Data Cable Question

I bought an OEM data cable for my V3 thinking i would be able to charge my phone via USB but it doesnt. Do i need to buy the Moto Phone Tools in order for this to work? Any help/tips would be greatly appeciated, thanks!

The cable should charge your phone unless the battery is completely dead.

When i connect the cable to my laptop, it only asks to install software for new hardware...

once install the drivers, for the phone, it will auto charge the phone, when turned on and plugged in.

You need the right drivers, do a google search for "Win2K/WinXP Motorola DriverPack, Version 2.9"
