Don't get too excited though. It looks like an update to the previous version. If you get anything out of this post, check out this site. In more than a few ways, their content is superior to HoFo content...

How can I get the imate rom?

It looks like if you do not have a 3G SIM card, then it isn't worth installing this update. Unless updating the radio will improve reception or sound quality, I'd rather wait for the update with AKU 2.

Go to ftp://ftp.clubimate.com/ and look for i-mate_SP5m_WWE_2.6.331.2.exe

You'll need to app unlock your phone as well as change the CID install it...warranty voiding galore but most everyone thats done it has noticed inprovements.

What does it do for those of us with 3G SIMs?

I'm not having any issues as of yet, and notice that reception is on par with my 6230, so I'm not complaining.

If it ain't broke then don't fix it. There were some reports that the phone was killing some 3G SIM cards after a few days of use, so I guess this is what the updated radio addresses and why the update hasn't been publicized.

I could swear that the phone is much more responsive with the new firmware. Apps seem to launch much faster.

Now let's see if this fixed the data connection wedged issue.

If your not having problems with it then you probably have the new firmware anyways.

I've got the same operator version (1.8.42.14), but my radio version is 4.0.13.20_01.09.01, the update supposedly keeps the same operator version number but updates the radio version to 4.0.13.21_01.16.01

Irregardless...I'm not having issues so far and I'm using this device in combination with a 3G SIM. This isn't an "issue" per se, but I've noticed that with my combo of SIM and ROM, every once in a great while, if you happen to catch it, instead of saying 'Cingular' I'll see it flash 'Home Network' for just for split second. It's rare, and I think that's the only strangeness I've noticed on this phone. It's probably when it's re-registering with the tower, but it was noticeable.

I've never had call issues however...no dropped calls, etc. and reception has thus far been great. Only a slight bit of background hiss while in a call. If I start seeing some reports of this update making that any better,I think I'll update.
