904T has a 3D graphics chip?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Anyone know if the Toshiba 904T has hardware 3D acceleration? If so, what is the GPU (maybe a T5GP?)?

Has anyone with an unlocked 904T used the JBenchmark test to frind out its speed (http://www.jbenchmark.com)?

Thanks

Gee, I'm surprised so many 904T enthusiasts don't know what's inside their own cell phone...

Looks like the answer is yes, it does have 3D acceleration, based on JBenchmark tests.

Most likely it's equiped with a T4G chipset inside.

You mean the T5G or T5GP (this device has just been released, no?)?

FYI, the unprocessed JBenchmark results for the 904T gives smooth triangles at about 180K/sec and textured triangles at 240K/sec, which makes it 50% faster than the current top performer, the 903SH.

I can't be really certain, they hardly release the internal specs of these devices. Yep, it's just been released a couple of months ago. From what I even hear, even the Sharp's have T4G GPU's inside, which includes the 903.

By the way, since you are asking these questions, you must be a mobile developer.

It's incredible the way handset manufacturers don't make this information more transparently available. If I were Vodafone or Toshiba, I'd be seriously shouting about this 3D capability from the rooftops.

Yes, I'm a mobile developer; plus I'm trying to keep track of currently available handsets with hardware 3D, http://mobile.sdsc.edu/devices.html

Oh believe me, this is just the begining of what they "do not" release as information. There are even a lot of bugs and flaws in firmware implementations that are "undocumented". Like the old 60 series of the nokia's some garbage collectors are not implemented in their JVM, which results in huge memory leaks. Worst of all, they are making a lot of money off this, of making faults in the device, just look at Sony Ericsson, they make 100 euros everytime someone wants to ask a specific question about their handsets. The most money goes to the porters, which is what is driving the mobile porting business.

I was just wondering, since you collect all this device information, do you so happend to have any of the SDK's for the Sharp and Toshiba devices? (which includes that nifty little uploading tool)

Sadly not; I'm currently working with SE handsets.

I got my hands on the Vodafone Japan SDK. But it just doesn't come with any tool to upload or install 3rd party midlet's through the cable. Lately been working with those phones, a real pain to get apps to get installed, everytime I want to install an app it costs me 7$ for the data transfer. How ridiculous can it get.

It was really funny, but I just for fun poked around to see about the Mascot Capsule API that was used in these phones, and interestingly, they are tied in with the JBlend JVM, worst of all, they don't resemble the Mascot that we are currently using on the Sony Ericsson phones.

what kind of handsetsa re you working with hidefguy2?

They don't shout it out, but they do mention it on toshiba's 904T product page.

Thanks very much for the link; so it uses a T4G? Wow - how comes the benchmarks are so much higher than for the 903SH whaich also uses a T4G...

Can you translate? (Google translate is choking on it)

W900 and P990.

It's possible the reason why it's faster is because the JVM is upgraded, it's not just good hardware that makes your programs more efficient. Also the sandbox has to be well done in order to give you the current speed that you are experiencing at the moment.

ahh.. so you're mostly a se mobile developer very cool. what company do you work for? marky here works for a game development company.

My group works with a bunch of different handsets, but personally I'm currently working with SE's. I don't work for a company, I run a Mobile Data Visualization lab at the San Diego Supercomputer Center, http://mobile.sdsc.edu

ahyhh.. cool. so run tests and such then. benchmarking mostly. coo.

Yeah, but it doesn't really go into details about the chip, just mentions it. It translates something like this:
"High-speed image processing, 2.4 inch QVGA large picture and clearing by the advanced 3D graphic engine "T4G" tip/chip which was developed individually with sound, actualizing the play of real feeling. With Vodafone 904T ' street fighter? ' With ' the right brain paradise 3 ' (together trial version) it has preinstalled."

oh chris.. u know u love your phone

Well obviously it wouldn't go into those details, since that's a consumer's website. You would have to go to developers website, here: http://developers.vodafone.jp/dp/

Normally for the European version of the developer site requires that you apply yourself as a global business partner which requires a lot of paper work and not everybody qualifies for it.

If you don't understand japanese, don't worry, I don't either I simply navigate by looking at the links and using Google to translate everything. But all in all, they have the General emulators for the phones and they do have some specs of phones of which API it supports, but nothing so technically in-depth like what you are seeking for.
