Been checking both Sharp's 703SHf and 703SH lately and came up with a question list for the people who knows, and/or the people who own one of them (or both :-).

1. SD-AUDIO: can you put quality mp3 on it like 192kbps? On the SD card, not phone that is.

2. ENGLISH T9 does the english T9 works on this one?

3. RE-PROV PROBLEM is there a firmware update to resolve this?

thanks!

the reason why sharp phone users have repro problem is that the i think repro can only be used for vodafone subscribers, when my 903 was unlocked my vodafone web,mms setting was gone and there is no vodafone japan settings available on the net neither the vodafone here in japan does'nt know there own settings so i try the repro and it automatically retrieve all the settings and save it to my phone...

1 - I haven't tried the mp3's yet, only AAC while I wait for my reader, sorry.
2 - T9 will not work if you are using the Japanese firmware and I believe that's the only option with the 703SHf.
3 - The Japanese firmware does have this problem and again, for thr 703SHf, that's your only option due to it only being released in Japan.

for mp3, it only add's a tag on the existing mp3, to make it a sd audio, so it will still be 192 if your original mp3 is 192, for aac, sd jukebox will convert it to max of 128

no t9 that's wut stopped me from buying this phone =(

Posted by: in2sky

definitely not buying this phone if T9 is a problem... thanks guys!!!

Posted by: in2sky

so it's the 703SH that has T9 using english firmware, is that correct?

about mp3: they can be stored in the phone but only using a special card reader? what is this reader btw?

thank u

Posted by: Timsta

yes.. if you use 703SH euro firmware, you will have t9.

mp3s can be stored as mp3s in euro firmware.. in japanese firmware, you will need panasonic card reader + panasonic sd jukebox in order to store the mp3s.

i wanna know let say i can get someone to put an 703 euro fw on to shf to get t9....will euro fw beable to view/text jap or chinese?

sigh, want T9 with ENG and beable to sms with chinese haha

i think 903 is my only choice...but cant afford it at the moment ><

Posted by: Timsta

you would be able to read and write jap text on the 703shf with euro.. but not chinese.

Posted by: jdmsai

hi can someone clear this up for me...tia

1) so for 703sh, I can load mp3s directly into the phone if it's running on euro fw?? what if it's jap firmware? then I need to use panasonic card reader again like 703shf?? I am buying a 703sh and it has english and chinese on it.. so on this fw, can i load mp3s into it without special card reader?

2) for both 703sh and 703shf, can I use mp3 ringtones? or just mmf?

Posted by: in2sky

yes, I'm definitely curious about the 703SH vesion. Understood that the 703SHF is a nightmare, but would like to know if the 703SH with euro flash is ok. Especially about putting quality mp3 in the phone without the use of that special card reader. Also english T9 is important. Now the problem is also that one has to ask his seller which flash method he's used.

Posted by: Timsta

1) yes.. to the mp3s running on euro firmware. if jap firmware. u need the panasonic card reader plus sd juke box. same goes with the 703SHF. and yes.. if you buy a 703SH with hk firmware, you will be able to play mp3s

2) you can only use mp3 ringtones if you have euro firmware. you will be using mmf for any other ones. this goes for all the sharps

Posted by: jdmsai

^thank you Timsta for answering my questions

then I think I'll get 703sh HK fw.. sounds like a much better experience than what I hear about 703shf >.<

Posted by: Timsta

hehe.. ppl only like the 703SHF for the colours... and a slightly better screen. the 703SH is still a very very good choice

Posted by: in2sky

Today I checked a little bit about Sharp's 703 series.
So, apparently the SHf is a nightmare for english T9 fans,
because there is no english firmware flash. Is that correct Timsta?

So, about T9, the only way to get it is to get the phone flashed
with EURO f/w, both on 703SH and 703SHF? Let me know thanks.

About MP3: Can I simply transfer good quality mp3 from the computer
to the miniSD card? Or do I have to use some special card reader or software?
Let me know if there's a difference between the SH and SHf regarding this matter.

THANKS!!

Posted by: Timsta

yes thats correct. we've been talkin about that for awhile. and yes tot your 2nd question.

and about mp3.. u can transfer 192kbps or less mp3s to your phoen from computer to work with euro firmwar to the mini sd using a regular card reader is fine.

Now the problem is to find a shop or ebayer who is selling a 703SH with euro firmware. I contacted Plemix which had a good deal on this one (229$ 703SH). But the firmware is chinese/english. And they don't EURO flash.
Anyone knows where I could find a deal for a brandnew black 703SH with euro f/w?
thank you!

Posted by: kms-lai

check my sig for a reliable seller and good after-service.

Posted by: in2sky

yeah thanks. the only problem is the price that's too high compared to Plemix's 229$ deal.

Posted by: kms-lai

it's in canadian dollar.

Posted by: dingd0ng

kms is correct, Plemix is in US dollars!!! Also make sure you get it from someone that will give you great after-service. Maybe he will be like evilgabbie and dance for you for a couple of pennies as well!!!

Posted by: kms-lai

timmi will give you a great after-service, he probably dance for you.

Posted by: in2sky

guys, is there an error in your msg or something?
Plemix is US dollars right?
What about Timsta? US or CANADIAN?
Of course, if I can choose from the two sites for the same price I'll
definitely from Timsta because he really knows how to flash a phone plus
has a real interest in mobile phones. I am not so sure about Plemix, it seems like
it's just a business. Plus they don't flash European f/w and stuff...

by the way umobile is down today or what?

Posted by: Timsta

umobile is up!!! and its all canadian dollars on my website.. and... i don't dance... unless. it involves many many many MANY girls.

Posted by: in2sky

Tim, it's weird... I do reload reload and more reload and Umobile is not up, at least from here (Switzerland).
As soon as it's up I'm gonna have to check your Sharp area...
I hope it's about the same prices as Plemix, because I'd rather buy from
you than from them.

Posted by: Timsta

i just double checked.. its loading.. but u can just drop me and email. we can talk turkey there. plemix has insanely low prices, but i can probably do better on my rpice. just give me a shout and we'll talk phones

Posted by: in2sky

yep Tim will send u a mail pronto.

Posted by: kms-lai

tim don't you want to talk peanuts, i hate turkeys, i love to eat them.

Posted by: Timsta

ha ha... i like to eat peanuts tho.. especially when drinking..
