Are used phones purchased from ebay okay to xbm?

Posted by: mblphnlvr

If they are cingular branded, and you don't tell them it came from ebay.

And you have to make sure your IMEI is updated on your account.

I was thinking about buying a broken phone from ebay and sending it in. What would I have to do to make sure they cannot tell it was from ebay?

Posted by: icecubesyum

*cough* fraud...

Posted by: tendura

there's no way for them to know that it was bought on ebay.

That is not fraud, is it? I wasn't actually going to do that, but I have always wondered what would happen. I got my w600i in place of my third razr and I am in love.

No, it's not fraud, unless you think using Cingular's services legitmately consitutes "fraud"

There's no problem with doing that. Just use the online interface instead of calling the XBM number. As long as its a Cingular phone still under warranty, you'll be fine.

I guess you could call the number instead, but I've never tried it except a long time ago to replace my 6230... so I'm not sure what happens when you talk to someone and try to exchange a phone not on your account. But it works all right via the web.

So its not fraud to buy a broken phone off ebay and xbm it? Lol... And about your free w600, who cares?!?!?!

Posted by: mblphnlvr

You don't have to have the imei on your account, you just give them the number when you call or go online.

Also, broken phones are not covered by XBM, so it doesn't matter. Some people want to make sure that they can still use the warranty incase their phone does have a problem. There is nothing wrong with taking advantage of a service that is offered to you.

I don't think I asked you if you cared did you?

Posted by: icecubesyum

I know. I was just saying buying a phone you KNOW when you're buying it with the intention of xbm'ing it would be fraud.

Posted by: cingtony

Yeah that's what lockline is for , that way its an actual punishable offense. If lockline cared that is.

Do you know this from experience? Because they gave me a hard time when I called for like the 3rd time on my brother's 3120, and their system didn't have the newest IMEI on the account... even though it was the same phone, and it came from them.... I would still suggest having the IMEI on the account. It makes everything easier in the future.....

Rok3nIt, I am not going to comment on whether that is right or wrong, but I must say, it sounds like you have no morals.

If we are going to talk about how to trick insurance to get an extra phone we're going to have to close this thread. Let's hope we remain on topic.

Thanks!

When my razr's messed up that I bought from the store, all I did was read off the IMEI # and they sent me another replacement phone.
