re: 8125 initial issues

I just started using this device having used Blackberries for the past 5 years (lastly an 8700c) and have a few questions based on the intial use of the 8125:

1. On Phone Contacts- how do I do a "pause" or "wait"? Can't see to find this anywhere in the forums. Most phone use a "p" for a timed pause and a "w" for a manual pause. A typical application for us is for logging into our own company voice mail. We'd have a phone number stored in contacts as: "310-555-1212W*1234" Where the "*" is the login key and the "1234" would be the password.

I noticed when I brought my SIM chip over into my 8125 from my RAZR, all of the phone numbers in Contacts that had this format suddenly lost the "wait" character and ended up looking like this: 310-555-12121234. I tried to create a new contact using the "w" and "p" keys and got an error "Can't store to SIM." (It's a 64K Orange SIM). I also tried this forcing it not to write to the SIM for the new contact but got same result.

2. Screen orientation: I did Start-Settings-System-Screen and selected "Landscape(left handed)". This works best for me. The screen then changes to Landscape. I then slid open the keyboard and after I closed it, the screen went back to Portrait! Now the only time the screen goes into Landscape is when I slide the keyboard open- when I close it, back to Portrait it goes and stays that way unless I manually set it back to Landscape. Going back into the Settings, in either case with the Keyboad open or closed, Screen Settings show either Landscape (fomer) or Portrait (latter) This is very irritating. I want it to say in Landscape all the time. Shouldn't it stay in Landscape like I set it?

3. "Running Programs"- This is analogous, I guess, to the Task Manager in "land line" Windows :-). So there's a list of "running programs", but some of them I used only for a moment. Do they stay loaded into W5 memory forever? Since I don't ever turn the device off, does that mean I have to manually "unload" some of them to prevent the Program Memory from being filled up? Any better way to manage that?

4. ESC key: there's no "Esc" key to get out of what you're doing other than the "x" in the upper left, is there?

5. Battery Meter: any way to get this to display (a meter- not a battery icon) on the screen. Any 3rd party software to do this?

6. How do you delete individual calls from the call log?

Thanks,

-Marc

1. put in a 'p' without the ticks

2. i believe this has been discussed several times, but I don't remember ever seeing a final solution.

3. basically yes they will continue to run, either go into running programs and 'stop' each from running. You can use "magic button" a neat little app that will make the X actually close the program completely.

4. not that I know of, but fellow hofoers wiser than I might know of a way

5. Resco today plugin shows a battery meter thats shows percentage left, etc. not sure if this is what you want exactly.

6. tap and hold on the call and select delete.

Thanks- I appreciate youre reply. On #1- I have used the "p" but I'm unclear- and it's undocumented- if this is a timed wait or not. I'm used to "p"= 2 sec timed wait and "w"=pause and wait for an additional "send" from the user before proceeding with what's next. This is the first device I've seen that actually doesn't document the pause and/or wait character. Do you happen to know if the "p" is timed or not and if there's something equivalent to the "w"?

on #5- do you happen to have the like for "Resco today"??

thanks,

-Marc

3&5: you can use SPB Pocket Plus Task manager.

4: go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/index.php and search for smartskey.

I was told to use the comma ( , ) for a 2 second pause. I have tested this and it works. I am using two commas in a row ( ,, ) for my corporate VM system.

I believe P is timed, I call my brothers office all the time and i have the pause so that it waits before dialing his extention (otherwise it doesn't work). Not sure about anything like the 'w'. I like resco a lot, sometimes it does this weird thing where when i'm in landscape the right hand part looks all blury and the only way to get rid of it is to go into today settings, remove resco from being shown, then add it back. Its only happened twice and that was a while back. Other than that, its great. And i'm assuming you did mean like and not link?

Yes-sorry- I mean "link" Do you happen to have the link?

On the "pause issue" via some other forums, I have learned and verified that "p" is a timed pause, but on the 8125 "w" is a manual wait. If you put a "w" into the string, then the phone will dial up to the "w" and then wait for you to hit Send before transmitting the rest of the DTMF that follows the "w". That's working well for me because some of our Voice Mail systems have variable timing.

Thanks- however on SPB Pocket Plus-some people are reporting issues with the backlight after that app is loaded.
