PEBL and Case.... WTF?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I purchased an OEM (CLPB06) case for my PEBL and have noticed an odd behavior. This case has a magnetic latch. When the phone is placed in the case with the hinge toward the case opening and the display visible through the window the outside display changes to the T-MOBILE text and the INSIDE screen lights up! In other words the PEBL acts as though it’s open!!! I’ve experimented and pulled the case, where the magnetic latch is located, away from the phone and it reverts to the normal (time) display. Question! Is this some very trick engineering by Motorola or is the magnetic latch doing something it was not intended to do to my PEBL?

So... Do you think I need to bring Motorola up to speed on magnets and electronics?

I have one of those aftermarket pouch that snaps close with some magnets and everytime I open the case to get my PEBL out to answer the call, it would get disconnected. Stop using it and the problem disappeared... go figure.

hold a refrigerator magner to the back left of a razr and it acts like its opening and closing(cingular sign shows up on external screen and backlight turns on on the inside even though the phone is closed)

It is most likely caused by the magnets of the case interfering with the magnets inside the phone that is used to determine if the phone is open or closed.

I have heard about this problem as well. But I thought Motorola fixed the problem. Since you bought an OEM case for the Pebl, you should let Motorola be aware of this problem and see what they say.
The leather cases that comes with the RAVR's are also magnetic and my relatives have no complaints about the phone acting up. So, I don't know if this is a problem with the Pebl's specifially or random phones.

When I had a V3, the magnetic front on the stock case would make my screen go white and hang. I stopped using the case and the phone has been problem free ever since.
Magnets + electronics = BAD

I've never liked the idea of having magnetic cases.

I emailed Motorola regarding the issue. This is the "official" reply.
