Have you tried a reset?

Posted by: PuErtO_RiCan_1

Something like this happened to me.. I kept getting that message saying it wasn't reading my sim card. Then it had this weird Symbol with no X or Phone it was just the empty service bars. It turned out to be a firmware issue and T-Mobile replaced my sk ii for free! Yay.

Posted by: joesgay1643

yea i tried the master reset i tried everythin bought it from a freind and just use it for the internet but i dont have insurance or nothing like that but you think i should still call up? or is there another way to fix this any1 knO ?

Posted by: Mr_Nasty

that's what happened to mine but I was 3 count them 3 DAYS out of the warrantee I hate T-Mobile but yeah if any 1 wants parts let me know its on me

It sounds like your radio went. This has been happening since the OTA to 2.3 and radio version 0.4.1. By any chance was your radio version unknown?

Posted by: Mr_Nasty

every1 with the problem is being told is a well known hardware issue i dont think it was the ota was it?

Posted by: integlspwr

okay this sucks. my sidekick just crapped out also. =(

Posted by: The Mac Ace

wow. they unleashed a deadly firmware...

Posted by: Mr_Nasty

wow that sucks hey if they wont replace it just slap the piss out of it when i did that mine work for about 3 more days then it was gone for good

Posted by: mmnccn

mine juss went out too!!! if i up grade or down grade the software would it make a difference?

Posted by: mmnccn

press 1 @ 0 at the same time to soft reset
if not open your screen half-way and above the screw in the top-right corner there's a hole, put a paperclip in there or something and hold it for 5 sec while holdinger power button i believe and thats a hard reset

I actually had this happen to my sidekick too. started saying it didnt read sim and losing signal out of nowhere, but after a soft reset/turning off it would work, but one day it was just gone for good. Luckily i had insurance right? wrong! cuz my keypad was ripped, but i didnt want to pay 100$ to replace fone because of the keypad, but when it pooped out i still had to pay 100$ because t-mo blamed it on physical damage

I had a problem with my scroll wheel. I tried your method of slapping the piss out of it. It worked, hopefully until the SK3 comes out.

Posted by: Mr_Nasty

that's right slappin the piss out of it sometimes works YEAH!!!!!

Posted by: BossPlayaz

Report it Stolen and sell it to meeeeeeeeeeeee

Posted by: igotthatjuice20

mine just went outa week ago ... what is this firmware stuff? i am past my warranty, anyone think this is a way for tmobile to force people to buy new phones ... ... ...

Posted by: ncmacasl

Sim card not reading is a Warranty problem. If it is still under warranty, T-Mobile will replace it. If not, I hope you have insuirance. If so, file a claim, if not, you have a very pretty doorstop now!!!

Funny this same thing started happening to my sidekick II about the same time you posted this message. The danger support guy said the phone had lost its radio firmware and was basically dead. The phone sporadically will get a network connection and then just drop it. Most times I don't get a connection at all. Of course the warranty for the phone is way past over. I'm trying to hold out with a Sidekick 1 until the 3 is released. The timing is just terrible for this to happen.

yup i must say **** danger and this ******** i bought a mda but im about to send this thing back and wait for the sk3

Posted by: Mr_Nasty

lol. yea i was so about to buy it because it had edge but after consideration.. aim is the number one reason i use my sidekick..

Posted by: Yerre

try switchin the wireless on and off. i turned my wireless off and it said that the sim was not detected similar to what your problem is. it happened to me before and i didnt kno how to fix it so i used the old SK2 as parts...

Posted by: cdf12345

I wanted to add that this exact same thing happened to me about 10 days ago.
For 1 day I seemed to go from G with 4 bars to X every 3-4 seconds. Like every time the G was established it lost it 2 seconds later.

The next day I got nothing but SIM not found errors.

This seems kinda odd to be happening to multiple people at once.

I didnt get any OTA or install any new apps. So I dont know what could have caused the radio firmware to blow. I guess it was just a radio hardware failure.

I had this sidekick for a little over a year (nice huh)

Cust care was no help. Offering an upgrade back to the SK2 which makes no sense.

So I'm using my old CSK now and boy does it suck.

PLEASE SK3 get here ASAP I'm dying.

Posted by: joesgay1643

soo can sum1 fix this without destroying the fone?

Posted by: Darth Pooh

This is actually VERY common in SK's. My friend works at a SRV center and has to swap out SK2's very frequently for bad radios. Danger (not TMO) has actually sent my brother 2 new SK's for this reason. They say towers (never got a full explanation on that one!) and/or charging habits (this I can understand, surges and static electrictity) can short the radio out. Take it FWIW.

Can i Use other sidekick 2 parts to fix it

can i use other sidekick 2 parts to fix this problem

Posted by: ncmacasl

Hiptop forums shows instructions on how to do just that. A member developed a websie with pics showing how to dismantle one.

Posted by: tyterydez

could you possibly post a link to that site? thanks

Posted by: ncmacasl

Hiptop.com/forums then click on "search" button

Posted by: DizChiNoRicHie

it might be possible to use old parts to fix things, if you know what piece is which, and if you have patience.
