One big area for testing is durability thanks to the V180 and V220 fisaco. On the UMTS side if theres a firmware issue, no big deal, OTA the new firmware and get it on the shelves.

Though when I see a large percentage of people coming back with D807s with cracked screens and 6102s with video problems and other bugs it makes me wonder what the hell the manufacturers are doing even though they must be working within a constrained budget per device.

If the 6126 did not make it pass Cingular testing, there's some serious issues with it and thats all I got to say.

Don't expect us to launch 'h' versions... the 'h' is for hearing aid customers. If you really wanted you could get the 6102h special order from Cingular, based on the original 6102 including no bluetooth, worse 850 reception, and hearing aid compatible. It's not an actual upgrade, just modified for hearing aid compliance...

The main thing they (Nokia and Cingular) were arguing about was in fact the LCD, and that Nokia (reluctantly) agreed to put a plastic protective screen on the LCD. He and I both agree that the plastic screen, while it will offer some protection, will diminish the beautiful screen.

I love the LCD screen without the plastic screen.

I would like to bet him a couple thousand that it won't... you would think Nokia would train their employees better. By the way... it really did get cancelled. It's not like we sit around in the office and stores and guess whether devices are coming out or get cancelled, its actually communicated. LOL

Cancelled

Why wouldn't it be? What is wrong with it.

Posted by: shoman94

Why is it that no one can actually come out and say... it didn't pass because of this, that and this. All we have here is speculation. But whatever...I'm glad not everyone and there brother will have this phone.

Posted by: Antioch18

Hey Bobolito - Why is there that big white strip of tape in the battery cover?

My new 6131 doesn't have that.... is it some sort of antenna extension, or just tape?

Posted by: bodeh6

Looks like T-Mobile is getting the 6133
Link

Posted by: Antioch18

Bah, I prefer the 6131 over the 6133. That new keybord looks wierd. Besides, why make it GRAY?! Black is way better for the keyboard and LCD framing.

Posted by: bobolito

I am with you. I like the design on the 6131 better.

About the strip on the battery cover, I have no idea, but it does look like some sort of antenna.

Posted by: Topsales

I would have liked it all silver, but I will see as soon as they are released. I plan on picking one up.

Posted by: Antioch18

Why? You already have a 6131. Isn't that a bit of a waste?

Posted by: Topsales

Just curiosity, I guess. I also am having the hardest time dealing with Nokia to have them put the firmware upgrades to the 6131 on the PC download site. I would like a phone with US warranty and support. I knew the risks of buying an unsupported phone, but as time goes on it gets tiring dealing with the crap from these cell phone manufacturers.

I will, if I like the 6133, keep it and sell the 6131 on Ebay. If not, off the 6133 goes.

Posted by: Scottish Skyeandce

6133 will be released nationwide 9 October
you may find it in some stores now (same situation as 3220)

Posted by: Topsales

6126 is back on Amazon, this time unlocked/unbranded. 1-2 week delay, so we will see.

Posted by: .7

Well, let us all revive this little soap opera that is the Cingular 6126 as I have it on very good authority that this device has been resubmitted to Cingular and is currently back in testing.

Sorry to do this to you guys, but I thought you would want to know.

Posted by: pauldg

not that it isn't good news, but isn't this phone a day late and a dollar short? Tmobile really beat 'em to the punch, if u ask me. i wish this was happening to the n80 or the 6282

Posted by: cuidinsider

oh no they added the garbage again lol

Posted by: macizcool

Stop messing with my heart!

Posted by: Mr. Bond

How funny...I went to SunCom yesterday to purchase one, and when I bought it, I realized that it was not able to be unlocked. I'm really looking forward to the release of this phone; any time frame as to how long testing normally takes?

i also have a locked one from suncom, and i'm trying hard as ever to get it unlocked but suncom will just not budge.

Posted by: ItalianAngel831

this phone now so old it not even worth buying and the spec r so not impressive

I just gave up and returned it; I tried very hard but was unable to get anyone from SunCom to budge either.

Posted by: brealmp3

well i bought mine from a friend who works at a suncom indirect for $110 bucks. so with this new law on sim locks passed, he is gonna try and get it for me! but who knows, if not he has a customer who wants to buy it from me.

what part of nc you are you from?

Posted by: anubis9278

so does this mean that finally the 6102i may reach eol? and signal that nokia still cant get umts right?

side note: i love the push to open button...it makes me smile

the push to flip is the only real reason i wanted it! it reminded me so much of my i860 with nextel which is the only reason i liked nextel.

Ha ha, you probably bought his employee phone, as I believe that was the model that they were given. I thought about the SIM lock law, but wasn't quite sure how to effectively push it. Would you have told the person in the store, or customer service?

I live in Charlotte. What about you?

Posted by: brealmp3

yea it was his employee phone, but they were giving him a new phone. i have been going through the e-mail cs on their site because i can never get through on the phone.

i live in stanfield about 30 mins east of charlotte, but i work at concord mills. have you ever heard of CTC?

Sorry to do this to you guys, but I thought you would want to know.

That's good news. That's going to make good sales for Nokia, but I think the upcoming N75 might be a good competitor.

Since the drama was over I went to Ebay and got myself a 6131. I can't tell you how satisfied I am with the purchase.

Hopefully, Cingular will resolve the issue with the video messaging receiving problem on these phones. That's the only thing that doesn't work on the 6131s and probably doesn't work on the 6126 either since it is an MMS server problem.

Stanfield...I know exactly where you're at. Yeah, isn't the acronym for Concord Telephone Company? Do you work there? You guys have the kiosk right in the middle of the hallway, near Blacklion. How are sales there?

Posted by: anubis9278

.7 did your source tell you it was the 6126 or the 6085?

Posted by: MrLampost

Has anyone heard anything about if/when this phone will make it through testing?
It was a perfect fit for what I want out of a phone, but $240 is too much for me to spend for an unlocked version when my S710a does a perfectly good job for now (it's just somewhat bulky and I really prefer clamshells).
The Sync comes close, but the Cingular changes to it's firmware, no themes support and lack of a closed shell speakerphone really turn me off.
Plus the 6126's screen is amazing and I love the little click to open button.
(Did you know it can make a noise when you open it? I already have the Star Trek communicator sound set aside in case the phone actually comes out. )
So please tell me that the newer firmwares from Nokia solved whatever problems caused this phone to fail testing last time. I have Cingular Premier access through work so this would ba a great upgrade phone.

Please?

Posted by: at&t_hitman

The phone does support sounds when the flip is opened and closed when you produce a custom made theme.

Posted by: MrLampost

Is this phone actually back in testing, or is Cingular just messing with my head? This phone is exactly what I want, but the silence is making me unhappy.

You'd be better off just buying a phone with a good resale value, selling it on eBay, and then buying the 6126/6131/6133 unlocked and unbranded. That's what I was thinking about doing...

The 6126 is what I was told

Posted by: MrLampost

Dammit! If you'd have said no I could have settled on some other phone without feeling like I'd, well ... settled.
Now you've given me just enough of a sliver of hope to keep waiting ... and waiting.

Crap.

Posted by: at&t_hitman

The 6126 and 6085 are two totally different phones. The 6085 is going to be replacing the phaseing out 6102i. It's very decidedly low end. The 6126 is what it is. However, while I am another voice that can confirm it is indeed back in testing, my Nokia source is very adamant that this phone will be released with E Store in mind, possibly some authorized dealers.

Posted by: Mr. Bond

I'll chime back in and say that I hope we get this phone soon. I'm trying to sell mine at the moment, as I'm going back to Verizon; however I was very pleased with the call quality.

Posted by: yamahafirth

So, I am seriously considering buying the 6126 or 6131 unlocked for a cingular user... The main thing I am looking for is a clear good signal phone that has a camera. This phone seemed pretty simple. If someone thinks am going the wrong direction if they could push me in another.

Oh ya... one more thing I liked about this phone is the bluetooth and fact that i can make mp3 ringtones...

oh, if any one could explain to me what is good about quadband, that would be GREAT thanks!

The 6085 seems to have similar features to the 6126. What have you found different about the two? I'm assuming the 6085 would have the same screen as the 6102 and the 6126 would have the better screen it's always had.

Posted by: at&t_hitman

No, the 6085 is much more inferior with both displays. The 6085's internal display is more along the lines of the 6102. It is 128x160, although it does step up to 262,000 colors.

The external display is 96x68 blue LED!!! It's not color at all. Terrible for a 2007 phone. Although I'm sure it is absolutely fantastic for battery life.

The camera is still only VGA as well. It does have a memory card slot though. Either way, the 6085 is a very low end phone, even lower in some aspects then the 6102. It does have some minor functionality differences that are better. But feature hounds will really prefer the 6126.

But I bet you can actually see the display outdoors... That is why I do not like color outer displays...

Hi guys... you are right. I haven't really followed this thread but I'll add my 2 cents. I was a Nokia rep laid off very recently. 6102i will go to prepaid and be replaced by 6085. I've held the 6085 was kind of disappointed..its a lot thicker than I expected. It will play mp3's and have stereo bluetooth though. The 6030 replacement 2610 should be out in March and the 6085 is supposedly coming after that.

6126 is back in testing and supposedly will be sold thru the ecommerce channel. Its possible if it does well you could see it in the stores but who knows.

I got tired of wating for this phone, so I picked it up at the Nokia store in Chicago the other day. It is great so far, really fast interface. Took a little work to get the internet working on it, but I have it now. I am really impressed by the screen, it is very high quality, and isn't behind some plastic shield.

Last week, I got an unlocked 6126 off of ebay for a good price. So far, I couldn't be happier with the phone. It's also my first unbranded phone and I've been pleasantly surprised with the cleaner interface. I may have converted to an exclusively unblocked/unbranded user forever.

do you mean Nokia stores? cause the dummy phones are hitting the indirect channel this week but the phone itself hasn't been approved or in place for the upcoming line up as of today. why they are sending out dummies to stores is a mystery to me.

It's not the first time Cinguar has suffered from Premature dummy distribution.

Many time were Dummy phones delivered that were never launched at all.

I wonder how long the spring loaded automatic flip will last?? feels real flimsy on the dummy

i got a release date approximate of course....drums...3/13

Posted by: DonaldMick

Whoa, when did this one get approved?

Posted by: anubis9278

around last week

Posted by: Mr. Bond

Wow, I never thought that I would see the day!

Posted by: meister74

Good to know I'll have a Nokia alternative if the N75 never sees the light of day.

Posted by: PhantomFone

And almost 1 year later ... smh

Posted by: dcdttu

Gosh, I have waited and waited for this phone to come out.... To the point where I am probably not the only one thinking this should be a 3G Series 40 phone, rather than a GSM one. I currently have a W810i, the closest thing I could find to my beloved 6230b.... I sit here thinking, "Gee, it works very well, is fast, has great reception and beats any Nokia made for battery life (not hard to do)... Do I want the 6126 any more?"

What would you guys do? I hear that the 6126 doesn't even have the typical Nokia reception, either... I'd almost get a W300i if I were in the market...

The 6131 has Nokia reception... I can't imagine the 6126 is any different.

Posted by: bobolito

That's right. The 6131 has NOKIA reception. Better than any Motorola I've used.

Posted by: dcdttu

Ok, yay! That's a good thing. I'd heard some conversations to the contrary regarding this phone's reception.

I loved my 6230, the V3 did good at that, and my SE810i is very very good, esp when compared to past SE's.

Thanks for the input.

I own a razr.... although the razr is very good... the Nokia is better

And exactly who did you hear this from? I have never used the 6126, but I have used/owned the 6131 and unless Nokia made some antenna changes or just did something to worsen reception (not likely), then I don't see why the 6126 show fair any different than the 6131.

Posted by: Mr. Bond

I owned the Nokia 6131 for a period of time, and find the V3xx to be much stronger in terms of reception. Personal preference, I suppose.

I'll confirm that - the 6131 has great Nokia reception! Have used it in NYC, far off suburbs, a little town in Tuscany, and big Europeans cities, where reception is always good, anyway.

Posted by: Baldilocks

Quote:

Nokia and Moto's perform about the same for me. My house has metal siding and a metal roof..so not much gets thru. My V3xx has 4 out of 5 bars inside.
My nokia 6030 backup and an old 3595 get about 2 or 3 out of 7 bars.

Posted by: quillhill

I played with a dummy phone Nokia 6126 yesterday in a Cingular indirect yesterday. So, kind of makes me think a release is imminent.

I took pics of the dummy phone in case anyone wants to see. Heh.

Posted by: dcdttu

The only problem with posting a comparison between the V3xx and any Nokia in the US is that you have to specify whether the V3xx is on a 3G or 2G network. Otherwise you're comparing two different signals and possibly two different towers.

I heard about the reception on the 6126/6131 somewhere, I can't really remember where... You kinda just read the posts until you have one in hand. Everyone keeps speaking of phones like 6230 for reception, and I would have thought comments about the 6131/6126 would have surpassed that phone by now.

Posted by: bsannich2

how is it that the status of this thing FINALLY changes to approved, and the thread runs dry???

any news on a release??

Posted by: nave462000

ummm what...its back!

Posted by: dcdttu

Well, I guess it's not going to be released on the 12th (today). Maybe next week, month, year... :-)

Posted by: cing3760

it should hit stores soon, it showed up on cingular ringtone site today, it wasn't there this morning. that usually means a release date .
friend of mine that works for cingular here in iowa, said this coming week week, he heard it from his regional manager. but he's been wrong before...

This thread should be changed to "Released" cause I just ordered it off the Premier site! Granted this should be a Series 40 3G phone being released this late in the game... but hey. Any Nokia in North America is welcome...

I ordered my on friday thru 611 and it was only 54.99 great price. Now im justwaiting for it to be delivered.

Has anyone received their Cingular branded 6126? Curious to know how it is in terms of reception/battery life. I'm guessing it shouldn't be any different than what's posted on the Nokia forum but you never know...

Yes, I meant the premier site, sorry for being so vague. To my understanding, the company that you work for must have a deal with Cingular for you to gain access to the Premier site. The university I work for allows you to sign up for a Cingular discount which gives you access to the premier site.

Posted by: cing3760

i got mine today, i ordered it on friday from premier.
in terms r reception is as good as any other nokia y ever had. It has definetively much better reception than my v3xx.
edge speeds do seen a little slow compared to other cingular edge phones.

Yeah I tried one last week. Did not keep it long enough to test the battery.

Maybe this is a it harsh, but I have a fringe location and a 3620 to compare it to. 6126 wasn't up to the RF challenge but I have seen many worse.

The killer for me was inadequate volume in earpiece and in wired headset. At premier price I might keep it if it were not for likely "contract" extension. If you intend to peddle these I suggest you watch for that. Also box and web site incorrectly say infrared.

Posted by: bobolito

I have a 6131 which is almost the same phone. The earpiece volume is loud and has excellent sound quality. RF is excellent just like any other Nokia. Battery life is not the best but it's not bad. If you charge it every night you have enough charge for plenty of use during the day. After so much testing I would've expected the Cingular 6126 would try and be better than mine.

Posted by: dkpbone

I've read several different places that the 6126 has FM Radio, and other places said it didn't. From the people who actually have the phone in hand, does this phone have an FM Radio?

Posted by: steveschbr

No. My 6102 had it - but it was kinda dumb I always thought!

I at one time had a 6800 with a radio and found it quite handy to listen to the news while commuting to work on the bus. Now that I'm beginning that commute again, was looking for a nokia with a radio. Shame the 6126 doesn't have it.

okay, 4/9 for the stores on 6126 and 6085 set to replace 6102i.

Well that doesn't make sense, most of this thread and other places say the 6126 has the FM radio and then some say it doesn't. What's going on?

Sounds like a great price...I'd love it for that price...was this a new line or upgrade?

This phone was shipped with Flash Mobile! That means YouTube's upcoming mobile site will be compatible with tihs phone!

We ordered 10 of these for our store and they sent freakin' 60 OF THEM!!!

Posted by: baker1369

whats the branding like on these phones? I think mine is coming in today. The reps in the store had no idea what phone I was talking about so I ordered online.

was an upgrade, i called 611 ask the price thats what they said and i ordered it, no haggling or anything.

Posted by: Michael95GT

I don't have time to read the whole thread right now. So has the 6126 shown up in any stores, or is it an "Online only" deal?

Also has battery life improved over the 6131? That was the only downside to I noticed when I had it.

Just wondering was this including the $18 activation fee ... and what about shipping? I really want this phone but I'm nervous about not getting it because it doesnt have 3G, which is really the future. Also, I have a feeling that there might be a rebate for it soon, the current cingular.com rebates are through the end of March so they might release new rebate pricing soon.

It's been said to be appearing in stores in the next week or so but online for now. And I don't know about how it compares to the 6131 but battery life has been the one complaint I've seen everywhere and I wouldn't imagine it would differ much from the 6131 because they are essentially the same phone.

I've been testing this phone for our company as a field device for the last week. I'm upset to find out this thing doesn't have the build quality I was expecting, nor an auxiliary antenna port for vehicle-mounted solutions. While I love the S60 interface, great camera, high res screen, reception, speakerphone and keypad (wow, easiest regular 'pad to send SMS on ever), it just didn't have the rigidity of the kind of field phone I was looking for.

While I didn't really want to find a replacement, it didn't hurt to look. I'm keeping our 500+ mid-continent rig personnel on the Motorola V365 for now, which I am for once, far more impressed with overall (no crappy-feeling hinge release button like the 6126). Though I would probably recommend it to friends and family.

6126: field phone BAD. city phone GOOD.

I was curious about the build quality of the phone, so, thanks for the heads up on the hinge/sturdiness. I may just keep my w810 as my backup phone instead of picking one of these up.

Oh, and the 6126 is S40

Price w/new contract or upgrade just went down to $49.99 (from $79.99) after $50 MIR!

That is pretty much equivalent to the 54.99 I paid via premier, and the MIR is a whole lot more trouble.

Ain't worth it, I declare. If the volume had been sufficient I would have kept it at that price without any stinking contract extension because the displays really are nice. A phone really isn't about display greatness though is it? N6126 went back. S/E has me spoiled with W810i.

Posted by: SVphone

so the w810 has a louder earpiece volume than the 6126?

its actually Series 40. this is important for those of you who love your s60 apps. :-\

on the plus side its got full on Flash Lite. I was able to grab some of t hose flash backgrounds and interfaces for japanese phones and get em working. Its much easier than doing the cracks for the w810 I tell ya.

yes. at least in my experience so far. I did the flash to my w810 and the earpiece volume went way up. its quite a loud little phone now.

now thats not to say the 6126 is any slouch. I do okay with it. It just has a sweet spot that works REALLY well and otherwise is just okay. We'll put it this way...if theres loud construction nearby theres no chance of the 6126 passing muster.

What kind of downstream speeds do yall get with the 6126?

I ran about 30 tests at the DSL Reports mobile speed test ( http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed) and got these results:

Test size: 100k

Location: Houston, Texas

Mean: 141 kbits/sec
Max: 171 kbits/sec
Min: 88 kbits/sec

95 CI = [94.78,188.39]

Anyone else get similar results? Is this what I should expect from a Edge Class 10 device?

Happy Easter.

Cool site, did not even know about it. Thanks for the link. By the way, my Tmobile service on a 6133 (AKA 6126) is 59 kbps.

Thanks.

Went to a AT&T(Cingular) store test out the 6126 since I was thinking about using it as a partner phone for my w810i. Anyway, screen is great, menu interface is fast and responsive, and test calls that I made were loud and clear. I had to take the SIM out of my w810i to test the 6126( store didn't have a display yet), so I couldn't really judge if it was louder than my w810i or not, but it was pretty loud. Decided to order it, should get it in 2 business days. My only possible grief is the battery life, hopefully I can deal with it, otherwise I'll return it probably for the 6085 if AT&T gets it.

I know the early versions of the 6126 which were the 6130, I think, had a lot of problems with volume. However, the problem has been completely corrected since then, especially since they released the 6126 and 6133. Battery life is very pitiful. If you are like me, your phone will require a charge every night. If you are like my wife, a chatterbox, you will have the charge your phone in the middle of the day.

Overall, I think you will like the phone. Its OS is faster than symbian phones, by far.

Does screen brightness play a huge part in the battery life, or not much at all? Rarely do I talk more than an hour to any one person, and sometimes go a few days without talking on the phone at all...the w810i make it seem I can talk and talk and still have juice left, reason why I'm still keeping it.

To be honest with you, I do not know. However, I would say it probably does. My screen is at it's brightest. My wife's is at normal, but her batt still dies quicker than mine. It was a just a poor choice of a battery on Nokia's behalf.

I got these results using the 100KB test size. However, I have a 6131:

1st test - 198kbps, 0.786s latency
2nd test - 169kbps, 0.806s latency
3rd test - 171kbps, 0.781s latency
4th test - 183kbps, 0.821s latency
5th test - 171kbps, 0.791s latency

If battery life is awful, does Nokia have any extended battery for this phone?

Posted by: Boy_Pinoy

I got mine today, and IMO the earpiece is not that loud (already at level 10) compared to a Moto V551 & SLVR with seem edited gain table.

I like the internal screen, the resolution is awesome and the size is perfect.

For some reason, I can't do OBEX with a Moto v551. Nokia 6126 & Moto V551 (both Cingular branded) will pair and see each other, but can't transfer any ringtones or pics. I get a "Connection Failed" message. However, I can do OBEX between the 6126 and a Cingular branded Nokia 6230. Same Moto V551 can OBEX with the Nokia 6230 as well.

Any ideas or suggestions?

I guess Cingular Testers don't check the phones out as good as IHAP boasts!! Shem on them.... Needs a firmware update.

At last someone with same experience I had. Yeah the screens are beautiful. It was OK for me on BT but the earpiece and wired headset both lacked sufficient volume. I may not have the best hearing in the world but I have plenty of other cell phones with plenty of audio gain.

I dumped mine. Right back to them 1 day after I got it. Box says IR and there is none. That is like the C207 that had support for Java apps. That was true as long as they did not need some sort of connection. I am thinking they could use a little QC on their ad copy.

Compared to your w810i, how would the volume of the 6126 measure up?

Oh I would say 6 db difference maybe? Non-scientific guess of course.

W810i has plenty of volume. Have to back it off at least a couple of notches from full. N6126 was inadequate cranked up all the way. From what we are seeing reported, I would say mine was definitely defective and there are plenty of them with adequate audio gain.

I am still a Nokia fan but W810i is the finest phone I have ever owned.

Cool, plan on doing an in-depth test when I get my phone tomorrow. I agree about the w810i, it is a fine phone, plan on keeping mine. I kinda miss flip phones so I'm trying them again...I would get the z550a from Sony Ericsson, but the quadband version isn't out yet apparently.

holy crap, cingular finally released the 6126!!!

what a roller coaster ride that was huh?

Posted by: amendelson

I went in to a CORP store late last week to see if I could test out the phone and they didn't have it, and the rep said she didn't think it would make it to the stores, or at least for a while. Kind of disappointing because I'd like to test it out before I buy it because I really like it - I think. Any idea if any stores will carry it?

Posted by: susieq4263

I ordered the 6126 the minute it hit the website and have been really pleased. The key to the battery life issue seems to be to "condition" the battery, as someone had posted in phonescoop. If you let the battery completely drain before charging the first 3 times, it really helps. I charged the phone on Sunday, and have used the phone moderately since, and could probably have waited until tonight to charge it.

Every store in my area has it, but they don't have it on display yet. I had to ask about it otherwise I wouldn't of known they had it.

Posted by: bobolito

My only problem with this phone is the microphone placement. You would never imagine where it is located. Therefore, just like most candybars, the microphone picks up every noise/sound/etc. around me and it annoys callers. Sometimes I lower my TV set so I can barely hear it and move far from it, but still my callers say they can hear it! So if you are in a noisy area, or some place where there's people around you talking, you can't really use this phone.

Had the microphone been located by the mouthpiece where most flip phones have it, they wouldn't have to make it so hyper-sensitive.

The problem goes away, however, when using my Bluetooth headset or the 3.5mm adapter to connect to the car radio, which has a microphone of its own.

The same applies to the stores here in SF & Northern Peninsula. I'm suspecting (not sure though) that Cingular's sales approach for the N6126 maybe similar to the SE W300, that is, the 6126 can be purchased only from cingular.com, premier, and some indirect like Radio Shack, Best Buy, etc. but not in corporate stores.

I played with the 6133 in a T-Mo corporate store before buying the 6126. 6133 and 6126 has minor difference in the UI, namely (1) their respective branding, and (2) the lack of FM radio on 6126. Other than that, physically its the same phone.

Also, T-Mo's 6133, according to their rep, comes with a Nokia stereo headset, while Cingular's 6126 did not. But then again, Cingular's 6126 is about $45 cheaper than T-Mo's 6133.

It's worth a shot but I was in Best Buy last week and didn't notice it. I just went into a new CORP store in SE MI and while it was cavernous and very AT&T-ish, the prices were awful, and the reps were not knowledgeable. They said the 6126 is online only, but I'm going to try my luck when I go back to NYC, and then based on the majority of the positive feedback, probably just order it. At $49.99 even for an upgrade the phone is very affordable and a great value, I think.

Posted by: Le_Chrome

Well I received the 6126 today in the mail, and already going to either return it or sell it. Call quality is loud and good, screen is great, literally everything about the phone is good, it's just that I have been using bar shaped phones for a long while I forgot how uncomfortable flip phones feel to me. I thought I would give it a chance, but no go, staying with the w810i or upgrading to the k550....anyway, the phone IMO is great if your into flip phones.

Posted by: amendelson

I was in a multi-network store today and I asked about the 6126, fully knowing theres no chance he'd have it or even think he'd have heard of it. He asked if i was talking about 'the phone with the button to open it' and I said yes. He had the nearly identical T-Mo version, so first I'm wondering, if this is it's most distinguishing feature, is it really that bad/noticeable that he'd identify it by that? Also, he said, why are you going for Nokia, the SYNC is really good and kinda similar. I didn't wanna get into it and tell him I've spent time reading intense reviews, but I also didn't have a solid answer. Any insights?

Posted by: Jconey

I bought this phone un-branded at the Nokia store a few month before it came out on Cingular, and it has been absolutely great. The earpiece is really loud in my opinion, and putting it on speaker phone makes it extremely loud, I keep the volume right in the middle otherwise it is just too much. The reception has been great, the only time I really can't get a signal is when I am underground somewhere. I really like the screen and how there is no plastic sheild in front of it. I never get any complaints from people I am talking to that they cannot hear me or there is background noise.

I love the flip open as well, now when I use a different flip phone, I am always pressing in the corner to open it.

Posted by: edsram

Read all of this before doing anything, don't actually do the following!!!! Here's a good one. Go to your browser favorites, delete the "Mall". Now go to the main menu, now there is one less icon in the menu. That drives me nuts that I did that. Of course no one knows how to hard reset the thing either.

Posted by: amendelson

Anyone been able to find this phone in stores yet? I really want it but need to play around with it first.

Posted by: RYOBI

Was in a corp store this past week. They had them on display. Got a chance to play around with one. Wasn't impressed with the "feel" of the phone. The buttons seemed loose when I pressed them. The screen is really nice, call quality seemed pretty good. The push button open thing seemed kind of awkward to me, even though you can still open the phone without pushing the button. Ended up with the platnium V3xx instead.

Posted by: tszefr

What is with the power anyway? Could this phone be NOT a Nokia at all but perhaps a re-branded Pantech? Been using Nokia since the 5165 and this is the only one I have ever seen with a different form factor for the power plug.

As much as I despise anything I have seen from Motorola in recent years, I am thinking the V3xx might indeed be a better choice. A RAZR looks like it is meant to fold together while the 6126 doesn't. I didn't really care for the push button either.

Nope not a re-branded Pantech. They are only doing that for cdma.

I had the same problem with the first firmware my 6131 had (3.72). I could pair with Motorolas but I could never transfer anything to/from any Motorola. I upgraded to 5.5 and it works fine now with Motorolas. However, there are still some Bluetooth bugs in it. The other day, I paired it with a T-Mobile BlackBerry Pearl, but it would not copy an MP3 I had in my 6131 to the Pearl. However, doing the transfer the opposite way (from the Pearl to the 6131) worked fine.

Posted by: Jedigreedo

So, has anyone experienced how long the battery will last when continuously listening to mp3s?

Price was just lowered to FREE AR on Cingular.com for new line and upgrades. I really want it but now I'm getting nervous if they are shoving them out the door like that. Plus, I also kinda want to get at&t branding. What do you guys think?

You know what they say about "free" phones. When I tried one it was 50 something premier price. Besides the different power, mine had inadequate volume though it was OK over bluetooth. I sent it right back; not worth that price if it entails any contract extension. Same opinion for zero. At zero they may very well charge you tax on $499 or so. If it had been "no commitment" I would have kept it for the 50 something bucks. $0 for 6126, $70 for W810i. That is about right.

I just got mine and I am very satisfied. One annoying thing is that on the outside display you cannot move the clock lower down and it interferes with your phone's outside display background. Does anyone know a way around this?

ha I wanted this phone like 6 months ago, now it's outdated. But for the price it's not too shabby.

I'm the same way... I was dying to have this phone about 6 months ago... But not so much anymore. Even though I still wouldn't mind having it, I have reconsidered after hearing some of the [major] downfalls to the phone. Plus, Cingular is so crappy here that my next phone needs to be 3G.

And like you said, you can't go wrong with that price! Sometimes Cingular charges too much for their handsets when other carriers are selling them cheaper.

To anyone else who has this phone, I've noticed after having it for 2 days that the hinge seems very loose, and its a little annoying. Does anyone else notice this or if its just mine, do you think they will replace it? If this is a problem with all the phones, then should I be worried about durability?

Cingular can't even unlocked their own 6126! I got the subsidy code, entered it 4 times already, and it still is locked to Cingular. Called Cingular tech support, have it escalated, and still no one within tech support can't give me the correct code.

I finally gave up on this one, so its just sitting on my desk drawer!

In fairness to Cingular, this is the first time that Cingular can't unlocked their own phone.

I have had this phone since it came out on the website, and like it just fine - except that I can no longer send or receive text messages. I rarely use this feature and do not have a specific plan for texting, but am supposed to be able use it on a pay per use basis. People that send messages to me do not get an error message, I just never receive it. I have looked all over the setup menues and dont find anywhere that something needs to be "turned on". Has anyone else had this problem?

Wow sounds familar. You know they are going to stick you good if you send or receive? When Cingular came out with the obscene text price hike I called them up and had all text blocked so we know it is possible on that end.

In the dark distant past I had a Cingular 5165 with a similar problem. Send mail and it went to /dev/null. Cingular could not/would not figure it out so I got an ATTWS 5165 that worked. Years later I reactivated that phone on Beyond and found it still could not succeed in sending SMS mail. Thus we would conclude that it is possible the problem is in your phone.

Your cell bill is high enough, no? Why not require them to figure it out?

2.2" internal (same as V3xx) compared to 2.4" for the N75. (Both have 16.7M color QVGA resolution).

1.36" external screens on both. (128x160) 262K color.

Books and a wall wart. Good thing too because any other Nokia charger you are likely to have won't work. Headset wise though if you have a POP port headset or a bluetooth you are good to go if the volume is good. Mine was ok on bluetooth but unacceptable on wired headset. I did not keep it long enough to find out if CA-42 cable works.

wow, that's pretty cheap of them! Nokia's i've gotten in the past usually have all the gear included. thanks for the info.

Only unbranded Nokias. Nokias from the carrier have nothing.

Are these still Cingular branded? Or are they ATT branded now? Also I need to get a lighter phone because I hate carrying the treo around all day....would you guys suggest this or maybe the 3g razr?

I have not tried a razr but I did take and promptly dump an L2. Could not stand motorola phone book handling. If you can, and you like the way they do a keypad, the razr might make sense.

The 6126 has outstanding displays. Keyboard is nice and it is much like other Nokias but it didn't pass muster for me either because mine had inadequate audio gain in earpiece and wired. It also did not have IR like they said. For $50 I still would have kept it if it had not implied contract extension. Forget that nonsense; not worth it.

Out of the current lineup, the W810i is the finest phone I have ever owned. Opinion is somewhat skewed because I have not seen most of the offered phones.

would an owner of this phone please tell me the most current firmware ? and is the reason i can't update mine from nokia's updater because my phone is locked to ATT ?

Wow - this thread is long.
Has anyone had the opportunity to unbrand the phone? Restore it back to its nokia stuff and not at&t/cingular stuff.

Also how is the moddabilityof this phone? Is it better to mod cuz of the OS vs say the v3xx?

Posted by: biggdaddyt

I think any motorola is more moddable (if thats a word). With motos you have the ability to flash them and all the seem edits to do. But even with all that I still loved the 6131 when I had it. It was the best Nokia I ever owned. Its kinda outdated now so Im leaning toward the V3xx...

The V3xx doesn't handle the phonebook in the same manner that the older RAZR V3's did. There is only one entry per individual/company now, along with many new fields.

Posted by: biggdaddyt

Hey guys just want to thank everyone for their input. I decided to go with the V3xx. Cingular is having a 3G sale and got it for a pretty reasonable price. I still like the Nokia just decided that the 3G is a little more important to me than I thought.

Thanks again!

Is this phone smaller than the SYNC, I hate ths syncs size and was hoping this was a bit smaller like the 6102

Posted by: biggdaddyt

Hey guys 1 more question...my wife's going to upgrade soon and I've almost got her sold on this being better than lets say the SE W300i. Now I looked through some of the posts already and it looks like the FIDO version doesnt let you set mp3s as ringtones....is this true for the Cingular errr I mean ATT version? Thanks!

Not sure of the size of the sync, but I will tell you that the 6126 is very small and light . . . Very "pocketable." I got it late last week and it is a great phone IMO.

I can set mp3 ringtones just fine on my Cingular/ATT version. I did however edit the mp3 files so they were <1min long, not sure if that makes any difference. Also, I'm using the internal memory to hold the mp3s, not a flash card.

Has any one had to replace the lens over the outer screen? My dad cracked his and I just received the new lens in the mail. Is there a trick to opening the top of the phone to get to the lens? Is it difficult? Any tips?

Posted by: biggdaddyt

Well I did manage to sell the wife on the 6126 and we should have it tomorrow! Thanks again for everyone's help!

Posted by: Satan_

so I've been a long time lurker here and just now registered. I have the 6126 and I like it quite a bit, but it just started crashing when I try and insert a photo into a multimeda message.

any clue as to what's up?
