Nokia 6682 & backups with PC Suite 6.8

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Anytime I do a backup with ANY version of PC Suite, it always works, but fails on:

BACKUP LOG:
Some content on the phone could not be read and was not included in the backup.
Not included in the backup:
- Contacts
C:\System\Data\Contacts.cdb

Anyone know why this is?

Are people trying to tell me that they do backups, and get no error messages?

Posted by: naviwilliams

Anyone? I've tried this with 6.7 too, same thing. I've even cleared the contacts folder, and same thing. Do you know, Nokia have no idea either? In a JarJar Binks voice, "How rude"...

I tried doing a backup today after installing new software and adding new information. At about 80% it just stopped. It took about an hour to get there, too.

I had the same problem as you did... it stopped right at that section.

I went back to 6.7, or whatever the version was before 6.8, and get the SAME issue! Nokia have no answers!?!

can you back that file up itself? Have you done anything to your contacts? Like use a manager or something like that....do you have something special within your contacts, like pictures? Sync to outlook or something?

^In my contacts, for a few of them I do have picture in there. But, I've deleted ALL my contacts from the phone and the sim, then tried a backup - same bloody error! I could not believe it...

Hard reset on the Nokia 6682, and did a backup, same thing. So, it's nothing to with my contacts, per se'. Strange thing is Nokia have no answers; and I've tested this issues with various versions of pc suite. Now all my text messages (98 inbox, and 120 sent) are on my pc, and can't get them back on my phone!. That was Nokia's fault, after following someone's instructions over the phone...

Honestly, if you want something done...

I'm experiencing the same problem. Funny thing is, I was able to do a backup perfectly fine on Sunday. On Monday, I added a ton of stuff to my phone and wanted to back it up again.... no dice.

Yeah, crappy PC Suite must be the issue...

I just bought a new 6682 on Saturday. After installing PC Suite, I was able to arrange my contacts on the screen and backup successfully. What I cannot figure out is how to see the contacts on PC Suite without the phone plugged-in. I cannot even figure out how to restore a backup if and when in need to do so.

The contact is on your computer, on your hard drive go to :

Nokia Phone Browser\Nokia 6682\Contacts

Just press the restore button and pick the one you want to restore.

I could have sworn that if the phone is NOT connected you don't get to see \Nokia 6682\Contacts - am I wrong? In fact, let me check...

...nope, it does not show! Strange if it shows on yours, CaliMoon2005

You are right. Once the phone is disconnected, there is nothing there.

Just copy the file to your hard drive, and use Office Outlook to view the data.

i have the same error. here's how i get around it.

back up your phone to your memory card. then backup your phone and card using pc suite. if you need to restore, restore everything, (including the card) from pc suite, and then restore from the phone (using the memory card). a pain in the but, so i don't backup or restore often...

Excellant idea! Not even Nokia suggested that...

Now, I did a backup to my memory card, from the mobile. It took less than 60 seconds. A bit quick, no? I then searched the memory card (512mb) for the 'backup' file, with no luck finding it. It did not give an error during the backup, but it was quick, I hope it did 'actually' back up...

Received a NEW (well, who knows if it's new, or just refurbished), Nokia 6682, and still have the same issue with trying to do a backup with ANY version of PC Suite...

So, what gives, Nokia!?!

The phone has nothing to do with this. PC Suite is just not up to snuff.
