new, unlocked phone won't accept sim cards!

i had bought two other phones from the same eBay seller and the third one that i bought, a Moto SLVR, won't accept sim cards.

the eBay item description says it is unlocked but i've tested it with two T-Mo sim cards and both times, i get the "Insert Sim" error message.

should i ask for a refund/replacement or should i try to unlock this phone?

thanks, guys...

if it was locked, it would ask you to enter the subsidy code, not to insert sim. Seems like it can't read your sim for some reason.

thanks for the clarification.

i trust the seller because the last two phones that i bought from him, they were really as advertised (i.e., brand new, unlocked, etc.) so i really am surprised i'm having problems with this one.

i'm waiting for the seller's response but in the meantime, is there anything i can do to test it/make it work?

Do you have another sim card to use? If so try it....

It might be the sim card problem because ive tried on a few phones with my blue/white sim card but sometimes a dark blue att sim wont work it will say "insert sim"

Definitely sounds like there's a problem with the sim card itself. If you've had that sim card for along time, the new unlocked phone may not be able to read it. So, like the last 2 posters said, try another sim card if you have one. If not buy another sim card and see if that resolves the problem.

Just ask for an exchange.

thanks, guys!

you guys are probably right. i've tried two different simcards but it still says "Insert Sim." HOWEVER, those two sim cards are probably 2 or 3 years old. i'm hoping that the new one that i'll buy will solve my problem.

btw, i saw on eBay once about those 64k simcards (or something like that). do you guys think those type of simcards are the ones that i should buy?

thanks again!

I dont think t-mobile has 64K sims but just call t-mobile or visit a store and tell them your problem and they may just give you a new sim card without charge
