Sharp 903SH - Taking Photos

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: EFN

We already have a dedicated thread for Photos from 903SH. And it is quite apparent that some members have the "talent" to take exceptionally good photos in almost any condition including the dreaded "Night Shot Blur Syndrome"

I am still struggling with the options on taking photos so we might want to start a discussion on how best to use those options to get the best shot everytime.

For a start, I have no issues at all with daylight shots - all are lovely. If it's sunny I'll just tune down the exposure to -1. I'll use Macromode a lot for closeups and it's simply amazing.

But I do need help on taking photos in the dark like what are the best settings to use and where to stand and take the shots

Hope you guys can help.

Thanks

yea maybe we can also discuss about the camera white balance modes and what works best in certain situations. i like to use the cameras portrait mode, since it makes things alot warmer.. i have trouble with night shots also, any tips would be great.

yah.. this thread would be super helpful for those who aren't too familiar with camear functionality..

Been experimenting with sizes of pic and it turned out that some of the crisper pics were from the sizes of 1024X768 and 1280X960 - specially for lighted indoor shots. All done in Super Fine mode of course and with default adustment (meaning no adjustment LOL)

Max sizes will result a bit poorly for night shots and indoor - I am wondering if any of you guys have the same issues?

night shots are super hard for me..i took a pic of a couple of my buddies last night after dinner and it was nowhere near the quality of some other users pics..

i never take pics at full res for some reason

but yeah what white balance settings do you guys use at night/low lighting? do you just set it to night mode? what do you change exposure to?

I am still experimenting on Night Shots, but one thing I can tell you is that the better result will be with Night Mode off and set to Super Fine with sizes between 1024X768 or 1280X960. But most improtantly is where you stand and where is the light in the shooting environment. You can get better results if you stand facing a source light - don't bother with the flash because it will not help. Like most digicams (even the popular ones) I am not very keen on using them in dark condition and expect good results - the good old rolls camera with huge fasher still reign supreme in the dark LOL!

nice.. you shoudl post your pics in our big picture thread. we'd love to seem there too!

Posted by: break-r

so looking through the pics thread, i noticed alot of people have really nice close up macro shots..how do u get the pics so clear and so close?
i know theres a limit to how close you can put the lens before it wont focus...

btw timsta you're definitely a one of a kind forum whore

Posted by: totaltoanage

if you get too close for macro shots, use press the #1 for max zoom. it should be close enough by then.

Posted by: EFN

Macro shots are absolutely wonderful with 903SH (even in the dark), and the best thing is when in Macro Mode, the viewfinder will actually help to gauge the best Macro Focus - if you are too far it will mark with a Red X - same goes if you are too near - simply fantastic!

i put a lens protector thing on my lens when I first bought it.. I was just wondering.. do you guys think that it will affect the quality of my shots.. compared to not having a protector?? o.O

Posted by: break-r

i dont think it'll make a big difference?

Posted by: Timsta

no. if you buy a good quality one. the lens protector will be just fine
but if you buy those icky ones from places like daiso.. the film will leave residue and fall off and leaving more residue
