Hey guys, I recently purchased a Toshiba 803T cell phone and am currently using it with my T-Mobile service in the States. I was wondering about a problem that popped up, and I can't say what settings I might have changed or inadvertantly caused, to get this error everytime I open the menu or message screen.

It's not a big deal, but it is pretty irritating.

You can manually get to the NW Update Info screen by going to:
Menu - Settings - Network Settings - Retrieve NW Info.

It won't however give you an option (That I know of) to permantly ignore it. It'll just ask "Yes" or "No" When I had first set up the phone, it didn't have this problem, but it seemed like it first popped up after I removed my SIM card and replaced it..

you wont' be able to get rid of it once you have activated it. you activated it most likely by entering the wap settings or internet settings in gnegeral onto the phone.

if you didn't enter those settings.. you omst likely won't get that annoying pop up message which appears every time you hit the menu.

there has been reported solkutoin for this is to swap sim cards...

How will swapping SIM cards help? I mean I'm not doubting you, just struggling to understand how it would help. I am willing to try anything honestly.

yah.. it shouldn't help.. but there have been reports.. that it renews the user for th ephone or what not. its like a fresh start.

give it a try. doesn't hurt.

I can confirm that this does work on the 904T. I was playing around transferring files from the phone to the memory card and back, and next thing i know i got the "download network info" everytime i loaded the menu. Didn't even need a different carrier's SIM, i just put in another older fido sim of mine and then put the normal one back and the prompt's gone.

I don't think mine was caused by entering any wap/internet settings though because i've had those settings entered for a good while before this prompt actually showed up.

ahh.. so its probably just intermittent.. cause all i know is that when i slap in net settings into my testing phone it pops up. otherwise it don't show up

I too have experienced the problem with my 904t and noticed it ceased upon switching SIM's.

It did however start after I did the NW Network Info update using a Cingular SIM. Unlike when I tried the update with my T-Mobile SIM, the NW Network update did seem to do something with the Cingular SIM. After this apparent update, the NW Network screen popped up frequently.

Also, my T-Mobile Network option (using Manual Search) has been renamed Cingular (post NW Update). So, my only lingering problem is that T-Mobile does not show up as a name (or on the main screen) when I use my T-Mobile SIM (or any other SIM). I now get 2 Cingular networks of which 1 is T-Mobile.

Would love to figure out a URL code to use with the 904t's NAVI function - send out MMS location messages with a WAP URL than people in the US can use.

Also would be nice if the Cingular 3G network were visibible on the phone but I'm guessing the frequency in the US isn't going to work with the 904t.

umm.. you can't use the navi function outside of japan.. there's no maps for it. but you can grab coords tho. you can still surf the net tho. can't you? using your wap browser. u just gota config it.

no.. the freq won't be able to be used wtih oru networks in NA. its built for japanese networks

Just want to verify this occurance. I too got this "Retrieve NW Info"
This never happend to me until I took out the activated SIM, turn the cell phone on with out a SIM inside the phone. Then when I put back the activated SIM, I got this "Retrieve NW Info". I then replaced the activated with another SIM which happend to be non-active. Turned it on, then turned it off....Put back my active SIM and the "Retrieve NW Info" was gone.

I have the same problem with the NW info thing.
But also at the same time i cant send sms anymore everytime i try to send one it gives me a message saying 'transfer rejected'.
Does anybody know if switching sims will fix this as well, or is it a completely different problem?

OK, i figured it out.
The NW info thing went away as soon as i put a different sim in and put the original one back in like mentioned above.

The sms was some sort of cingular BS that they messed up on my account. haha...

yeah i tried that simcard switching wih my 902t and worked....
i was really upset at first because it was really bugging me to see that message about NWinfos every time i open my menu. but just switching sims will probably word on your phone. Though ive been tryin to do that with a 802n but it doesnt work at all, so i gave up and learned a lesson: do not play wih simcards.....
