V3i MEdia Net & MMS Success--Instructions & Settings Here!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: stream

I got my unlocked/unbranded V3i last week and since it appears to be set up for a Chinese cellular service, internet connectivity and multimedia messaging wouldn't work. I decided I wasn't adventurous enough (yet... ) to use P2Ktools, etc. so I first went to the Cingular site referenced elsewhere on this site where you input your phone number and you're supposed to get a text message with MEdia Net settings, and another for MMS. It didn't work for me--and I tried it a few times.

I called Cingular customer support and spoke to a very helpful woman who said 50% of the people don't have success with that text message thing, and sent me to this site:
https://onlinecare.cingular.com/dev...r&deviceId=7410

This site has tutorials on lots of different topics, by phone.

For MEdia Net (and general browser connectivity), select browser/internet as category, and browser settings as tutorial. Instructions are in the box below on that page, but the menu navigation on my phone was a bit different. Go to main menu, extras, web access, web sessions. My phone had half a dozen selections that were set up for another network, which is why I couldn't connect. Select new entry and populate with the following:

* Name: MEdia Net
* Homepage: http://device.home
* Service Type 1: WAP
* Proxy 1: 66.209.11.61
* Port 1: 9201
* Domain 1: Blank
* Service Type 2: WAP
* Proxy 2: 000.000.000.000
* Port 2: 9201
* Domain 2: blank
* DNS 1: 000.000.000.000
* DNS 2: 000.000.000.000
* Timeout: 15 minutes.
* CSD No 1: blank
* Username: blank
* Password: blank
* Speed (Bps) 1: 9600
* Linetype 1: ISDN
* CSD 2: Blank
* Username 2: Blank
* Password 2: Blank
* Speed (Bps): 9600
* Line Type 2: ISDN
* GPRS APN: wap.cingular
* Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
* Password: CINGULAR1
The last 2 items are in all caps. Then save the web session, and set as default (access that menu with the - key, which is between the 2 soft keys at the top of the keypad).

For MMS settings, select picture messaging as category, and configure MMS settings as tutorial. I've listed the settings below, and since most of them are the same as the MEdia Net settings, I copied the MEdia Net web session to a new one called MMS and then only had to modify a few of the settings, rather than input them all again. To copy, navigate to your MEdia Net web session, press the - button, copy entry, and copy it to MMS). Then select the MMS web session, press the - button, then select edit, and modify the appropriate values (the items in bold below are the only ones you need to modify).

*Name: MMS
*Homepage: http://mmsc.cingular.com

*Service Type 1: WAP
*Gateway IP: 66.209.11.61
*Port 1: 9201
*Domain 1: blank
*Service Type 2: WAP
*Gateway IP 2: 000.000.000.000
*Port 2: 0
*Domain 2: blank
*DNS 1: 000.000.000.000
*DNS 2: 000.000.000.000
*Timeout: 10 Minutes
*CSD no 1: Blank
*Username: 1: blank
*Password 1: blank
*Speed (Bps) 1: 9600
*Line Type 1: ISDN
*CSD no 2: blank
*User Name 2: blank
*Password 2: blank
*Speed (Bps) 2: 9600
*Line Type 2: ISDN
*GPRS APN: wap.cingular
*User Name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
*Password: CINGULAR1
Then complete the remaining steps in the tutorial (I needed to modify a few more settings on my phone).

You should now have MEdia Net (and general browser) access, and MMS capability.

Being a noob at cell phone modding, I felt more comfortable doing this manually instead of using P3KTools.

If anybody has a link to a tutorial on how to use P2KTools, seem editing, etc. please provide it for the benefit of us noobs.

Yup. Old news and this has been posted dozens of times in these Moto forums as well.

As for P2ktools look in the Wiki for some guides. But you have to use P2KTools 8.0.6 in order to see all the partitions of the V3i.

I tried this, but it doesn't work. I suspect that it is because I am a legacy AT&T customer with an AT&T SIM - not a Cingular SIM. Does anyone have experience with that? Are there different user names/passwords?

Thanks!

Well I got all that stuff loaded and my MMS is working and so is my MEdia...however my standard text messaging will not work...what gives with that?

Posted by: yodicken

phoneilliterate,
I had the same prob. I was a legacy ATT wireless customer and bought an unlocked V3. The ATT card will not work for internet and MMS with the V3. You need to switch to a Cingular card.

not too bad just 6 months or so late?

Sugill those directions for setting up mmode worked for my unlocked RIZR Z3 too - thanks, I had to try @ 4 different settings before I found these. Now I just need to locate the right mms settings - joy...I can actually find the power button and much more
