how do you enable modem?

ok guys trying again. i have a v557. got the latest mpt update. i can load contacts and calenders to comp., but cannot transfer photos or sound. icon at bottom says modem mgmnt disabled. so how do i enable it? my wife has the same phone it worked on hers. then i did something and now it won't work on it anymore either... is it something thru comports or is it a driver setting... like i said it worked at one time and then i did something (but don't know what) please help
