I returned my first 8125 due to a faukty directional pad. That one had a Grid of dots on the screen. My new one is Grainy and th screen is a little dimmer. Anyone else notice this?

cingular does offer two versions. however, the only differences are the cameras (or lack there of) have you tried to adjust the brightness? your original 8125 might have been brighter due to the malfunctioning LCD as well...just my .02

There's an 8100 which is a non-camera version of the 8125.
If you got two 8125s though, they should be identical...

No they are both 8125's but I am referring to the actual touch sensitive screen overlay. If anyone here has a Nintendo DS they wil understand what I am talking about. My first one had visible dots in a grid pattern that you culd see when the screen was off. My new one has no such dots but is almost "grainy" looking when the screen is off.

I know what you are talking about. I have that on my 8125. I haven't heard about any of them being different though, while I suppose it is possible they used a different screen in some later models or something. While this is unlikely they would change suppliers of screens during production, I guess it could happen.

Remember the classic line: "Specifications are subject to change without notice." (aka, They can change suppliers which could lead to different parts on units with the same model.)

HTC probably uses a variety of suppliers in its procurement process, as having only one main supplier usually signals future problems. I think its pretty normal for companies to do this.
