PPC-6700 Software Upgrade and Messaging

Okay, all..

I’ve just upgraded my software on the PPC-6700 to the Windows Mobile Version 5.0 Os 5.1.195 (Build 14847.2.0.0), or otherwise know as the new version from sprint.

I use the Sprint connection to dial up and sync with a pop account every 15 minutes. On the old version the system dialed-up checked for mail and then terminated the connection.

Now, on the upgraded version it dials up checks for mail and keeps the connection on, until it is manually disconnected in the (new) connection manager window.

I have looked for a fix and setting to hang up the dial-up connection after it checks for mail, but I have had no luck..

So, how is this done so the phone is not constantly connected to Sprint for Vision services?

Any help would be appreciated.

There is no benifit for it to disconnect. There is no additional power loss, infact if you have it set to check every 15 min it should use less power because it doesn't have to do the dial and handshake every 15min.

The EVDO only consumes extra power WHILE sending and receiving data.

Yeah, but if you are paying for airtime, this can be an issue!, Right?

I can't speak for sprint but my provider charges data use in MB transfered not in airtime, this is the case for all of the providers as I understand it.

While this may not seem like a big issue to some, I happen to travel the countryside as a truck driver so most of my airtime is spent in 1xRTT territory. This of course doesnt hinder my outgoing calls, but all my incoming calls are redirected to voicemail now! I have many important contacts that need to get ahold of me at critical times (time-sensitive deliveries). If anyone knows how to get this thing to disconnect after downloading my mail it would be appreciated for some help! One other thing... while connected to data, is there anyway to eliminate the error code 1010 "Data Call Failure" (which I get while tethered), and the error code 1013 "Data Roaming Prohibited" (which happens of course when I am roaming). These popups jingle my phone every 5-10 minutes and wont allow my phone to stay in standby... Thanks in advance!

Yeah, I have had clients tell me the same about my phone ringing forever when, and then getting sent to VM when my phone is commected to the data neetwork...

Nowthen, even though I understand that I may not be charded for the connections since there is no data transfer and regardless of others posts on this forum I am still getting an interuption in cell (voice) service...

ahhhh, the joys of owning and using a smart phone..... my nextel may have been better after all huh....

To correct the Error Code 1013-

1.Use the stylus to tap on the Phone Signal Strength icon--the one that looks like a funnel.
2.Choose the Settings options in the bottom left hand corner.
3.Choose the Services tab on the bottom of the page.
4.Choose the Roaming option within the selection box.
5.Choose the Get Settings button
6.Change the selected option to "Sprint Only"

You may need to adjust back to the Automatic setting while traveling, but this should get things back on track.

Error code 1010 comes up because ActiveSync is running on the phone trying to sync with the PC via the USB cable. You can go into running programs and stop activesync from running. But for whatever reason on my phone, it restarts that app every 10 minutes or so. I can't figure that out. But that is certainly the reason for the error while using the modem.

guess that would be a biatch. like on verizon u cant use both and have to click the wireless icon (left one) turn off wireless then hit the right icon (signal meter) and turn off flight mode. now the hack allows both at same time..listed in forum
