Thought about that phone. I first had it when it first came out. I returned it becuase of random software resets and I had no 3rd party applications everytime I got a incoming call it would reset. Has it gotton better? I loved it except the bad reboots made me miss calls, plus I paid full retail for it. Have you had any major issues with it?

As far as the 8125 being a one handed device....well its not, u just have to get use to it and using hte stylus a lot. I am happy with mine though, i just wish it was thinner and the locking mechanism for the slide out keyboard was a little tougher. I have wondered whether or not to get a treo though, but for me wifi is a must. I think it all comes down to what features are most important for you. If you campus has wifi then i'd get an 8125, if not, maybe a treo is your best choice.

A lot of people swear by Chatter, which I also like, but not as much. To make the long story short, there are plenty of excellent email apps. for the Treo. It's just a matter of preference. They all work well.

As for easy typing. Again, I have to go back to the full QWERTY keyboard, which can be easily used with ONE HAND. I am really big on that. When you sit down and write a longer email, typing on the Treo is a pleasure and a breeze. I find the keyboard layout very good and they keys are well placed.

Finally, I do have a few PDA/cellphones I can compare it to. For example, the HP iPAQ hw6515. It's a great phone, but it's a bit too big for me and I find the Treo to be easier to use. I found that you just have to click through too many layers to get to where you want to go on the iPAQ. For example, if I need to write a quick note, I just click on "Notes" and type away. It's a very well organized UI. And yes, you guessed it, you can type quick notes in the car with one hand as well. I've used all of these functions a lot and the Treo fits me perfectly. On a more superficial note, it's also a very attractive phone in my opinion.

I have used both the Treo and BB 8700, and IMO the BB is much better. There is nothing better than BB for e-mail, browsing is very good, and typing on it is a breeze once you get used to it. I would also consider the 8125 as well, its feature-rich.

As for the BES server issue, I think that RIM is going to let Treo users access their BES email system. And if you don't need it, then the necessity to get a Blackberry doesn't apply anyway.

One more thing, NO Blackberry has a camera. So if you want your PDA to take pictures, you can't get a BB because of that alone. The Treo is just one fun device that performs amazing tasks.

Also, the BB offers a superior (IMO) typing experience. I have used the Treo for a year and still find the keyboard cumbersome to use whereas the BB was easier for me to use.
