Just yesterday I’ve gotten myself the slim card phone, Samsung P300 and did a short user review on it. I was wondering, with a 1.3mpx camera and 80mb built in memory alongside with outstanding built quality, how far can 1 push the boundaries of mobile phone technology.
Today, I was shocked by this. The DouBao 888, the Mobile Marvel. At first glance, the 888 looks just like another mp3 player. A closer look at the object and you noticed that it have a keypad! Wow! It’s a mobile phone! Although most part of the design was 8800 inspired, the 888 is merely half of the size of 8800. But the differences don’t just end there. The 888 is a powerhouse hidden with enough juice to put most mobile phones in the market to shame. In short, this Shooting Star aims to KILL.
At a glance of the 888 specs will wow most users and pros alike, given its petite outlook.
High Resolution Screen
Built in 60mb memory
MicroSD Expansion
USB Output
MP3 Enabled
MP4 Enabled
VGA Camera
“Metal” Construction (Type of material used is unknown at this point).
T9
Pin Yin
Equalizer
Loud Speaker
Easy to use interface
Basic PIM functions
Menstrual Calendar (Similar to Samsung Ladies Phones)
The 888 Packs in very user friendly interface along side with almost everything we are getting from the major phone makers. The only flaws could only be the lack of Bluetooth, Infrared and weak battery life. (However, I am unable to determine the duration now.)
The 888 comes packed in a very exotic and oriental styled Metal case and within it, you will find, a 128mb microSD, usb cable, (usb to charger adaptor), 2 batteries, leather pouch (styled like the Nokia 72XX series), Stereo earphones and 2 keys to lock the box.
Multimedia wise, the 888 plays 3gp and mp4 flawlessly but you will have to resize the video. Mp3 sounds good, however, some tracks might crack at full volume when playing with the phone’s speaker. The camera have very good refresh rate!
The 888 is meant to be the perfect gift with a very affordable price tag. (Price unavailable.) Darn, They even put a DIAMOND on the phone! (Yes yes, I know it’s a fake.) With a proper and aggressive marketing along with a strong after sales support, there will be no doubt that the 888 will put China Mobile Industry on the Map. Heck, they’ll even make all existing Mobile Phones Manufacturer go weak on their knees.
Although most people will make comments about China made electronic products without a Major brand backing, and mostly comment on the lack of creativity and originality, (Which is very true in the 888 case, even the opening tune and animation is that of Nokia.) this by no means they can’t dominate the market.
Take the 888 as a wake up call to the rest of the world. I am not bragging. The 888 is by far the most impressive mobile I have even held in my hands. And I truly believe this is not the most advanced yet.

These a some pics I took with the 888. Please note that the camera is only VGA and my room's lightning condition is quite poor. *At this point of time, I was told that the camera is 1.3mpx and the Screen is 262K*

The 888 actually have alot of settings and options for the camera, but I guess it's pointless other than using them for fun.

Mmmm.. nope... I checked, its GSM 900/1800MHz. Sorry man, else you would have love this phone!!
I have yet tried the talk time, but Screen is 262k as stated on specs.
ON Specs, its stated that it can go on standby for 100 - 250 hours and Talk time from 120 mins - 300mins.
But the batts takes a long time to charge though.. about 2 - 3hours...

it looks like a slvr. never heard of this brand before tho

By looking at the keypad, its made for the asia market, most phones from china, taiwan and korean are now trying to copy some of these very popular phone on the market today.
looking at the 888, it's half nokia 8800 and moto L6-L7-E398.
I do like some of their design, and they are quite cheap to buy for a everyday phone and the quality is quite good, it's a shame that I only buy well known branded products.

well.. there's reasons to stick with bigger names in the phone market.. support.. userbase.. and less headaches usually.. i've seen some asian ones where.. it looks great.. works horribly... you can't even save files to your memory card.. the functionality appears to be working.. but it dtoens't do it..and the file is saved into the world of non existant reality

I don't want to sound belittling, and the box is certainly cool, but I don't see much in this phone to call it a "powerhouse" or "putting most other phones to shame". A VGA camera when several phones now have 2-3MP? No bluetooth or infrared? It's been made pretty small, but IMO, that's at the cost of a number of crucial features. And what's the screen resolution?
