Can a windows smartphone subscribe to a calendar?

Short of using Exchange software (and calendars), is there any calendar software out there that allows windows mobile (2003 or 5.0) to subscribe to a web calendar and sync periodically? Specifically I was thinking of the iCal standard so I could sync a read-only version of my google calendar OTA to my smartphone.

Help appreciated!

I have been using the new Personal Exchange EMAIL from www.mail2web.com and it has performed beyond expectations. Now, I have been using the one that is $1.99 a month, and I also have the Free one. But at $1.99 a month I have been so happy with that, I have been too lazy to try out the Free one and check out the limitation. Definitely worth a look. But I will say, with the occasional issues I still have with ActiveSynch and my Smartphones, to have a solid Web Based interface for Contacts, Calendars and Email is the way to go. As they say, since I have been using, Have Not Looked back!!

$1.99 A Month Personal Exchange Includes:
Feature-rich, browser-based interface
Personal calendar, manage contacts, tasks, reminders and personal journal
Advanced rules for filtering and
sorting email
Email Aggregator - automatically gather email from other accounts - as it arrives - into your Personal Exchange account
Synchronize with your mobile device
(ActiveSync included free)
BlackBerry Wireless Add-On (NOT FREE)
Advanced Anti-virus and SPAM filtering (included free)
Support for POP3 and IMAP4
1 GB storage, send attachments up to
100 MB

I have various subscription from ICal and they integrate with Outlook 2003. Why settle for less than Exchange ? Smartphones where made to be coupled with a data plan and push mail, there is an open source pluggin available here that allow you to add web calendars to outlook, combined with an Exchange account from great peoples like theses and you have the best mobile solution in your pocket

Thanks for the advice guys.

Basically, to outline my situation:

I have WM5.0 smartphone, an Intel Mac (running both Windows and OSX on dual boot, so I can at a push run Windows software if needed), a Gmail account and a GCal account. I love the GMail/GCal interface, and I can use it at work all the time.

Now, I can sync my smartphone (and other handsets) to iCal and Entourage on the Mac (I would prefer to keep using Mac iCal PIM software rather than activesync in Windows), and I can subscribe to my GCal calendar in iCal. I understand that this only allows 1 way editing of my calendar, but was wondering if any of the push systems that you have outlined would:

1. Allow me to receive my Gmail on my smartphone; and
2. subscribe at least (if not 2 way edit) to my Gcal calendar, so that it periodically syncs up.

Thanks for all the help.

I've tried acouple of these hosted exchange services, and wasn't satisfied. most recently I tried 1and1's hosted exchange, and found the service to be HORRIBLY slow. Once I added their account to my outlook, it could take 5-10 minutes to open as it contacted the server. Remove their account, outlook again opens in seconds as it should.

Anyone else experience this issue? And how has the web2mail worked performance wise?

for direct google calendar sync for smartphone, try oggsync. It's pretty good. I would like a program that can pull ical info as well as I am still looking around for a good all in one option (trying backpack now) and would like the phone to be as mobile as I am.

I am often switching between Linux, Mac, and PC so going with an Exchange only solution doesn't work for me, but going with a solution that can sync OTA to an ical web calendar would be a great find!
