V3 Caller ID is just ridiculous!!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Is it just me but why the hell doesnt the V3 display the name of the the person calling if you have there number in your phone book? Its like thee most basic feature in a phone, so basic that it isnt even considered as a feature. Is like a phone that can make calls but cant recieve any lol. I have never seen a phone that didnt display the name attached to the number in your phone book, I mean do you know how incredibly inconvenient it is when someones calling and you only see the number and no name? Its like when a peron is calling with their ID blocked cuz I only know like 3 numbers in my phone that I know, so although it displays the number I sure as hell dont have a clue who it is. And trust me in my life I need to know who is calling b4 I answer cuz there are quite a few perosn I dont always wanna talk to, or I need to answer the phone a bit differently when a certain person is calling.
Isnt there like a flash of flex(preferebly a flash) that enables this feature cuz am just about fed up cuz I've never felt quite as lost.
Help me please!!!

Sorry to hear about your problem, but the V3 caller ID does diplay the name if the # is in the address book. Do a small experiment. Have someone call you and end the call. Go to "received calls" and store that # on the phone's address book, not the SIM. Ask that person to call you back from the same # and see what happens. BTW, is your phone branded?

Hope this helps...JL

It most be Motos crappy UI at work again. But seriously, I had a Moto V551 (worst phone ever) and my sister currently has a RAZR and I had no probs with Caller ID. I had my numbers stored on the phone if that helps.

number and name will display on 2 conditions, A) the phone company sends both to your phone if available or B) if a number in your phone book matchs an incoming caller and a1) your using a proper flex for your carrier/region a2) you dont have duplicate entries in your phone somewhere and a3) you saved the number in the correct syntax. it should work. anything else, check to see if you saved the number more than once under a different name, or perhaps your phone memory is full, or currupted or u saved it on phone memory, transfer it to sim phonebook.

I've noticed on one particular phone that if a number is stored in the 10 digit format, it works. My other phones dont differentiate. It doesnt bother me enough on that particular phone to edit it, I just put a 1 in front of the numbers that I entered as opposed to saving from the recent calls list.

Are your numbers stored in your phone book with the area code. I have had a few people come in and say my caller/picture ID is not working. I put in the area code in front of the number and like magic the caller/picture ID works. Maybe thats all you need to do.

you might want to check this seem on your phone. 0032-0001
offset 3E - bit 4: for purposes of linking name in phonebook with caller ID number, xxx-xxxx = xxx-xxx-xxxx = 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx = +1-xxx-xxx-xxxx (0 on, 1 off)

Well I was trying to correct this problem b4 I wrote this thread, I copied all of my contacts from my SIM to mmy phonebook and it still didnt show the name when the person was calling, even in the recieved list it only shows the number and not the name of the matching contact, usually all my previouse phones just matched the number of the caller with the appropriate contact in my SIM, I never had to copy the entries to my phonebook.
BTW, my phone aint Branded, Its custom to the bone lol.
I was wonder about what darkninja said about the area codes but could this dumb *** phone be that stupid to need the area code too? Even my Seimens A50 or Moto C330 and such crappy phones never gave this problem.
Well **** I just tried the area code thing and believe it or not, it bloody worked. This is officially theeeeee WORSTE phone ever where recieving calls are concerned.
I called the phone with my other phone and it only showed the number but then I went into recieved calls amd saved the number exactly as it was and then called it again and it showed the name that I saved it under.
I swear V3 is the worste!!!
AM OUT!!!
BTW, HELP lol.

Is the area code attached to the number in the "received calls" list? If it is, how do you expect the phone to match the inbound call to a name in your phone book without the area code? I don't know where you live, but a 10 digit # (area code+phone #) is required in most major cities, even if it is a # within the same area code.

Regards...JL

well guy, yes the area code was attached to the number but all my previous phones managed to differentiate between each number cuz they were smart enough to know that if the phone number consists of 10 digits the it should automatically drop the first three as they are the area code, but no this V3 **** cant do that and yet its so popular and exspensive, its by far the most advanced and exspensive phone I have ever owned and yet all those other piece of ***** were more impressive.
As for the SEEM editing, I am not presently capapable of this as I am not SEEM editing literate. I havent found one guid that has even given me a clue on how to SEEM edit not to mention check a SEEM if it is correct. I just use programs that can execute the tasksI require. If any of yaall would care to attemp to teach me, I welcome your assistance.

I don't know how this isn't working for you. I save contacts by entering the area code + number to the phone, not the sim, and every single person that calls me shows up in the caller id. The only names that do not show up are numbers that are not entered into my address book.

I have never seem edited anything in the phone. It is a Cingular branded/software phone on Cingular.

Original poster, you have not posted your information. What is your location, provider, and is your phone locked/unlocked/unbranded?

The "problem" has been resolved. None of the phone numbers in his phonebook have the area code.

Re-read his last post. They all have the area code, but they are still not showing up correctly. He is blaming the phone.

hey hey hey, I said I dont like the fact that I have to save that damn number with the area code for the phone to recognize it cuz none of my previous phones never had to. So if I want the phone to show me the names i'll have to edit all the numbers and add the area code to it one by one :-(, unless someone knows a shorter way?

crosses:
Use Mobile Phone Tools (MPT). Download your phonebook to your PC, add the area codes and resync your phonebooks.

Good luck....JL

Is itpossible to syncronize your V3 with your PC? I see the sync feature but I dont know how to use it or what it does.
But about the tool thing i'll try it cuz man my phone book is quite hefty so that would be good. I have a programme called P2KTool, I think it can also do it cuz I dont have the MPT now, i'll have to download it.
Thanks though for yaall help.
AM OUT!!!
