Motolola L6 sliver, unlocked signal question

I got an unlocked motorola sliver off of ebay. I put my sim card in and I don't have any signal/no service/emergencys only. The guy I bought it from said I had to put cingular upgrades on it before I would be able to use it. How do I do that?

doesn't sound right - who is your provider? normally, the phone should work to make calls out of the box!

I have Cingular. I have been on the phone with them and they said it was a problem with the phone and then I talked to motorola and they siad it should work and that it was a problem with the service so I told the guy I baught it from and he sent me here.

i got a L6 from ebay too...i put in my t-mobile sim and it work...now here's my problem...i can receive text but i cant read or download it and i cant browse the web...does any body knows whats wrong.....

Call t-mobile tech support from another phone they will send you a couple of text messeges and everything will work fine!!

Yes my sim card works in my present "cingular" phone.

you need to activate these from seem 0032_0001

offset 03 - bit 1: Message > Quick Notes (1 on, 0 off)
bit 2: Message > Drafts (1 on, 0 off)
bit 3: Message > Outbox (1 on, 0 off)
bit 5: Message > Inbox (1 on, 0 off)

I had this problem...I got my L6 quad band enabled and then added the funlights, but wondered why I couldn't send text messages or see them if I had bypassed the new message screen.
