SmartPhone Connect Unlimited - $19.99

I saw this on Cingular's site if you choose the 2125 and called Cingular to change my existing plan with a SMT 5600 from the 5 MB Media Works. The rep took a while to find the right code to change it but it worked out. I actually went with the SmartPhone Connect 5 MB plan for $9.99. I don't care what they call it as long as it saves me money and/or adds something. Didn't see it available for any phones besides the 2125.

This is the code now showing on my account online. It might be helpful to those wanting to switch so the rep doesn't have to look too long for it -

BM ME NET MAIL 5MB

description of the plan -
SmartPhone Connect Unlimited**
$19.99/month

With SmartPhone Connect, you can browse the internet from your wireless SmartPhone handset. Put your relevant categories and headlines right on your home page, and spend less time looking for important information such as current news, weather, travel information. Check CNN, The Weather Channel, etc.. You can also check e-mail, send/receive instant messages and photos. Plus, you only pay for the amount of data you send and receive, not the time you use the service. And with the Smartphone Connect Unlimited feature, all your data usage is included.

* 5MB Plan says the same thing but is $9.99

It seems like the same thing as MEdia Net unlimited. Cigular just changed name so that they can charge us 8125 owners for twice as much (PDA connect).

For Media Net bundles I didn't think the "Basic" $9.99 plan included much... like 1 MB, 200 txt and a hand full of picture messages and the $19.99, which I had, "Works" was 5 MB, 1000 txt and unlimited picture. I think this Smartphone Connect 5MB for $9.99 is on par w/ the "Works" package. I guess I'll find out soon enough....

The description you posted above says nothing about text messages or MMS. It's all about data connections. It says instant messages, not SMS text messages. And it says send photos but didn't mention MMS. You can do instant messaging and send photos with a software using data connection but it is not the same as SMS and MMS. Read the fine print carefully.

There is no fine print on Cingular's site or any that was relayed to me by the rep. I'll check my usage in a couple of days and see if I can determine what I'm being charged and call Cingular back if necessary. I could be wrong. It won't be the first or last time.

Hmmm.... You may be right. I got a picture message from someone and it didn't come across like it did in the past. It was a text message that said I received a picture message and to go to a website and enter an ID and password to view it. Sounds like they are just calling Media Net, SmartPhone Connect now.

I didn't specifically ask, just assumed (big mistake I guess) that it did include messaging. Time to call back....

I signed up for it but i can't access MEdia Net anymore.

"Text Messaging: Included at 10 cent per message with all data plans when activated on a compatible device....MISCELLANEOUS: Unlimited plans (except DataConnect and BlackBerry Tethered) cannot be used for tethering applications."

so, is "Smartphone Connect" same as "PDA Connect"? in other words, can you use "Smartphone Connect" with for example 8125?

I just grabbed a Data Plan brochure from a Cingular store today in an effort to better understand the options for the Blackberry that is due to arrive in the next 48 hours.

Then, I hopped onto the Cingular Web site. If you add a Blackberry, for example, to your cart, it then offers you a few packages. It shows the Blackberry data plan, then text messages separate. Crap! Oh, hell, who needs push e-mail or Internet? Heh.

Nice thing is, if you have a voice plan of $39.99 or higher, you get a $5 discount off most data connect packages (but not SmartPhone connect), as well as PDA and Blackberry Connect, and all Blackberry data packages. So, slipping in the $5/mo 200 SMS package might be useful.

More investigation to be done. Man, I'm getting to be a real phone geek.

Smartphone Connect is identical to Media.Net Unlimited except it includes Xpressmail (which on its own is $5 month).

can you use smartphone connect to get cingular corporate email (employee email)?

Posted by: wv50bmg

When I log onto Cingular it say I have MEdiaNet/Internet. I signed up for the Smartphone unlimited plan. I called Cingular and they said I had MediaNet plan. When I told them I had wanted to be signed up on the Smartphone connect instead, they said the only difference was the ability tether a laptop. I said I would like this option, so they transfered me to someone else. He supposedly said he was switching me to a pda data connect unlimited plan still at 19.99. So I really don't know what I have, but at least it works...

You COU line should come fully loaded (Blackberry, PDA Connect, MEdianet, MMS, SMS, Goodlink, etc). If it's ERP than you'd need to get Blackberry or Goodlink.

well i ask because my manager said i could have a 2125 but not with data connect, just medianet, and i asked what the difference was and he said i just cant get my corporate email, but he said i can still tether.... it kinda confused me...
