Hey everyone..

Just letting everyone know how to convert .wav files for use as ringers for your T720(vzw) using GAGiN.

Go here:
http://smaf-yamaha.com/tools/license.php3?ocid=wscma2s

Downoad WSCMA2S.
Install.
Run

Select your wav file.. (we'll use HomerSimpson.wav)

Convert Wav file to 4khz or 8khz, 16Bit, Mono with a Wav editing program.

(we'll use HomerSimpson.wav)
Drag and Drop Wav file onto WSCMA2S.

(You'll have HomerSimpson.mmf in the same dir)

Rename HomerSimpson.mmf to <Name Of File To Put On Phone>.mid (like you would uploading midi files)...

Upload to phone

Play!

Have fun!!

PLEASE post any links to good Wav File sites or any Freeware WAV converters..

any reason why from "voice ringers" collected around here and from different yahoo! groups that when i download them from the net to my computer and press PLAY in windows media player, i hear nothing!! my computer acts as if there's no file there?? (press play and the slide bar doesnt move but the file says to have some content to it, such as 3.86kb or whatever)...any ideas or help would be appreciated guys!! do i need to download anything, any patches or programs to LISTEN to a voice ringer someone off the net is distributing?? peace...

They are most likely saved as "SMAF" files (Synthetic music Mobile Application Format). It is a product developed by Yamaha. SMAF files are saved as ".mmf" files, but if you change the extension to ".mid", they will play on phones.

To hear the files:
1) download the free player at: http://smaf-yamaha.com/what/mr_dl.html
2) change the extension on your files back to ".mmf",
3) run the player program, and
4)drag and drop the voice ringer onto the "player".

For more information, check out their website: http://smaf-yamaha.com/

Good Luck!

nah...arghhh!! they are mid files i found off this yahoo group "T720 Ringtones" all zipped up in a large file. I checked each one of them and all end in .mid and they all don't play on Windows Media Player or anything...like i said before i press play and that i see pause and stop button (what you see if something is actually playing) but the slidebar doesnt move at all...weird, huh?? peace...

i already downloaded the yamaha smaf converter so i ruled out that option from the get go...thanks for your help though!

Herbrock go to this address. This is a SMAF player called PSMPlayer. No help file though since it is a japanese program, but you wont need it most likely. You need join the Yahoo group if you havent already to access this file. Once you get it, rename your .mid to .smaf and it should play. Then when you find one you like and want to load it back on the phone, remember to rename the extention back to .mid format.

Good Luck.

I am not talking about the "smaf converter", but the smaf PLAYER. Just because they have .mid as an extension doesn't mean they are mid files! Someone else may have already changed the extension to .mid

does this only work for the t720c, and not either the t720g/i? I've gone thru the process and I dont hear squat on my t720i so i'm assuming that it is the t720c only. sigh, voice ringers would be so nice.

Yes it only works on the CDMA version. The following is posted from another thread:

"CDMA phones have Qualcomm chipsets. One of the features of this is CMX and Purevoice. Any phone where this is turned out (all of the Sprint Vision phones, many of the Verizon phones) can support Audio ringtones.

Unfortunately in the GSM world such a standard doesn't exist. What you find are a few phones that support .wav ringtones (S105, Nokia 3650, and a handful of others).

Not much you can do on a GSM version of the T720 (or i), the feature simply doesn't exist. "

GAGIN was released on January 19th

Here's the link to the semi-official thread:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...&threadid=89306

These voice ringers, known as "Dead Ringers" are mentioned in a number of threads spead across this forum. Just do a search for "Dead Ringer" and you should be able to pull up all the information you need on the subject.

I have taken a wav file and converted it to 8khz, 16Bit, Mono with a Wav editing program and then used the WSCMA2S to convert it to .mmf. I renamed it to .mid. So now I have a mid file ready to put on my phone.

My question is, can I send it to my phone just like other midi files (through vzwpix.com or email) or is this only supported using the data cable. I have tried sending it trough vzwpix.com and I receive a pix message, but it says pix message failed to play.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've been having a LOT of trouble with this. Do I have to convert the final product (midi) to a type 0 midi from type 1? If anybody can contact me on aim to help me out i'd really appreaciate it...the screen name is nmetsy31

The a530 is not listed on Yamaha's list of SMAF compatible hand setsHERE so its probably not supported.

NO. If you manage to actually CONVERT a .MMF file to a General MIDI file (type 0 or type 1), you will LOOSE THE "VOICE" or sampled sound.

When we talk about changing the .MMF to .MID, we are only talking about RENAMING the file, changing the file extension. We are not saying to CONVERT the file to midi. Keep in mind by default, the setting under Windows Folder Options of "Hide extensions for known file types" is turned ON!! To rename these properly, you must turn this off... one of many ways to get there is... Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View Tab... Or from any non-IE window... Tools (pull down) -> Folder Options -> View tab.

Once you RENAME the file to end in .MID (i.e. change the extension), Windows Media Player will NOT be able to play it.
