I was looking for a howto for dialing via DUN over bluetooth with the cingular network. Since I didn't find one, and finally got it working here's how you can get it working too.

Equipment and setup:
HP dv1000 series laptop w/bluetooth software and XP SP2
Sony Erricson w600
Cingular network with an unlimited medianet plan (where I was testing I had the "E" by the signal strength indicator so I was in an EDGE area).

- Make sure the bluetooth is on for the phone.
- Opened my bluetooth places on the computer, browsed for devices in the area. Found the phone, and paired the device.
- Under the phone, open the Dial-up Networking item under the device, and it created a new Dialup item with the phone as the modem (it auto-installed and configured the modem for me)
User Name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Pass: CINGULAR1
Number to dial: *99#
(not sure if the pass is case sensitive, but I used upper case)
- Connect

Once all done, speed tests report connection at 69kbps down, and 8kbps up. The down number is probably as fast as the bluetooth can handle. Haven't tested with the USB cable, could probably get better data rates...but who wants to mess with a cable

FYI: I'm in the Atlanta, GA area.

Good luck to everyone else trying to do the same!

FYI...Cingular has a program, Communication Manager, available as a free dowwnload on their site. Makes this type of a connection a breeze with a pc card or 3g phone.
