I am a Nextel subscriber with unlimited data. My phone is an i870. The internal browser works fine.

I have tried many different Opera Mini versions, settings, read many posts and still no joy... When I load Opera Mini, it runs and when I attempt the test I always get the same error:

"You do not have a working network connection. Please visit http://help.opera.com/mini/ with your desktop browserfor instructions.(error 3.0.10.80/)."

It also says in the instructions that: "To start using Opera Mini your phone needs a GPRS/3G profile" How do I know if I have a GPRS/3G profile? If not, how do I get/create one?

I have loaded all of the different versions of Opera Mini using the USB cable and WebJal. When I try to download Opera Mini directly to the phone from mini.opera .com I get the "406: Not Acceptable" error. If I click details in that window it says "1015: Invalid content type"

Can anyone help, Opera Mini looks awesome compared to the lame brower on the i870.

Thanks,
Stan

If it's anything like the BellMobility situation with my Opera you need to set a proxy. You Internal Proxy might be blocking Opera from running. I don't know your phone set-up or carrier but my best guess is you need a proxy.

I don't see anywhere where you would put a proxy.

Is there anyone running Opera on an i870 that can tell me what version they are running, any steps they took to get it to work?

Also does anyone know what that GPRS/3G profile is?

Thanks

Some carriers block port 80 on cell phones because wap uses other ports. port 80 to a cell phone is normally not common until recently. Devices like PocketPCs and Treo's were the only ones that would display that information correctly.

So to conserve bandwidth, most providers block 80 and allow wap access on 4801. Making a proxy server to transfer data from port 80 to the allowed port would (could) work.

Or you could switch to cingular (nextel blows anyway... I have an I870 for work).

My i870 is my work phone too... as a matter of fact, one of my coworkers got his i870 at the same time I got mine and we tried putting Opera on his and it didn't work, was getting the same errors as me. A few weeks later he tried it on a whim and it works. We compared all settings, firmware, etc. No difference. We are on the same Nextel plan as well... Go figure.

This sounds similar to an issue with the V557, where Opera Mini (or any other midlet that accesses the internet) will not work once the Ticker/Screen 3 kicks in. The only solution there is to disable the ticker completely. It was also possible to run Opera Mini right after powerup, right until the ticker did its update, thus making folks think it was just an intermittent problem.

Perhaps there's something else running on these i870's in the background? That or, as was mentioned before, port 80 is blocked.

I did notice that the i870 (along with the rest of the i Motos) is conspicuously absent from Opera's supported phones list...
