i got my phone 2005 and it was flashed from the seller in Japan to Z800. It worked great with CINGULAR unitl now . and now it doesn't synchronize (stays) with the network , showing "No network" and when i try to search for available newtork it gets on it , it staying for a while and it loses it again, I tried switching to GSM only and GSM and 3G mode, , but it does the same thing . even got new SIM from Cingular (3G) and it still does the same. Does anyone knows if its the firmware and some kind of incompatability with Cingular? Has anyone experienced the same problem ?

The z800 is non-850, so that is probably one reason.

Do you have a 64K SIM CARD chip? Thats another reason.

If you have a 32K simcard, then ...

I thought the band (900/1800/1900/3G) a non 850 could be the reason, but i had Motorola V80 that was the same band and never had problems with reception before. why do you think that 32k SIM would be diferent ? this whole reception thing started 4 days ago. I even contacted my seller in Japan who is willing to re-flash the phone , but if Cingular uses 850 /1900 that would't do any good. If you know more about this issue , can i call you? i'm in LA

Does this happen with the flips open or closed? Try this. My phone reception bars drops slowly to No Network when I close the flip.

that's cuz when it's closed, something is dislodging the antenna or something like that. forgot what the problem is, but it's a common problem.

Can't believe a cel phone giant like the Ericsson has made such mistake like this, and they even had Sony to work with. Well, they haven't been making flip phones that long, but still this is inexcusable.

Yep, that's really the only problem, I don't know exactly what the fix was, whether it was replacing the antenna cable or replacing the skyworks chip, but I believe it was something with the magnet that read when the phone was open or closed.

I would try the SIM, that's my advice, maybe try a friends.

I live in Torrance, CA just a few miles from Los Angeles.

Same problem here.

I just got a V800 flashed with Z800i (latest one from SONY Ericcson) and it's persistent as before. The phone would not LOCK on a signal for any duration of time with all 3 of my active CINGULAR SIM chips. I tried some T MOBILE chips too and still reception is mediocre and phone cannot lock onto a network for hours at times, only to immediatly lose it again.

Now I did check by taking it apart and the antenna cable is intact, mounted securely on both ends and not being pinched by anything. Conditions are the same whether the flip is closed or open.

It's baffling me as my Toshiba 803T and Samsung 707 nd 709 are working fine on the same frequency 1900 GSM. I really wonder what the issue is...

My previous SONY ERICCSON W850i had issues with OS locking up frequently and now this on my V800/Z800i. What's wrong with these phones???

Let me know if you find a solution and I will do the same if I find it elsewhere.

Peace guys!

the problem was never resolved , you can't use SE 802 ie Z800 in the states , because ever since ATT uses the cingular towers they spread 2 alternative frequinsies(850 Mhaz and 1900mHz) and the phone is only 3 band , so the problem is un fixable , just get a different phone , now i use W810i and its 4 band (850Mhz, 900mhz 1800 mhz 1900mhz) , work great everywhere , even in parking lots

I see, so it's a switching issue when stepping on and off the 1900 frequency antenna, where most of California is covered with 850mhz rather than 1900. My Toshiba Tri Band 803T Vodafone works incredibly well only with 1900 though... Too bad SONY ERICSSON chipsets can't be so flexible with 1900mhz roaming or Cingular settings.

I had a W810i before and it used to freeze the OS on me all the time... Good reception though like you said...since it CAN pick up 850 for Cingular. I'm glad you like it. You seem to have a better one than my old one.

The reason I like the V802SE is it can work with the unlocked Japanese Vodafone firmware AND display Japanese text in MP3 Tags and TXT messages, as well as sort phone book in Japanese kana order. (you can guess I am a Native Japanese as well as English)

So, all Japan contacts stay in Japanese order and US contacts in alphabetical. I tried Sharp and Toshiba as well and both are useful for one or the other. Not both languages. If I set to Japanese, it loses T9 and alphabet listing order. If in English, I lose Japanese text and kana ordering. Wonderful thing about Sony V802SE is it can work with both languages very proficently. Even sync with both Japanese Edition Outlook and English Edition as well.
Man... decisions decisions now... I'll stick with Toshiba 803T for now I guess.

Oh well, off to search for a perfect phone again! FUN!

Thanks for your information though! I really appreciate it!

I received my 2nd (used) Sony Ericsson Vodafone 802SE from an auction in Japan. I simply unlocked it and viola! It works like a charm! It picks up 1900mhz GSM as well as any other phone I have.

Just because it was so beaten on the outside, I took it apart to change the shell to the newer but non-working one. I was surprised to find that they are 'identical' inside.

Anyway, one seems to be just faulty on the circuits? I have no idea. Just won't pick up singnal. The other one works perfectly. I flashed the faulty one to the same firmware and still the same.Reading somewhere online that Skyworks chip may be at fault. Still, I cannot find a single store that will repair or sell me that, or the whole motherboard.

At this time though, I am happy that I do have one that works. It locks into Cingular within 15 seconds of powering up, and stays on it.

If anything, I guess the faulty phone is good for a spare shell, battery and accessories that came with it like a desk charger stand and headphones.

Just to report... Sony V802SE/V800/Z800 does indeed still work in the USA on 1900mhz... Seems many of them are faulty though, perhaps poor quality control of chipmaker Skyworks? And the famous detaching antenna issues.

Sometimes being persistent, and overspending on a passion over economy of things pays off... Then again, I knock on wood that this one stays alive long. LOL!
