Since I first heard about AMR from treatz, I wonder what he'd say about this.. from what I thought AMR was a good thing.

AMR on the Rogers/Fido networks is a GOOD thing. Cingular's network utilization surpasses our network usage tenfolds. From what I'm seeing here on Hofo, AMR on Cingular doesn't seem to work as it should.

FYI - Just updated phone to R4DB005 using SEUS.

Since my phone has been flashed a couple of times, I think this puts to rest any question as to whether or not SEUS will work after a flash. IT DOES. It's all just a matter of whether or not SEUS has an update for the region (CDA) of your phone. For reference, my CDA is Generic US (CDA 102555/15).

Hmm weird... I flashed mine through DaVinci before and my CDA is same as Paco's (CDA 102555/15) but right now... my phone says I already have the latest software (R4CK003). I also live in the Bay Area... weird....

Yap. I used the following when I updated the firmware via DaVinci.

I'll check to see if there are any new updates available from SEUS over the computer when I get home (I only checked it through my phone).

Well there's you problem right there!

I have yet to hear of anyone using that feature successfully. You have to use the PC software.

It's really funny. I had R4DB flashed via davinci, SEUS flashed me back to R4CK when I tried it last night.

It's a good thing though, now I can try out R4CK as compared to R4CE and R4DB... I found that the speaker volume wasn't as high with R4DB. AMR was added via davinci and kept with SEUS.

I had no problems at all updating via SEUS after my davinci flash.

hey guys.... i ordered the w810, gonna be my first SE ever... i've only used nokia's for the 5-1/2 years or so I've had a phone... I don't know what any of this CDA stuff means, how these firmware numbers work, what SEUS is, why you need to flash the phone when it seems they're being bought online and therefore unlocked/unbranded already, etc... If there's a thread I didn't find when searching that someone could point me to, I'd appreciate it... Otherwise, if you could explain the basic SE stuff I need to know, I'd appreciate it.. Thanks!

i used the same flash and still getting dropped calls!!!!!

first did it with R4CE and got dropped calls waisted $12.99 now i did it with R4CK and getting even worse dropped calls.

Havent done any other mods to the phone and using TMO service....

I just upgraded my W810i to R4DB00. It's branded with Orange. I need to know what files to download to get rid of the Orange branding.

I found the following 3 files:

W810_R4DB005-MAIN-HN.DVT
W810-R4DB005-FS_AMERICA1.DVT

or

W810-R4DB005-FS_AMERICA2.DVT

Anyone know which FS to use? America1 or America2? Are these even the right files?

So now this thread is 16 pages long and i DO NOT intend to read thru 16 pages to find my answer so im just gonna ask..

Are there any DOWN falls to this new firmware version..??

I know people were complaining about the light flashing, alarm not working, phone freezing up, etc.. The only problems im having is the dropped calls every once in a while and the phone freeze up at least once per day and i hav had it freeze up on my 7 times in a row..!!

If i do this SEUS and upload the newest firmware.. will this mess up anything that worked perfect with the older firmware.??

Thats all i need is to fix the dropped calls, fix the freezing... but then my light will start to flash and alarm not work or speaker volume output goes worse than how horrible it is now....

I read all the 16 pages in this thread, however, i still have some simple questions about the firmware thing, i hope someone will answer my questions...

1- What is the diffrent between MF (Main Firmware) and SF (System Firmware)??

I would like to 2nd this. I was with Nextel for 7 years, and my w810i is arriving tonight via fedex that i bought from ebay. I intend on flashing if I have any dropped call issues (cingular). I have no clue what all this stuff means - talk to me about nextel phones and ill know everything

1. The MAIN is the core firmware. A single MAIN will often cover many regions. The FS is the language and customizations files. Simplified, with the FS you are choosing the languages you want on your phone. The latest Davinci client makes it very simple. Do not worry about MAIN and FS. Just choose the firmware you want, and the client will download the correct matching pair.

2. The CDA refers to the region you want your phone associated with. This is used by SEUS to determine if you need a firmware update. Typically you would choose a CDA that corresponds to the firmware you chose. So for example, if you are in the USA and installed AMERICA1 generic firmware, you would likely want a CDA for Generic USA, which happens to be 102555/15. Again, the latest davinci client includes a list of CDAs for the W810 that you can just choose from.

3. See item #1. From the Davinci firmware list, just choose the one for the appropriate languages you want, and the client will download the correct file pair. Some firmware pairs are obvious what languages they include, like CHINA, but others are not entirely clear, like EU1, EU2, EU3, etc. If you know what languages you want, but not sure which firmware pack includes it, ask, and hopefully someone will have the answer

4. Yes. If you choose a correct CDA, and firmware becomes available via SEUS, you will be able to download it. Flashing does not make SEUS not work. It is only when people use an incorrect CDA that problems occur.

5. Version numbers. They are sequential, so R4DBxxx is the latest.

6. This option is only in the 15.xx versions of the client. Ignore it, do not check it. Also, do not check the Increase SMS inbox volume option. If you are planning to do just a simple flash, you can use 16.3, which does not include those options.

Hope that helps. Other should please correct any inaccuracies.

It REALLY helped me!!

Ok, i was more confident doing the flash after i read your answer... I did flash it as the intructions in the first page... Everything went smooth...

After the flash, i tried to get the SEUS update, and it did it!! Yes, After the flash, my phone was able to get the updates from SEUS!!!

Now, i do have English, Spanish and French for both Phone and Writing laguages!! Cool!!

I did use 102555/15 when i did the flash... After the SEUS update, now i do have R4DB005

I went to SE website to get the setting for T-Mobile GPRS and T-Mobile picture messages... Everything is working as i bought the W810i from the US Sony shop...

I've got R4CK with AMR right now. If I flash with 16.3, do I need to refinalize a second time with AMR options to keep my AMR?

Or can I just use one credit, flash to R4CE GENERIC AMERICAS1 and I'll still have AMR because it was on my phone before?

16.41 is now out. Comments say '-AMR customization improved'. Hopefully that means that the program is more logical about it.

As I've said before, Wotan is great if you want to do a simple flash, without having to worry about options. Davinci is great if you want more control, such as doing only a CDA change, or just changing AMR, etc. If doing nothing but a complete flash, might as well go Wotan since it is cheaper, right?

I went ahead and used Davinci to change the CDA only for my phone. That worked fine so I went to check for firmware updates using SEUS on my PC and sure enough it updated to R4DB!

I started out with R4CK with the singapore CDA and now its fully converted to American english and firmware. So to answer the question, SEUS will update your phone according to what CDA you have.

So last time I tried SEUS to update no updates where available, this time I was able to update and I verified I'm now using "R4DB005", can anyone tell me if this update adresses the drop call problem (I"ll find out over the next couple of days I guess but my drop calls are spotty, not as bad as some of you have described, so if anyone knows off hand I would appreciate it, thanks.) My old software was "R4CE012" by the way.

i have a quick question, and im sure this has been answered.
if i use davinci to flash my phone, will it add traditional chinese and enable themes on my phones? will using SEUS in the future disable the lite theme support?

my phone is unbranded, unlocked, but does not have lite themes enabled.

1) Do I still need to use the third party flash other than the SEUS connects me to?
2) If so, which region should I pick if I want to fix the drop calls and also keep the Chinese and English input?

It depends. What FW are you running right now? If you already have Chinese you could use SEUS to update the FW.

Otherwise, you will need to get FW APAC with Main CHINA to get both English and Chinese and use Davinci or Wotan to flash.

I am in San Jose CA using an unbranded W810i on Cingular, yesterday I used the phone for 47 mins straight out the box with excellent call quality and no call drop. No problems with SMS, or picture message either after downloading settings from SE through phone. I used the update service option on the phone and it says I have current software. If I use SEUS update service from my PC will I be able to get newer software/firmware? If so, what are the benefits or upgrades of the newer software?

Selecting any of these gives you a choice of selecting MCN2, or MCN3. All of mine are set to MCN2. What are these options and what will happen if I change to MCN3??

Using SEUS via PC will not update your firmware unless you change your CDA to a region in which the latest is available. I used davinci to do just that, and then updated via SEUS on my PC. The only difference you will notice between your current firmware and the latest is video thumbnail previews instead of a file list.

After reading through all 18 pages of this thread I decided to go ahead and flash my phone. But thanks to markl_farkl's very detailed walkthrough, it was a breeze!

Although I do have a question about the battery indicator: The phone status says it's at 78%, but the indicator is almost full, just a smidge off. Is there something wrong with my phone? I'd think at 78%, it'd be about 1/4 empty.

Even though it's been mentioned already, I just want to confirm.

I had a W810c (according to the phone status), but more likely a W810i flashed with China FW R4CK003 (since there are no Chinese chracters on the keypad). I succesfully flashed my phone last night with DaVinci (thanks to markl_farkl's guide) and used the following:

No...it's the SanDisk one that came with the phone. Maybe I formated it wrong?

Only the adaptor should be made by SanDisk. The memory card should be black and have Sony and MagicGate written on it. The printing should be all white on the front and back. Mine happens to be made in Japan, so if yours is from China or Hong Kong I might suspect a generic one. If it still works then I wouldn't even worry about. I've heard complaints of generic ones having reduced formatted capacities and slower speeds though.

Bought my phone from LA LA WEST and it didnt come with flash menus but was updated with R4CK003.

was scared to do davinci... but finally had the courage to do it and they have a new client out which is 16.4 and i updated my phone to R4DB005 from R4CK003. Got the flash menu's on orbit and the new equalizer menu setup. I even got AMR enabled!

16.4 enables you to enable AMR and get the flash themes.

i used CDA:102555/15 Generic USA
AMERICA1 generic firmware

choose the right firmware you want

1:Check box MS and choose the files you want
2:Check box FS this should be already filled when you choose the right MS you want
3:Choose the CDA you want:
4:Click advanced and "select advanced settings"
5:check box for "Enable AMR" and press ok
6:check box for "finalization"
7:Press flash button.

**MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE IS FULLY CHARGED**

IF NOT FULLY CHARGED YOU COULD MESS UP YOUR PHONE AND MAKE IT A PAPERWEIGHT.

This is what i did and got it all with 1 credit. Flash enabled menus, AMR enabled, and updated to R4DB005.

**BE SURE TO "READ CID/TEST CABLE" before you do anything!** Make sure your comp can recognize ur phone.

I read all the pages in this huge thread... And if I'm not mistaken, I believe that I read that when you flash your phone, your contacts are deleted.

Can I back them up somewhere?

Also, should I just flash to the latest firmware (R4DB, I believe) or should I go with R4CK003 since so many people who have Cingular like me have used that one and it has worked?

In the Advanced settings in the Phonebook, there is an excellent option to back up your address book to the Memory stick. After flashing, you can just restore it from that file.

Also, I am using R4DB with Cingular with no problems. Though some claim to have reduced earpiece volume, I have not experienced that.

I'm considering buying a W810i. This thread is quite long, so I was just wondering if someone could briefly tell me the difference between flashing the phone with the info posted in this thread vs. flashing it from Sony's website. It seems that Sony provides over-the-air updates of the latest firmware according to their website. What's different when flashing it using these instructions? Just curious.

You need to change the CDA, but you do not need to flash anything. However, this will still cost 1 credit. If you go in the advanced options of the davinci software you will see an option to not flash the phone, which should be checked. I don't see the program on my computer anymore or I would tell you exactly what I did. Anyway, hope this helps.

So I can't even get my PC to recognize my phone correctly. It says it's a SE w810i, prompts for the driver, but it won't actually install the driver when I point it to the folder. Anyone have suggestions? Maybe I need to install the PC Suite first?

Nevermind my last post. I installed the PC Suite and then tried to connect through DaVinci and it asked for the driver once more. This time it worked without a problem. Now that I've gone through all of this to figure out exactly what firmware and CDA I have, etc...I'm wondering if I actually need to flash this phone. I am running R4CE012 from Hong Kong (I am in the US, bought the phone on Ebay), but I am having no problems with the phone other than not being able to use it correctly in my TL (and this is an issue that is present across the boards with the w810i). Is it worth it to even mess around with flashing to all American specs and American CDA if I'm having no other problems? The only reason I would flash is if there is a huge gain or some sort between what I have already and the newest firmware versions.

Would I follow the same steps for the w300i? I would like to make sure that I have the latest firmware and flash for my phone. It came from howardforums.com and has a bunch of asian languages on it. Sometimes I have problems with reception and when I first started using it, it was dropping calls seconds after connecting (not so much anymore). My software version is CXC1123261 R9A035. Thanks

ok I have decided to go with WotanServer and flash my w810i. I've read all the pages in this thread and it seems like for a person looking to just upgrade the FW without those other technical stuff, it's better/easier to go with Wotan than Davinci.

As options, I will check the "Supress Camera Sound".

now some questions:
1- what is the "phone lock view" option?

2- in the Q/A they say that : Q: Is it safe to remove operator customizations (debranding phone) your phone and upgrade phone firmware?
A: Definitely, YES. If you have working retail phone and fully charged battery there is no way you can damage your phone.
is that a fact? I read somewhere in this thread that if you can't afford to kill your phone, don't flash it. Now that's a totally different answer to that question.

Flashing is safe. Tons of us have flashed with no problems whatsoever. But like anything in life, things can happen. I stand by my original comment. If your phone works fine, and if something bad should happen when flashing and you can't afford to replace it if it does (assuming SE won't fix it), then don't flash.

That's always been my "guide" to flashing. If the phone, computer, or whatever your are thinking about flashing is working then don't flash. It's a costs/benefit thing with me. If I don't receive a substantial benefit from a flash (improved performance, etc) then why bother. Just to have the "latest & greatest" isn't a
reason to flash a phone. Yes, if the information regarding the flash says it fixes "X", and you are having "X" problem, then by all means, update the firmware.
Someone once said...just because it's new don't make it better, just makes it new....

Hi I want to upgrade my W810i to the latest R4DB005, but the Main R4DB005's are all asian? (China, HN, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thai), well maybe HN isn't asian but I am unsure. I'm going to be using the America1 FS, but I want to have an American MAIN as well... or does that even matter? What are the differences country-wise for MAIN files?

Hi, I just flashed my phone. So far I've made one call. Sounded ok. I'll keep testing it in the coming days. It seems like I've lost all my games. I remember installing them on my MS. Oh well I can always download them again.

I just flashed my phone using the instructions in this thread (R4CK003) and everything worked. However, I just realized that that there is a newer firmware (R4DB005). When I tried using the phones Update Service, it tells me I have the latest software, when I know that is not true.

You have to use a PC and the SEUS computer software to upgrade. The phone's built-in update feature does not appear to work. If you use the SEUS PC software and usb cable, you will find the upgrade.

hey there. i'm a huge newb here. i got my w810 yesterday and decided to unbrand it. i got myself a log account on davinci but ran into a problem.
i can't seem to connect to their server in their client 16.4.
i can download flash files and i can check the server status as well as the updates. but when i go to 'Get info' on my account or 'FLASH' i can't connect to their server.
it's not my windows firewall cause it's off, and its not my router firewall cause it's off as well. i even connected my PC directly to my cable modem for a direct connection, but the same problem.
anyone have any input on this? it'd be much appreciated.

to my knowledge, unbranding and unlocking are two different things, unbranding just changes the firmware to the original specs from factory rather then from the provider *i.e rogers*, so to unlock the phone, u would have to do seperately

I just got my new w810i couple days ago from howardforums.com.com. It came with the newest firmware R4DB005 with CDA102555/6 R2A. However, I can definitely tell that the phone was made for Mid East region by checking the CDA from the table as well as the Mid East Lauguage pack from the language menu. I wanted to flash the firmware so that I can load it with the firmware with Chinese Language pack, as well as change the CDA to american one 102555/15 so that I can get all the latest US reginon update from SEUS.

My questions are:
1. Can I choose a firmware pair that is with Chinese language pack (such from China or HK version of R4DB005), but with the American CDA 102555/15?
2. If I could, after flashing it, can I still get the update for US region from SEUS? From reading your post, I thought I could since SEUS will read a US CDA from my phone after flashing it, and then will allow me to update.
3. If I just change the CDA, then can I get rid of the Mid East language pack from my phone and update them with either American or Asian version?

A few quick questions of my own. I have an unbranded, unlocked white w810i with R4DB005 firmware. The CDA is factory set to Generic Singapore/Malaysia... I live in toronto but i want to be able to text both in english and in greek..

1. would that require me to do a full flash with new FS and MAIN files as well as a new CDA?

2. i also can't tell if my menu is flash or not, can someone tell me the difference so i can determine what mine is?

I experience Drop Calls, but I"m too scared to flash my W810i. I've done it with my i-Mate Jasjar before. I'm not stupid, but the first time is always scary.

I think it's because I get lost between all these posts.

Is there any short and easy way of doing this??

Hi! this is my first post!

I am also a recent W810i owner, and also experience dropped calls! I read a comment on gsmarena which states:

for those who have problems with drop calls have your phone updated. I had this problem before and had it solved. go to the site of sony ericsson and find w810i.

Before you update be sure you have installed the drivers (its in the supplied cd). make sure you also have your usb connectors ready.

so my question is, how is having it updates from SE's website different than using this method?? are their advantages and disadvantages between the two??

The problem is when I go on the Sony Ericsson website and choose update and plug my phone in via the USB cable it says that I have the lastest software installed, but I know I don't because my phone shows a older version.

It turned off like it always does when unpluging the usb cable,it turn on by itself,but then it turn off again and started to turn off and on again over and over and over again.
i cant do anything know.
The pc doesnt recognize the phone because its keeping turning on and off.
I really need some help with this guys please help me

Is there any free software for repairing the phone.
I cant use Davinci because i dont have a PayPal acount and cant make any because i dont have a credit card.

Try taking out your memory card and see if that helps. I had a card that made my old K750 do that and I just had to buy a new card. Still don't know what was wrong with the old card or any explanation for the issue.

I tried much things.
When i turn the phone on it displays the welcome menu where i can either put in my pin and use all phone features or just the walkman feature.
When i put in my pin it starts then serches for a network and as soon as it find the network it turns off,and then on...and off again........and so on,
but when i use the walkman feature in the startup it works fine.

Is there any free software for repairing it

Guys, I have a davinci credit for sale $10

Reason: I bought a credit this morning and after I applied to my phone (forgot to click the finalization option) and credit was used, but phone gave me an error saying "Configuration error. Please contact your network operator or service centre"

I finally went ahead an flashed my phone through WotanServer first to R4CK003, and then to R4DB005. It didn't help at all. So I starting using my T610i again just so I wouldn't miss any important calls from my office. I think this is a carrier related issue (I'm on Fido). I know a girl that lives spitting distance from my house and she seems to be having the same problem. Only she has a QuadBand Nokia and I have an SE W810i. If I use a Triband phone I have no problem at all.

i am a newbie to flashing so i was scared to flash my w810. it suffered from the dropped call syndrome and it was annoying. after i got the confidence from successfully flashing my v802se(backup phone) to z800 i thought, why not try the w810? i followed the instructions and everything came out fine. my heart was beating so hard the whole time cuz i didn't want to have an expensive paper weight. well, i hope that solves the dropped call thing cuz that pretty much was the only thing wrong with the phone. just wanted to say thanks for the info.

SOmeone mentioned in this thread that they couldn't pry the battery door off their w810i. THAT'S MY EXACT PROBLEM! I cannot believe how hard it is, it's like it's cemented! I just got this phone today and I wanted to take my SIM card out for a moment because I needed to save some contacts from my other phone and OMG I've been trying for the past hour and I cannot get the battery door open! Yes, I've read the manual, saw the pictures, I'm trying to take off the right end, haha, it's just not coming off!

Well, guys, I'm going to buy the w810i with a cingular contract but dont want any of cingular firmware. I know that they messed around with the phone. SO, i was wondering if I unlock the phone and update the firmware from Davinci website, then would all the problems will be solved. For ex. Cingular blocked from having any mp3 as a ringtone. They want you to buy their ringtones to get profit. I want to get rid of that. If anyone has a solution, please reply!

I want to take off all the cingy branding and allow support for flash themes!

P.S. When you press the dedicated silver camera button from the main menu, does it take you to the camera screen?

It does not do this for me, but it snaps pictures fine. My button feels very soft and I'm wondering if this is a physical hardware problem. Thanks.

Flashing wont void the warranty but taking off the cingy brand will if u report it as damaged for a replacement. Then they will want to see it in person b4 they exchange it... "from personal experience"

It does not do this for me, but it snaps pictures fine. My button feels very soft and I'm wondering if this is a physical hardware problem. Thanks.

U must push it ALL the way down and hold it there for about 1 full second. Pushing it only half way will NOT activate the camera... u must push it all the way down.
Once the camera is active... pushing it half way down will do the auto-focus, then u push it all the way to snap the shot

not really... its luck of the draw to get one with the firmware that does not have the dropped call issue..
Mine did not drop calls at 1st, but after 2 months of usage it started to drop calls left and right and then one day it just stopped and has not dropped any since..!!
I purchased my W810i back in Feb and it had the original firmware...

Ive never been a fan of flashing phones... Something always changes. Its never a perfect flash... it will fix one thing and mess up another.

Press the * (star key) once
Press left twice
Press *

This will take you to the "Service" menu.
Select "Service info" (should be first option)
This will take you to the "Service info" menu (no, really?)
Select "Software info" (should be second option
The first line contains the version number. Will say something like "R4CE012" or "R4CF002" or similar.

I debranded my Cingular W810i.

It was good and bad. I had to look for the MediaNet settings (got them through Cingular and SE Websites). What I wasn't sure about is that the Medianet setting is labeled "Cingular GPRS" and whether the phone will take advantage of EDGE.

The Camera snap sound is gone.

The Right button with the Cingular Jack is now enabled as a short cut menu.

The phone does not drop calls.

The ear piece sound is really low.

I can use MP3 as ringtones.

There are no static sounds when I place MP3.

Alas, my Cingular branded w810i refused to make them ringtones.

So, I debranded via Wotan and am very pleased with the results.

The DCU-60 is the same cable used by SEUS, Da Vinci, and presumeably Wotan. If you need to _unlock_ the phone, you would need a different cable.

^Yes, it will work fine.

After unbranding my Cingular w810i with Wotan, most of my custom ringtones do not play "fully", as in, the end of a given file is arbitrarily cut off, so much so that certain ones just flash on the screen without making a sound and go directly to the next file in the Walkman player interface. Anyone else having this infuriarating problem? I am using regular MP3 files and have made sure that the files were physically transferred correctly.

I have tried many different things to get the internet to work on my unlocked W810i through Rogers, but to no avail. will flashing the phone also be a requirement in order to enable web use? i already set up the entire thing with the right internet settings, but still reading "connection failure, if problem persists, contact operator for support".

Thats the EXACT message i got from my phone when i tried to access the internet. Even ater inputting the correct settings from SE 3 times. Finally i called cingular to find out that my internet was blocked....
They removed the block and now it surf's problem free...!!

SAME here... I thought that was a nice touch that cingular did on their firmware. In addition to using the red light at the top of the phone when powering off, so you actually know when you can turn it back on

I've tried searching and apologize for my ignorance as I tried reading all these damn pages.

My fear is that the first post was so old (In computer years) that with all the updates and such, I was more concerned about now than back in May.

I am getting a W810i and really want to know what I can do to get it unlocked vs. unbranded or flashed.

I'm not computer literate and so, a lot of the language used seems like foreign words to me.

What I want is a phone that is problem free (As much as possible). I don't want volume issues, I don't want BS crap that is involved with Cingular and them branding the phone. I want to unlock the potential and not have to visit a website every other week to make sure I have the latest firmware or get updates that are needed.

That bother is more annoying to me than a low volumed ear piece or a few dropped calls.

Can someone tell me what I can do that is easy and pretty much a one time deal that will net all these cool things discussed in these 25 pages. I want to unleash the phone and not worry afterwards.

If flashing the phone via a website is my only option, which is better?

nvm... i fixed the problem...

for anyone with cingular and recently just got your phone that are planning to unbrand their phone... the instructions on the first page is not up to date. The current firmware is R4EA031. In order to flash your phone you will need the 16.9 loader. The one on the first page is 15.94.

People having problem with the low volume ear piece.. this can be cause by a bad connection between the headphone adapter to the phone. wiggle the connection see if you hear a difference.

Anyone know how to transfer games to the phone? I downloaded some games and save it in almost every folder but it still don't show up in my phone.. any suggestion?

I just wanted everyone to know that my dropped call problem is still gone since I flashed my phone with this update.
Since this creating this thread I have upgraded my phone to the newer software version R4EA031 using Sonys software update program. Get it here.
It did not cost me anything at all and updated my phone with no problems. (You need to set the CDA for your region as specified in my instructions) I only ran the newer update (R4EA031) in hopes it would fix the camera problem (Camera could not save photos with complexed scenes - files sizes over 500k) and it did fix this problem. If I did not have the camera problem I would still be using R4CE012.(Software I originally referenced) Remember just because newer software is available for your phone does not mean its better. I have Cingular service in San Jose, CA USA. My phone has been running R4EA031 for about one month now with no problems and no dropped calls. It appears that the battery last longer also. (My phone has the 2GB Sony Pro Duo card)

Please keep in mind my original post is still valid if you are having the dropped call problem. The whole point of this thread was to fix the dropped call problem. Nothing more.

I follow step by step , download files you said ,, and flash the phone. When finish flashin and turn on the phone said configuration error.. I olmost take out my gun and shoot the pc and the phone .. try a 2nd time and the same result. Mine was cingular branded and really suck compare with original w810. So what I do,, forgot you F%^$ step by step instruction and go the way by miself. I download the latest logger client 17.3 went to flashes tab, select " W810 R4EA031/R4ED001:AMERICA 2: AE PB XL " press on "get files" when finish download went to flash tab , select the firmware and use the "CDA 102555/15 - generic usa" start flashing ..

vuala . Got a new debranded w810. its amaizing all the stuff cingular take off on this phone . cingular are very stupid company, branded phone will keep costumers scare out to buy the w810.

P.D. sorry about the (F%^$) word but I almost kill my self when I read (configuration error please contact service provided) the first thing that come to my mind was I kill my one week new phone and warranty won't cover me for do a debrand jeje happy that at the end gotit debranded..

I think you might be the first who followed the procedure exactly and it failed? Either way the most important thing is your phone was not bricked. (you were able to recover it) Anyone else try this procedure with the newest 810i and it not work?

what a disaster i think that I do the best for me and my phone but I was wrong (going to shoot the phone for 2nd time) the phone is super greate i like very much the new icon styles the shortcut button,, remove ringtones from random play in walkman.. but a little issue is that now I can not download nothin from cingular,, I use to have mobitv2 and mobiradio in my w810i and when i go tu install them, GUESS!!! .. OPERATION FAILED.. everything that I try to download from cingular, GUESS!!!! OPARATION FAILED.. and its only from cingular site i downloads games from oyher sites like SonyEricsson, Mobango, GetJar, and work fine...but from cingy GUESS!!!..
the IM is not configurated, any idea on server configuration (server names).. I love my mobitv what can I do, there is other way to get mobitv not from cingular, I read in phonescoop.com (W810 forum) another person with the same oparation failed[I] issue .. someone have a cingular debranded phone (W810) that works with cingy's stuff like mobitv or games from cingular website.. what you recomend to me for get back my mobitv.. It's somewhere in the debranding thread...sorry I don't have a direct link (I've spent the last hour reading on stuff to do with this phone...)

Exactly, I first sent the WAP settings from Cingular's support site but they didn't seem to work, so then I used the SE USA support site and sent all the appropriate settings to my phone. It works perfectly. Keep in mind you wont have any of the Cingular Media Mall stuff.

I use the SE USA WAP configurator and MMS configurator, the internet conection works fine, i can browse the internet and download stuff from getjar.com and mobango.com (2 site taht I use a lot) but from cingular can not download nothig ..

you have the flash and flex? By using DaVinci or Wanton, does it just do the flash upgrade..it wouldn't touch the flex right? (all the settings for my carrier)

And whats the difference between DaVinci and Wanton. Seems like DaVinci is more stable and less people have had problems with it?

hey does anyone else have this problem. by the way im using wonton to flash my phone (same idea). when i have to install the usb drivers that wonton provides, i cant do it because my computer automatically installs the drivers for the usb cable, any ideas? ive tried everything

i got the same problem Whats happend is that you use the incorrect firmware .. when this happend to me I can use only the mp3 player an see the demo video,, if this is your problen you need to flash again with the correct firmware and language .. read my post in this thread about 6 or 7 replies before this one that have the instruccions and steps to make it work.. when this happen to me I olmost kill myself jeje .. but I resolved and now work perfect .. if you need asistance PM me or post it good luck

I downloaded the Sony File and installed it. I tried to run the Update service but it says incompatible flash version and won't start at all.

I'm running the latest Flash plugin and I downgraded from IE7 to IE6.

Any suggestions? Otherwise, I'm going to follow the instructions at the beginning of the thread.

just flashed my previously branded cingular w810i...and I feel liberated.

Just wanted to say thanks everyone for all of your input, both successes and failures. I printed out all 25 pages, read them all, and the process (via Davinci) was a great success!

Interestingly, afterwards when I hit the right side volume button to check status, it says "no memory stick." But, clearly my MS is present as I can play MP3's from it, and also was able to reload my phone contact info from backup MS to main phone. Frankly, I don't really care what the status info says, I just know that the MS and the rest of the phone works fine after the flash.

So, thanks again everyone who has contributed to this thread!!!

For whatever my opinion is worth (i.e. newb), you should flash your phone, get the latest FW: R4EA031. Updating the FW to eliminate the dropped call problem is how this thread started out.

it may take a bit longer to do it, but there's 0 chance of it to ruin your phone, because all you have to do is simply reflash if it gets interrupted vs spending extra $.
