(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: WoNGsTeR

sigh.. last week they pulled me over at 4 am.. to check my entire car for any mods..

now today.. two cop cars tail gated me for about 15 mins.. and then pulled me over, they couldn't find anything on my car so give me a ticket for a dirty lic plate.

sigh!!!! having bad luck with cops lately...

just had to vent that out!!.. $90 for a ticket...

Posted by: turbo_slug

poor you..

Posted by: WRX2k3

sucks to be you.

btw, what violation does it say on your "dirty plates" ticket?

So i guess its our own responsibility to keep the plates clean at all times.. and at all costs? I mean, what if it was clean, but this current drive made it dirty. So are you supposed to get out of your car every 10mins to clean it?

it has a lot to do with location and time of day...some times the cop has to make a "quota"...or there may have been some sort of "situation" and they are on "alert".

I usually just "tint" my windows for maximum "privacy"...i got pulled over a lot when they were cracking down on street racing.
That time i had a Supra '97...(long gone).

yup, details are important! go read the bullcrap on some car forums and you 'll laugh ur *** off how some idiots got off scott free...

they should have ticketed you for an illegal plate protector not a dirty plate(ask your lawyer, there's a fairly good chance you can fight this ticket).

imagine what would happen if they got the details wrong in a big huge court case...

the accused will most likely be let free, eh?

Posted by: jfandem

Umm , you got a ticket for a dirty liscence plate? Screw that, ive never heard of such a thing. It must be them canadian cops or something, seriously thats ridiculous, are you sure they can do that? Also , are you not allowed to have mods on your car in canada or something?

Posted by: Hello?

You can thank the 407etr for that "dirty plate" law. Speaking of which, they are raising the rate again this time to 12.95 cents/km starting Feburary! Anyone know any tricks?! (not taking it isn't a trick!)

I'm sorry if I've missed it, but where did these incidents occur? Just want to make sure I don't go around there if possible. My car is all stock as well.

I think it really depends on what exactly he got ticketed on.

If it's something like "dirty plate" he can get away probably. IF it's obstructed plate, then it's not as easy.

I hate these stupid pullovers and car checks just because the car is an import. grr. i should just get an echo... wait. that's an import too. doh.

Posted by: WoNGsTeR

it happened along the markham and 14th area..

and.. basically... twice in two weeks i got pulled over for dirty plates.. first time. i cleaned it.. and then we had snow.. so it got dirty... then go pulled over by two not one but two cop cars!!.. which was very embarrassing.. sigh...

Posted by: Stock R

what does your car look like to make it such a target?

pure stock? body work? power train?

Posted by: quickalex

no one ever replied if its illegal to mod your car in CA, i also am confused

Cops want you to take it to court. They get paid to go to court... if it gets thrown out or not.

u got pulled over twice in two weeks. I got pulled over twice this weekend. Once on Saturday, and once on Sunday. I had a neon light license plate frame, got a ticket for it on Saturday...then I was in Mississauga, and Peel Region Police pulled me over again. I showed the ticket, said that I just got a ticket yesterday, and will get it taken off on Monday because my technician isn't there on Sunday. He didn't care. He said that was Toronto Police, this is Peel police, and he issued me a ticket too. It's ridiculous. I wasn't speeding or anything. It's stupid. How will people confuse my blue license plate with a freakin' snow removal vehicle? It's just not fair.

Depends on the mod.

Posted by: hkalltheway

It's not only Canada. In New York, and several other states, you can't have freakin' blue windshield washer lights!! I got ticketed for those!! haha

Posted by: CuCullin

The reason for that is, you need a permit for red/blue lights. "Impersonating an Emergency Vehicle". Now, being that I'm on the FD in my town, I have a permit.... however, the requirements are that it is only applicable in the town that you have the permit in. So, if I were to go another town over, with my blue light in my windshield, TECHNICALLY, I could get a ticket, not that they would.

How about this one...

I had a 1985 Camaro IROC Z28. I took it off the road to work on it some, so I took the insurance off, since I also had a 1986 Cougar. A little later, I get a letter in the mail from the DMV stating that my license would be scheduled for suspension if I didn't return the plates. So, I brought my plates back that day, and I got a dated receipt for my plates. A few weeks later, I get a letter saying that my license was suspended. After a few phone calls and a faxed copy of the reciept, everything was A-OK.

Or so I thought. 8 months later (which shows I do nothing wrong), I was pulled over for a brake light being out, which wasn't even a brake light - it's a parking light, so of course it won't get brighter when I put my foot on the brake. I was then told by the cop that my license was suspended.

So.... I needed to hitch a ride to the regional DMV, wait there for a few hours, and pay a restoration fee for THEIR SCREWUP, of $140 or so. Then I had the wonderful opportunity to go to court, along with paperwork showing my license was in good standing, and a statement from a neighbor (he's a mechanic) that said the "brake lamp" in question was a parking lamp, nothing else.

I may be on the FD, but I hate cops... most are simply out to pull over anyone under the age of 30, with the idea in their had that we have to be doing SOMETHING wrong, so they will give us a ticket for whatever they can find.

Posted by: ttrimmer

Everyone says they hate cops until they need help. Then the police are the first people they call.

Posted by: cold_fire

i have a lancer now
but what if i brought a evo vii
thats still stock, isn't it
and still watch those *** cops still pull u over if they have nothing to do.

Posted by: WoNGsTeR

trust me.. i drive a 98 talon.. and its all stock.. and for some reason i've been getting tailed by comes.. i haven't gotten pulled over for 2 weeks now from that dirty plate ticket.. but ever since that i've been tailed by them atleast 5 times.. like for example today.... one cop followed me for 15-20 mins on my ***..

can anybody explain why???... i would understand if my car was riced up or had some performance.. but it is all stock.. only think i really add to it is strut bars on front and back (which they cant see from outside anyways).. and have xenon headlights.., and my clear lic plate protector..

sigh... i'm really starting to hate cops theses days..

Posted by: aofe

Your best bet (if possible) is to request a "first attendance" when you go to set a court date. What happens is that you see a judge one to one, you explain your situation (snow fell on the plate or whatever) and usally they will drop the charge. If they don't, you can always set a real court date and then defend yourself, or call a "cops" lawyer or whatever...
I had a similar situation where I got pulled over for a non working headlight. Irionic thing was that almost 4-5 cars passed us with no headlights.... I got a first attendance and told them I replaced the light the next day and they dropped the charge.....

Here's a link with some more detail for Toronto offences.
http://www.city.toronto.on.ca/court_services/faq.htm

Hope that helps....

Posted by: WoNGsTeR

lol you know what though?.. that day.. everybodies lic plate was dirty cause of the winter.. but both those two cop cars just decided to go after me instead.. sigh..

No slight or insult intended. Are u the same race/heritage
as the latest drug entrepreneurs. This would truely be unforunate.
I do know that this kind of problem exists.

I have only heard of one person getting a dirty license plate viloation.
And that was a long time ago. I wonder sometime what strategy the police
use on ticketing. I do know that they do have quota's on tickets.
This was admited by Calgary's mayor. And the fact that 17% of
Alberta's income come from traffic fines.
Personally I cant see anyone could not get a ticket when
a cop is down on his quota.

If I was to blame anyone it would be admin. more than the cop on the beat.
I generally try to keep my atitude about cops in check. As the
only time I have to deal with them is negative (tickets).
In reality they deal with a lot of situations that take more courage
and maturity than I would want to call on daily. ie: death, rape, domestic abuse.
I have dealt with someone after they were raped and it was still bothers me to this day.

man they really must be desperate because two cop cars pulled me over not just one..

Posted by: big Juan

The odds of this happening in 2 weeks are astonomical.
Maybe Tony Saprano or Mel Lastman's worst enemy
drives a talon. And that why your getting all the attension.
And then once they have realized that u don't fit the profile
they have to justify their time, hence the ticket.
This is when a friend in the police dept would come in handy.
