Mobile Phone tools for KX5?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I want to be able to change the recording time on my kyocera slider remix KX5 for the video recording time. I have a 512mb microcard. I heard you can change it to 255 seconds. I have the Kyocera Wireless PST program and I can't get it to hook up to my phone. Can ANYONE tell me how to get the program to find my phone? I have the usb cable that came with it.
Any help you be appreciated! thanks -joe

Buck, as of a week ago I was in the same boat as you. But through reading the info on this Forum, I was able to make that change as well as unlocking the 2 games Alltel had hidden on the phone. First step is to install the USB driver that came with your cable (or from the Support area of www.kyocera-wireless.com if you didn't get software with the cable). Install that driver FIRST, and THEN install Kyocera PST. Go to the thread http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/766519-1.html to find where that software is so you can download it.

After that, it's pretty simple to run PST. Do the "Read" function and it'll bring in all the programming settings for the phone. Go to the Display tab and change the Enable Games option from False to True. Then go to the video record time option and change it from 15 to 255. Then do the "Write" function to write your changes to the phone.

Remember that "keyword search" is your friend here on Howard Forums. It's how I got all the info I needed. Search on "KX5", "PST", etc. Good luck!

First Off, thanks for your help.. This site has been great on giving me things to do with my phone..

Now on to business...lol I downloaded PST but after that, I have no clue what Im doing.. I dont even think its registering my phone. I have it pluged in a usb port with the cable that came with the phone..Where can I find my phone?

Posted by: AirTango

Make sure you go to Device Manager and Modems and see which COM port your phone is on. Then go into PST and select Port tab add that com port. Then go back to Phone Programming from drop-down. Read phone then make changes and then write back to phone.

Posted by: buckguin

Thank you so much guys. I got the games and the video time changed.. I figured out my problem. I only had the USB cable driver downloaded and skipped the others cause they werent important at the time.. Thats why it would register my phone..

Is there anything else that would would make my phone better that I can change?

On to trying to get videos to play on my phone...lol

I have installed Drivers first then PST and the darn thing still cant find my phone what am I doing wrong??

Posted by: biglaughs1910

i have everything figured out except for getting the two extra games enabled. I changed the right value to true from false and when I go to access apps the games aren't there. Anyone got any help?

ps for the guys that can't get there phone recognised to with the pst program. I had to use com port 7. keep trying numbers until it works. maky sure the phone is plugged in and on. On, not in data transfer mode. try ports 0-9. and you have all drivers installed properly.
when you plug in your phone no hardware install windows should pop up. if they do, install them. let windows do it automatically using the internet for the most updated versions.

Where did you get PST software?

Posted by: buckguin

The games arent in Axcess Apps, they are in Tools.

Remixer, the PST is somewhere on this site.. http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/766519-1.html . That is where I got mine from..

mikekx5 and hanoverfiste, you have to understand that it is really hard to explain this stuff to you on a forum, at least for me it is.. But i have did everything that you guys are trying to do and it took me a day of reading this forum and trying everything out to do it.. Its really easy once you figure it out..

Im not going to type it out on here cause its confusing to type but if either of you have aim, drop me a line at jdport593.. If im on, i will gladly walk you guys through it or at least through the way I did it and hopfully solve all your problems...

Ok guys.... I guess I'm much more of a newbie than I realized! I've been reading, and reading and searching and ... still failing!

I've got a KX5 Remix. I've got PST 3.6.65. I connect the phone at PST does see the phone. But it says "Unknown Phone Type". It seems the KX5 is not known to the ver 3.6.65.

I searched the threads (that's where / how I found the 3.6.65) but I can't find anything newer.

Did I miss something? Or??

Any/all advice would be welcome!

Thanks!

U.

Did you install the drivers BEFORE the PST? I personally used the software link that is provided on the site, and it's worked fine for me. If nothing else, just install that software and see where it gets you.

And by on the site, I mean on the first page of this forum topic. Maybe that's where you got it in the first place - I have no idea. Hope it helped.

All I know is I have 3.8.XX and I got it from this forum. It works with the KX5 remix.

I think the thread http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/766519-1.html has what you're looking for.

Thanks all!

After a few PM's and a whole lot of common sense, yes, the problem was I had the WRONG VERSION of PST... and old version. 3.8.18 it works perfectly with my KX-5 BT Remix! Games are alive.... recording time changed.... banner cleaned up.... ah, what a delight. Thanks to all!

I did it! Didn't think it was going to work at first. Didn't see my phone listed in Device Manager under Modems...then it just appeared! After that, it all fell in place (after a lot of trial and error) There's all sorts of options to change but I just enabled the games (don't play games but now I CAN) and increased the video to 255 mins. Set the camera and video resolutions to max. I wish I could offer help but I'll probably never be able to do it again without going thru the same 30 minute process. I can tell you that the USB drivers were first installed, phone was plugged into the computer using the USB cable. Navigated to Settings/USB/Enable. Went to Device Manager to see if my phone was recognized under Modems (it finally was). SOMEHOW I found out that the phone was on Com5. Opened PST/PST Configuration and I think had to add Com5. Then Start Clients/Service Programming/Select Active Phone/OK/Display Tab. This is where you'll find the game and video length options. I HOPE that can help someone. Hey, if a 47 year old grandmother can do it, I know you young guys can!

Posted by: sinoloco69in

yea i did all that lol i got it to recognise it and everything my problem is that once i did all the recognising before writing the new settings to the phone it asks me for the service programing code which is where i get stuck cause nothing seems to work...
