From At&T 2 Cingular Contract Questions

So, I found out today I cant get my 8125 because my old plan im on was with AT&T (Sharedplan) and in order for me, or anyone else on the plan to get a newphone, we all have to get new phones and get a cingular plan witch is 30bucks more a month (rollover) and free nights start at 9, instead of 7. I think this is stupid and then also found out AT&T SIM cards dont work in cingular phones either, I thought this was REALLY stupid since they merged together as 1? So, I have a couple questions

1. My contract with this plan is over in 3months, do we have to wait for it to be over, and if I end it now to start a new cingular plan will I have to pay a fee for canceling the contract?

2. Do you only get your state employee discount once u start a new contract, or can u always get one.

I talked to the lady working there and she said i have to get MediaNet, it surprised me because I thought she said I was going to say get the DataPlan, and she also said the 8125 was a smartphone? I thought it was a PDA, eh?

Answers appreciated

1) if you only have 3 months left on your contract with at&t you can migrate over to cingular with out a cancelation fee, but you wold have to change your plan because of the different billing systems.

2) cingular also has discounts for state employees so you will still be able to get a discount on your monthly bill.

If you really want to stay on your at&t plan you can always look into buying an unlocked 8125 (ebay, etc... not through cingular) and put your at&t sim card in that. Also, for the data plan, the PDA connect at $39.99 is what you are supposed to put on that phone to use internet but there are a lot of people that have the medianet plans on that phone, so it could be done.

I tried something similar but Cingular was not able to add a dataplan or medianet plan to my account since it was AT&T. Seems I have to switch over to Cingular. Although there is no termination fee.

Basically, I can just shop for a Cingular phone bundle as if I were a new customer.
I'm also bummed about switching. I have a great plan due to an AT&T promo. Buy I really need email.

thanks for everything, i did want to get the unlocked 8125 but, if someones phone breaks on my shared plan we would all have to get new phones and i would need a new SIMcard and everything wud b just way to confusing

If you are on gsm, cingular is slowly migrating all aws accounts over to their system, intact as they are on blue. Once your blue plan is in the orange system you will be able to get orange equipment (a new sim will be required) but you will be able to keep your blue plan (no orange features allowed though).

I'm about 90% sure of this and I'll be getting confirmation on tuesday.

Can u manage to order the phone offline without the DataPlan but w/2yr and get it for the same price? If not im gonna order it on the phone.

I don't think any phone from cingular "requires" a data plan.

I got confirmation and unfortunately what I said above is not true Regarding blue upgrades)

Cingular is migrating blue accounts into the orange system but any equipment upgrades will require a plan change.

Data on the ATTWS side is known as 'Mmode'. You can still add this feature.
