904sh for 24800 yen (at their online shop)

You forgot the tax. With tax added on it's 26,040 yen, so it's pretty much what we've been predicting all along.

I'm amazed at the package contents. Phone, charger and software CD. That's it. No earphones, AV out cable, stand, nothing. Talk about cost cutting...

Yup... it's the new subscriber price, not the upgrade one. Also official announcement today that they'll start being sold on the 15th. For once the rumour mill was correct, heh

Yes, with this being one of the most anticipated phones in a long time, AND there no being an international version of any sort, I'm sure they'll be making it harder than ever for people outside Japan to get a hold of one.

sold on the 15th is what my guys are telling me too. if its about $260 bucks for a new user, its gonna be premium to get this phone.

haha. little is to say the least. it takes forever to take apart and put together. its not very fun and you sometimes get realy stubborn phones that refuse to play nice

Well i would love to get a 904 just cause of its anti-shake.. but everything else is pretty much the same.... I wouldn't want to get a brick during unlock... but hopefully someone would wanna trade my 903 for a 904 xD unloked for course HA!

Here's a video of the 904 in use including some of the vodafone japan features. Pretty sweet. Especially the anti shake! Do u think that they still will have the "not playing mp3 problems" just like the JP fw 903 again?

Yes, the MP3 restrictions are unchanged. This is Voda Japan policy for all their phones, and unless Softbank is so kind as to believe that MP3 support should be added, then it will stay unchanged. That they decided to allow AAC files to be played without change was surprise enough to me.

Let me get this straight, this phone is a Japanese only release ??? If that is so what makes you think it would be any different from the zillions of Japanese only phones that do not work outside of Japan ?

LL, it's a 3G/GSM device, therefore it can connect to networks outside Japan. Vodafone Japan's 3G phones all do this (except a two NEC ones).

the blue, USB is now 2.0 (99% sure), but Bluetooth is still 1.2.

well. i'm thinking it'll be about 80 bucks to unlock later. when can we unlock it? dunno.. hopefully soon.. i'm thinking it will be a open the phone type deal at first. it is definitely a better deal to buy now. unlock later. unless you are strapped for cash and have to wait anyways.

Ok guys... I've been reading the Japanese forums for some info on the 904SH's particular improvements over the 903, and have learnt some interesting things (these are very particular details, yes):

* There's now a small video that plays when sending mail; notification scrolls across the top status bar to say mail is sent without sending you back to the standby screen
* When in a Java app, you now get scrolling notifications in the status bar when receiving messages, much like it would in the GX series, unlike the 903 which displays the name and an icon only
* Speaker volume is much louder now when ringtones are played
* Ringtones can now be set from the memory card, not just handset memory
* When viewing pictures in the picture folder, they automatically appear in full screen. Slideshow scrolling still works via * and # buttons.
* 16 thumbnail viewing only works on pictures, not other file types (duh)
* Mail alert ringtones can be played for 99 secs, improvement from 15 sec
* Standby soft-key icons now vanish after small amount of time, can be made to appear again by pressing any key
* Web browsing speed is much faster compared to 903, despite same 3G transfer speed (ie browsing app is much faster)

HOw do you think of the size, is that too small?

phone is slightly smaller than 903. screen is alright. good size to me. still bigger than alot of phones out there. its really quite nice. nice and clear. no fuzzie wuzzies. the feel.. thats is what is different. for some reason, i find the 903SH easier to hold.. could be just me.

For those who have interests knowing of when 904sh can be unlocked, take a look at setool and cruiser's website. You will have much better ideas when it can be unlocked. They are two of the major players in the business.

904SH has no English T9 support; only Japanese input through Keitai Shoin 4 software. The site I read all those things from is a text-only forum and doesn't have photos posted on it unfortunately, but there's two videos I downloaded where I guy video recorded playing around with all the 904's menus, if I get the chance I'll upload them.

Ah well, I hadn't built up much hope for T9 being added

May as well ask this here - regarding text input on the 903 (and presumably 904) - how exactly do you guys enter a space? Is there really no more convenient way than pressing the right arrow twice at the end of a word? The lack of a dedicated space button (as far as I can see) also means that you can't go back earlier in the message and insert a space....

Am I missing something? Is there actually a button for spaces?

With the Japanese software, the manual tells you to use arrow keys to make spaces, but it also mentions that you can type spaces in English input mode by pressing the 1 key seven times. You also move to the next line by using the down arrow.

Hell... if I knew how to activate the Keitai Shoin software and T9 together I'd do it in a heartbeat... it's sitting there in the phone but Sharp has deactivated it because they couldn't find a way to make it run properly alongside the T9 software - this is what I've been told.

904 doesn't play MP3s at all. It's restricted to DRM ones or non-DRM AAC files only, like the JP 903.

well you could always use a pansonic card reader and use sd-audio. probably the easiest way. without any super hassle. but that doesn't solve mp3 ringtones

Well the phone has been great. Only reset one time (fingers crossed). Now do we know how to change the SMS time to the "right" time? Aside from that little issue its one of the best phone I have used for a long time (well my last phone is T610 so go figure lol)

Yeah I saw your 904 pics on your site, but you must know we all crave for more! Well for me I am going to check it out in person in Japan in May and hopefully it will move me enough to buy it lol (coz I am debating to myself if I wanna buy a new phone just because of the anti-shake feature for the camera).

there's no way to fix that. it has to do with rogers network and the phone.. they don't communicate very well with each other. if you went on robson and sent some sms.. u'll get the correct time. don't ask me why.

I finally got to play with a 904SH today, in Yodobashi Akiba. That 640x480 VGA screen is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen on a phone and, unlike the 902 (which I'm using now) and the 903, it actually fits in my pocket without creating a weird bulge.

well you can order it now and not have it delivered to you right away. just wait till the unlock is available then that's the time they send it to you. im also planning on doing this. still in the process of selling my 903. lol

HK firmware is different Bee - T9 works differently to Keitai Shoin.

It won't be an unlock code. You'll have to bring it or send it to an unlocker to have your phone unlocked. Hopefully, from reading the other posts, there will be no need to go through opening up hardware, and it will be a pure firmware process. Either way, you'll need someone who knows what they are doing to unlock it.

most likely. this phone at first will require someone to handle it for you.. but maybe over time you will be able to do it yourself... like some have with the 903sh and turned them into bricks cause of improper instruction reading and poor usage of software.

By the way guys maybe most 903 users don't know the shortcut in creating space between two words, here it is...press 1 then press call button i often use it with my jap f/w, it also works to input digits...i don't know with euro if it works...

japanese firmware has its good features and bad features. obviously.. its great if you lived in japan or actually read/write japanese. unfortunately i don't... not well at least. but their stuff is very innovative
