8125 pop mail download problem

Hello,
I love my new 8125 with one small issue. I have it connecting to gmail's pop server. Sometimes, mail goes through fine. Other times, I'll get the tiny envelope icon indicating a have a new message, and at the bottom of the screen, it will give me the recipient and subject of this new message, but when I go into Messaging, the message isn't there. Trying a new send and recieve doesn't work, either. If I log onto gmail using my desktop, the message is there.
I called Cingular for help. The settings they suggested didn't work for gmail, then when we switched them back to the settings gmail suggested, the agent's test message came through fine. Last night, the problem was back.
Has anyone else had this problem, either with pop mail or with gmail in particular?
Thanks!
Yours,
Jo
(P.S. I did try to do a search, but didn't pull up this exact problem. Please forgive me if I am duplicating another thread.)

I guess that has to do with gmail's settings... like, it doesn't separate out sent mail from recieved mail for pop functionality.
I figured out that the problem I am having seems to be that anything that sits in the inbox for more than about 10 minutes is automatically and permanently deleted. Interestingly, things that are deleted stay in the deleted folder indefinitely. So what was happening was that my unit was picking up my e-mail, then if I didn't read it fast enough, I never saw it. Now, I have no idea how to fix this. In the meantime, I've set it to only send/recieve on my command, so I see the mail when it comes in.
I really like gmail, in general, but I don't know how sustainable this is going to be over time. I wish I could tell if the problem would be solved by using a different pop account.
