Tried to put ringtones on phone...now no sound at all!

I just got a new VX9800 and downloaded the newest version of BitPim 0.8.12. I was putting ringtones on my phone via the helpful Newbie instructions for BitPim http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=806831. I was rather impressed with myself that everything was working fine...until I tried to play one of the transferred ringtones on my phone. Now my phone won't play any kind of sound at all. Yes, I checked the volume key. Rebooted the phone several times. I have a 1G memory card so that's not it. Then the transferred ringtone disappeared, which I read is common. Then I went into BitPim to try to Get Data From Phone button again and now I get the error: The phone is not responding while transitioning mode from none to brew. See the help for troubleshooting tips [and by the way there are no tips--you're screwed lady!] Rebooted computer, removed and readded bluetooth devices, rebooted phone, banged head on wall, repeat. Any suggestions? Thanks!

My husband just told me the same thing happened to him--no sound!. He went into Settings & Tools, 3 Sounds, 7 Power On/Off Sound and changed it to on. Then powered off and back on and now sounds work. Go figure. I think the other thing is a port issue. I'll mess with it more tomorrow.
