V3i: "Call Failed"s

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Well I have my new V3i and I can't use it for calls. Sometimes I only have Emergency Calls Only. Other times I have a full signal but whenever I try to call out, it says Call Failed. When I try to see what networks are available, I get Network Busy. I know the network isn't busy because I can make calls with my L7. Any ideas what's wrong?

Anyone know what's wrong?

I'm having the same problem, did you figure out what was wrong and how to fix it.

Same here. I called Cing. and they tried several things from sending it a signal to resetting and swithching sim cards ect. There is a service center close to me and I'm supposed to take it in. My V551 with same sim card gets signal no problem as does ny wife's V3.

Seems a little odd we would all start to have problems at the same time. I bought my phone in June. I am in Dallas.

yeah nobody has figured out whats wrong yet.

I dropped mine off at a cingular store. They are going to send it to a Moto repair facility in Ft. Worth. They quoted a 4 week turn around time. I will keep you posted....

Well I dropped my phone off 8/29/06. The store sent it off. I got a call saying the phone was not a US model and therefore could not be serviced. They said they were sending it back. A couple of weeks go by and no phone...I call, they trace, oops it's lost.

Thay sent me a new unit. It is Cingular branded and works like a charm. I am a happy camper....

I recently bought a unlocked/unbranded version of this phone off of ebay. I am having exactly the same problem. Some times I will have full service from cingular other times it says emergency only. I took it into the cingular store to get a new sim card and I still have the same problem. I know if I send in into Cingular they will not fix it becase it is not a US version of the phone. Is is possible to and would it help to load a new firmware or mod the phone is any way to fix this? Any help would be appreciated.

maybe it needs a new firmware upgrade

I had similar problems. I enabled "My Caller ID" - "All Calls" to "Network Controlled" and I could make calls. Since then I have not touched this setting. I did verify by clicking back to "Hide ID" and could not make calls. However I believe it is something to do with the network.

I try the caller id fix but it didn't work for me

My caller id was already set up that way so that fix did not work for me, have any other ideas?

One more option you may possibly try out is the active line. However that depends on how many lines you have AND if you are allowed both incoming and outgoing calls on all available lines. For example I have two lines but on the second I can only receive calls - no outgoing. If I select line 2 as the active line and try making a call I get a message "Call failed:" or "Call failed: Not subscribed". Hence I have to use line 1 as active line all the time.
Most of the time when I checked for "call failed" message I was getting a reason message on the next line like "user busy", "network busy", "not subscribed" but when the signal strength is weak I do not get any info on the second line. This I checked by going over to areas which are more or less surrounded by mountains (there are so many barren ones to chose from!?) and from basements in buildings. Hence I believe "Call failed:" without assigning any reason thereof is something to do with the network strength and/or probably the built in antenna body in the phone. For the time being I live with it until some one comes up with a real solution!

I can suggest replacing the PA.. as a matter of fact, today I replaced a PA on a V3i that had the same problem and fixed it 100%. Just a suggestion, good luck!

Posted by: blackfoot7204

What is a PA and how would I replace it?

hello am using motorola v3i and i also got the same problem that : " call failed not subscribed " but i received calls from other mobile and can also receive messages and u need to do one simple things , just goto settings menu - in call setup - my caller id - all calls : ( just change it as ) " network controlled "

And then u can receive and u can also dial number and this really works ......................
