i don't think you're going to find anything at that price...

expansys.com is selling the mobile action usb data cable (i actually think it's the MA-8310P) for $27.29 usd plus shipping; comes with mobile action's amazing phone manager software

even rogers is selling the data cable for the allure (works fine with the gd87) for $51.75 cdn plus shipping; no software included

Either solution is going to be in the 30-40 dollar neighborhood. Advantage of IrDA is you can use it with other phones or devices. Downside, you can only transfer files one at a time.

okay so what is the difference between the allure cable rogers is selling..and the one expansys is selling??????

and also if i go with the allure cable..where do i get the software?

the one rogers is selling is
*(i think) parallel
*oem from panasonic
*for the allure, but will work no probs at all with the gd87

the one by expansys is
*usb
*made by mobile action -- not panasonic, but still pretty good; i use their ma620 usb irda dongle and LOVE it
*designed for the gd87/gd88

as for the software, i dunno if mobile action's will work with the oem datacable (it's available for free download
here )
as far as fast usb vs. slower parallel, i don't think it's gonna matter much considering the limited amounts of data you'll prolly be sending

lot_rebel, can you verify all of the above?

No, you must buy mobile actions datacable to use their software, if you use the stock datacable, get the software from Nicoboxs website gd87.nicobox.com (i think).

The stock datacable is a 9pin serial cable

Speed is much slower via datacable than IR, I suspect that it is due to the way that data is packeted. The comm port supports rates up to 800 and change kbits/sec however, the rates are odd above 115.2K. I have them written down at work but the nicobox software only supports 115.2K transfers. The mobile action is a usb to serial convertor but probably works much faster. Since I already have the allure cable I do not see a reason to change.

When I transfer a ringtone from GD87 to pc using MA 8310P where does it go to on my pc? Can't find it anywhere.

Posted by: The Rex

should be on your desktop

No it's not. I seem to be able to get picture from gd87 to pc but not a ringtone.
