(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: SymbianBlack

Has ANYONE been successful in get a unlock code for the 6682?

Posted by: naviwilliams

Nope! Cingular always say, "we'll email or call you in 3-5 days", but NEVER do!

Posted by: SymbianBlack

do you ever call back?

Posted by: naviwilliams

Er, yeah, many times, only to be drawn into the same procedure again, and again. And, in some cases people having no idea what you're asking for when you say you want the subsidy code for a Nokia 6682! Cingular, you have love them...

Posted by: mshelby

Not gonna get one from Cingular, for some reason we do not have unlock codes for any Nokia phone manufactured after November 2004.

So, why is it the Cingular Customer Service team takes all the details, and ask you to wait 3-5 days, but NEVER get back to you? In addition, they should know the 'above' from the offset, no?

ps: thanks for the info, at least I know for the future...

I've tried once, and never got anything for the 6682.

Other phones worked fine.

Same here, got codes for other phones, not the 6682. The following email was received March 6, 2006:

"Dear XXXX,

I have reviewed your email and I have resubmitted a request to the engineering department to see if there has been a release from Nokia for the Subsidy unlock code. It was noted on the account that a request had been submitted to Nokia and we have been waiting the release from the manufacturer. As soon as I hear any information regarding the code, I will immediately email you. I apologize for the delay and inconvenience.

Thank you,

HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!

I've tried so many times to get an unlock code for my V3 that I bought last June at full retail. They have given me such a run around I gave up on there sorry *****. I don't understand why they give everyone such a hard time about unlock codes. I have been with Cingular for a year and a half and once again I bought the phone full retail from a Cingular corp store.

Posted by: rick113

I was a pain in cingulars @$$ for 3 weeks. In the end i got 4 unlock codes. 8125,7290 and 2 razrs. It was fun annoying the crap out of them though. haha.

Rick.

Posted by: dasupaman23

I got my unlock code but it won't work . I think the person before me tried to unlock it and ended up 'hard locking' it. Oh well, I don't plan on using it with T-mobile, I just wanted it unlocked for teh resale value!!! $$$

Posted by: dasupaman23

Yeah I bought on eBay. No worries tho, I only paid $180 something with shipping. And the phone was MINT with the new software. I haven't had any issues with my 6682, 32k sim and 1gb dv rs-mmc. Just wish it was unlocked.

Posted by: xtasy.us

i got mine a couple days ago and i want to return the 6682 it pisses me off it was brand new and it cant figure out how to do jack right. i bought a treo 650 and an 8125 to compare and i think the 8125 wins

Posted by: xtasy.us

how bout this for those of you who really need it why dont you pm me your imei and i will see within a couple days if i can request a code for you... ( i dont know if this is against the rules)

Posted by: mikasn

I got my unlock code by email a few weeks ago-took about 4 or 5 days and worked fine. Just told them I would be travelling internationally next month...

...same thing I did, but I never get the email from them, or the call back. I've called them back repeatedly, only to go through the whole process again! Well, that's not going to happen...

Posted by: Dr Tran

My dad got his unlocked via email back in March.

Posted by: vikenb

Can the 6682 be unlocked with a code? If so, what number do you call for that?

I was told one needs a device plugged-in.

Posted by: ippon

6682 is part of a new generation of nokia phones called BB5.
BB5's can only be unlocked with the code provided by the wireless service provider.
so far no one has been able to unlock this phone via cable or using a code calculator.

I find it so strange that they can code keygens for a Windows OS but not for a Nokia cell phone. Maybe I just lack understanding on how unlocke codes works but it seems like someone would have figured it out by now.

Posted by: Spawnp800

So is it just dial 611? I remember when I tried to get a subsidy code for my SE T68m they looked up all my account info and stuff like they were trying to find the phone on the bills and stuff... since i bought the phone on ebay of course it wasnt listed...

Will I get the same run around crap this time if i ask for an unlock code for a phone I didnt buy directly from Cingular? Also, is there an email address to send a request to instead of calling? I hate talking to CS...

Posted by: ippon

nokia has made it quite difficult this time.
for the time being, you can't even someone to get BB5 phones unlocked, no matter how much you are willing to pay. the workaround simply hasn't been figured out yet.

and if your phone is not cingular stock, it is unlikely that cingular will have the unlock code for you. it doesn't really matter if you purchased it from ebay, as long as the origin of the phone is cingular. just call in to register the imei with cingular before calling in to obtain the unlock code.

Posted by: Spawnp800

I have a cingular branded 6682...how do i go about registering my imei with them? what info do i need (acct#, ssn...etc?) and again, do i call 611 for that?

to calculate BB5 unlock codes, the algo requires;

IMEI
Bluetooth ID
MAC Address
Product Code
Public ID and a Public Key
AND a Private Key

not an easy task.

also the providers actually don't have the unlock code in hand. they have to request it from nokia and then they send it to the provider and then it gets sent to the customer, which explains why people have to wait so long to get their codes.

Here is the process for entering in the unlock code for your phone: IMEI:

Before starting the process we have to give you warning. You have 5 tries, for the life of the phone, to enter this code. If you go beyond the 5 tries your phone will be permanently locked to Cingular network.

If you get code error twice I do suggest you call us before going any further. From within the US 1-800-331-0500 outside the US call 1-916-843-4685.

1. Press the # key once

2. Press the * three times to show a P

3. Press the * key four times to show a W

4. Press the * key Twice to show a +

5. Enter code ################ (thats my unlock code where the # is)

6. Press the * key Twice to show a +

7. Press the 1

8. Press the # key once

Your phone is now unlocked

Thank you for choosing Cingular Wireless

I called Cingular three weeks ago to request a code. They said it would be emailed out. Nothing. Then I called back today, got bounced around, and was given a subsidy unlock code. They said it was noted in the account, so those of you who have called in, you may want to ask the rep to check the account notes.

It is a 15 digit number, and they told me to enter it like this:

#pw+(15 digit unlock code)+1#

If anyone who received the unlock code was told to do it this way and it worked, please let me know.

Posted by: naviwilliams

I don't know why am doing this, but am calling them now. Giving them my new imei, and let's see what happens this time! Come next week, am sure I'm going to be furious...

presently on hold for customer service, will be a 3 minute wait, apparantly...

Ok, it's 19:40 est, and am talking to them now, they are taking the details!
Hmm, waiting with baited breath..

now it's 19:43, and she's created the 'ticket' for the subsidy code, but she won't verify the imei number! Honestly, some people. So, who knows what will happen now...

19:47 Cingular call back to verify the imei number!

Posted by: Spawnp800

So is traveling to Costa Rica in August a good enough reason for them to give me an unlock code? I might not actually buy a sim card for it, but it is a real reason for me at least...

Posted by: SymbianBlack

Cingular messed up and sent me 2 codes and they WASNT the right ones. So they're sending me a new nokia 6682...... Cingular has dropped the ball for me to much as of late.... I'm considering leaving and going t-mobile

Posted by: naviwilliams

^Why bother, they are all the same. Almost like a job really, someone pisses you off there, you move to another, and there is someone there, but worst...

Posted by: Nyi

can anyone heelp me out, im on at&t blue, but cingular wont unlock my 6682 unless i port over.

Posted by: naviwilliams

^as per the FAQ, it's not going to happen...

Well, you're not going to believe this! Today, I got a call at home, and it was Cingular. They left a message saying they will send me a text message with my subsidy code. Why, when you have my email address?

Nonetheless, I call them, as always they did not know what I was talking about. After about 15 minutes, they found the note on my account, and emailed me the number, and instructions, albeit the instructions did not work. I followed some instructions found here (HF), and it worked! Thank God for Howard Forums...

Posted by: Eaton

I called Cingular and they told me to call back in a week to get the code. Well, I called today, and the told me that the notes on my account said that Cingular does not have the unlock code for Nokia phones that were manufactured after November 2004. I find that hard to believe!!! Am I doing something wrong??? Anyone else get this response? Please help.

i recently submitted an subsidy code request last week, cingular called and emailed me saying they are unable to unlock the 6682 and that i would have to contact nokia to get it unlocked. i contacted nokia and this is what they said

Dear Riko,

Thank you for e-mailing the Nokia Care Contact Center.

We understand that you would like to get the subsidy unlock code for your Nokia 6682 phone.

Riko, most service providers and major electronic retailers are selling Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) locked phones. Therefore, these phones are compatible with a SIM card that works on a particular service provider's network only. Your home service provider may have service agreements with other Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) service providers in the United States.

Nokia does not have the authority to make changes to the phones it sells to a service provider, which includes unlocking them from service. Only the service provider can authorize or make changes. Please contact your service provider for their rules and regulations.

If you have any additional questions, please contact us. To ensure proper handling, please continue to use the current subject line.

Thank you for choosing Nokia for your mobile needs.

overall i feel like im getting the run around..cingular says go to nokia and nokia says go to cingular..can anyone help?

Posted by: agent623

I haven't looked in a couple of weeks (sold my 6682 so didn't need to unlock it), but the last I heard was that there wasn't a way to unlock the 6682 yet.

Found this on the cingular forum:
http://forums.cingular.com/cng/boar...essage.id=32499

Posted by: Eaton

I received my unlock code and instructions. I tried it several times and it either said "code error" or "Not Allowed". I guess I am S.O.L. Looks like it is locked to the Cingular network. Does anyone know if I can send the phone to Cingular to have them unlock it?

Posted by: tella

I received the code two months later, and it worked from the first attempt.

Posted by: Cuba

when unlocking the 6682 , do you have to insert a cingular sim in or a diffrent porvider? i remember when unlocking my 6630, it could be done in offline mode with no sim.

Posted by: jrsmooth

Either way is fine.

I'm thinking of purchasing a Nokia 6682 and unlocking it for international travel. I've read all the posts in this thread and it seems some people have been able to obtain unlock codes and others haven't. Any ideas on why this is so? Could it be different versions of the same handset affecting the outcome? Sorry to be such an obvious noob, but it seems strange that some people can unlock 'em and others can't. What do you think my chances are?

chances are slim, but it is possible, only if certain requirements are met

1.customer for 90 days, plus no outstanding balance
2,imei of device registered on account for atleast 30days
3.international roaming enabled

i think thats mostly it, but a few have tried and failed, and a few have had success.

i asked for the unlock code last wed. i got it yesterday, and it worked. for my 6682.

How did you get it. I tried tech support and they said it didn't show in the system so they sent out a "request" and it came back that they don't have any after November 2004. I also tried to email customer care and got the same response. Am I doing something wrong?

you need to call business care and they will take care of you call 800 331 0500 and they will take care of you tell them that you need the code to travel internationally and depending on who you get if you say "you guys did it for my last phone" they will go out of their way to figure out how to get you the code.

Posted by: ccrows

Besides resale or switching to another provider, what reasons if any for someone to unlock a 6682?

Do you get any extra features. PM me if you want.

TIA!!!
