T809 Custom Message Tones

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: funkyu00

I made my own custom message alert for the T809, but when I tried to change it, the T809 never gave me a "custom" option. Anyone know another way around this?

btw, my tone is Ali G saying, "booyakasha".

Posted by: funkyu00

PS. I do know that you can do it for ringtones, by changing the filename to .3gp and everything. I did that, but the problem was that it never gave me an option to change the message tone.

Posted by: brok3ball3r

you cannot change the message tone as of yet dont know if flashing the phone will work either

Posted by: Jxi8s2k

i've looked everywhere...searched every damn forum. can someone please help me figure out how to make custom message tones? i've read somewhere about flashing your phone but i have no clue how to do it, and the risks kinda scare me. i've also read something about updating the firmware, but i can't find any firmwares for my phone. can you guys help me out?

Posted by: Jxi8s2k

please don't tell me that it is impossible and that samsung doesn't allow it. i KNOW that it is possible becuase i met someone that had the t809 and had a custom message tone on his phone that said "got mail mother ****a"

are you absolutely sure it was a t809..and it was a text being sent to that person??? because i have looked everywhere.. and i've only gotten to dead ends.. i have that same sound.. i used to use that sound for my moto v600.. and its "mail mutha-effer"

Posted by: Jxi8s2k

yes it was the t809. he was my co-worker and i was gonna buy the phone off him but he was tryin to hustle me. the stupid default message tones are so wack.

Posted by: DrKnute

Maybe he had his T809 flashed to D820? (or it was a D820)

I'm not sure if the D820 can have custom message tones though.

Posted by: badteddy

so very strange... i heard u cant do it with the d820 either. tryin to hustle you?? sheesh

Posted by: badteddy

bump... no advice? no inputs? no opinions???

im also watching this thread...

is there any way to a custom tone as a message alert, i really wanted to put "mail muthaf*****" from eurotrip.

Posted by: hatr3d

I don't think anyone has found a way to do it yet?

Perhaps someone who has an unlocked version may be able to comment.

Posted by: sno

i'm curious as to this as well. i have a good tone of a beer pouring that i'd like to use.

Posted by: Mistaj0hnny

Plus all the stock ringtones suck! I'm use to a beep or click when I get a message with my old SE, but the t809 has some fruity ring ring toot toot for message tones.

Posted by: badteddy

bump.. any news?

Posted by: sno

no one's figured out how to hack this yet? come on geeks! ;]

Posted by: Nwahs

Daaaaaaaaymit!
Someone should figure out how to get into the list of the Message tones, and then be able to add your own towns to that list. Something. Someone smarter then me. Common people!

it couldnt have been a t809 or d820 it is impossible to change those tones.period.

where there's a will there's a way.

Posted by: Nwahs

As long as there is a smart person behind that will, we're good. I wish I knew something about samung phones....i had a motorola phone and that was so easy to mod....this phones much harder.

Posted by: ijcy

the only way that it can be done in my opinion is to flash with new firmware that will have that option. any techies here to back me up? or correct me?

If the firmware can be downloaded and then browsed to find the default tone files and replace them, and later flashed to the phone, this would be the only way to change/use your own. This was how it was done with the E715/E710 and several other phones a few years ago.

so i was right, good to know. thanks for the confirmation.

can you have your own alert song or whatever instead of the ones they give you?

Posted by: alexc401

i meant for text messages.

Posted by: normy1024

from what i've read...nope

You are so right. I just got my first Samsung. I've always preferred Nokias but the new slim X820 was just too sexy to resist - but I am EXTREMELY disappointed in the weak message tones. I rely on being able to react to message alerts sent by monitoring systems and the - as you say - frouty toot toot just don't cut it.

I hope this will be fixed somehow.

u dont need to change them to 3gp anymore just follow these simple instructions:
ok go to ringtones, click select to go to the different ones u have on a list. then choose the mp3 ringtone of your choice, even if its gray and it looks like u can not choose it just press the silver midlle button while u r on the mp3 u want. then press back, on the bottom left you'll see save click the left soft button and go back to standby screen. call your phone and you'll be surprised!
good luck, and enjoy!

Until a few moments ago I had a firmware loaded on my T809 (D820 version) that had different message alert tones than the original. I was quite surprised when I got a message and my normal tone didn't play. Well, not that surprised because my Siemens used to just change message and ring tones whenever it felt like it (or at least I couldn't figure out when it decided to do it).

Hi, I am just wondering if you can use your mp3 ringtones for text messages on the t809?

Posted by: Shroud

no way to do this at all, not possible unless you alter the firmware and then flash the phone with the new edited firmware that includes the new tone for messages.

If you know some other guy that has figured it out, your co-worker or whatever, then try asking him how he did it.

Posted by: madsere

Do you know of any modified firmware for the SGH-X820 ?

Posted by: dannyb0i16

i have a d820 and i can confirm it is impossible, at least without any mods. even on the unbranded d820 version you can only choose from the ridicolous default tones. there isnt even a decent one to use from the line up !

Posted by: chevoholic

u got that right, its hard picking from that list of ten, which is the least annoying! lol I sure hope this can get done with a new flash or firmware!

Posted by: sliderninja13

well if someone could help me find a flash editing software or create one, then I would be more than happy to create this new firmware and share it

There is a mod in the thread, that allows you to change the ring tones for messages.....at least thats what it says it does. Read the bottom post on the 1st page.

Posted by: Silver Bullet

it doesnt say that at all, does it?

it says: "it adds:

-one button speaker phone
-Lets you access menu 9-4-2 (Keypad tone) even when you're using the
sticky pad or brush dialling displays. (so you can finally make them silent"

Just kidding.

Look at the update in the original post...I updated it but have not tested it. People says the mod works, but I haven't gotten any reports on weather the SMS tone can change. What do ya have to lose?
