hey guys, i currently have a Nokia 6230, and i just bought a Brand new S66 from ebay. i havent gotten it yet, but i was wondering what i should do with it, meaning customizing it, as in flashing. ive never flashed a phone before, but what do you guys reccomend, should i flash it on the siemens web site to the latest upgrade, or is there a way to upgrade it to a S65. i have read all the posts but i just wanted to know some more additional info, thanks in advance, and i hope this turns out to be a great phone in comparison to the 6230

I'd suggest keeping it as an S66 and updating it with the S66 firmware 54 from Siemens' website. You can rid yourself of the Cingular branding by just installing either the original menu set or a custom menu set (Cingular really did a number on this phone). Check this thread for more info:

does anyone know how to see the time of the call duration when the phone call ends?

You can't do it with the Cingular firmware (it REALLY sucks, I'm telling you). I'm not sure you can do it with the updated version on Siemens website, but you can set it with any S65 firmware. Hope this helps.

thanks ant, sorry for all the newbie questions, but do you think i can upgrade my phone to a S65 through the Siemens website or will it not work because of the product name and variance? thanks again!!

PS: i got the phone today and i really like it, the menus are kind of hard to work with, but i love everything else!

I have a sx66...AKA Blue Angel...my suggestion is to go check out the SX66 (Blue Angel) Standardization Project ( http://home.comcast.net/~sx66-blueangel/ )

Hands down the BEST resource for sx66 newbies.

DamnageD: The S66 and SX66 are different models.

bmms8: No problem. You can't make it an S65 with Siemens official firmware. It does a firmware check before updating and will give an error if the firmware installed isn't S65, and vice versa. You have to use a Winswup version the first time around.

hey i got my dca-510 cable today, and ive been trying to update the firmware through the siemens web site. im having troubles with the connection itself. i dont think the computer recognizes the phone correctly. I start the update, and sometimes it doesnt connect, sometimes it does, then turns off the phone, then says the phone not connected. then sometimes it will just say "505 no answer from mobile, maybe not with new update -concept 4.039 V does anyone know what i should do to make this work, thanks. i have also installed the cd and everything, here is a link of where i bought my cable from http://cgi.ebay.com/DCA-510-Data-Ch...1QQcmdZViewItem

hey guys, i have so far downloaded mobile phone manager from siemens for the S65 since i cant find one for the S66, but when i open MPM it doesnt even show the phone being connected, but when i use the update tool to update the firmware, i get to the part where it shows 0% and it blinks please wait, but then it says phone not connected, and i cant get past that. anyone know what i should do?

There should be a version of MPM for the S66, but I have no clue where to look for it on the new site. Also, are you using the cable on a USB 2.0 port? I had trouble like yours until I tried it on a computer with a USB 2.0 port, then it worked perfectly every time.

also does anyone know how to download themes onto the phone from s65.info ? i wanted to maybe change the whole theme, but i dont know where to dl it, would it still be in the flexmenu folder? thanks in advance guys!

This process is fairly simple, if I understand your question correctly.

To see the call duration and time:

1.) Hold down the green call button until a call list appears
2.) Click "View"
3.) Cycle through calls using the joystick
