yes, i have two of them

1. if youre getting this phone for the picture quality, forget about it. it's 1.3 but it's grainy as hell. ok on the phone though.

2. no problems, just functions you may not get as it only has the Japanese firmware, unless you call that a problem.

3. i'm in bay area, california and currently using it with Cingular without any problems.

4. no probelms for me.

5. no problems for me.

6. i like the phone for what it is. it all depends on what you want.for the price, this phone is nice.

7. you can convert them to AAC using iTunes than transfer them to your phone. with the Pana reader, you can directly transfer them to your phone and it will convert them to SD Audio format while transferring plus easier to maintain playlists so no problems either way.

8. i got the phone just because it was cheap. i just wanted to text with my wife in Japanese, the reason why i'm one of the ones not complaining it not having T9 and other firmwares for it was because i text in Japanese 99% of the time.

all in all it's a great phone. theres alot of threads out there on the 703SHf now so do your research before you buy and start complaining

Posted by: Timsta

hehe.e. thats the guy i misspelled his name tho.. haha.. but he can tell u where he got his 2nd 703shf from tho

Posted by: majidekeitai

俺なら日本語読めるけどw

yeah, phones don't come cheap but if your going through ebay, you have the chance of losing your hard earned money too so paying that extra $'s is another option. there's alot of suspisous sellers out there, always look at the feedback, it'll help out a little.

does any one have the black one? is it real carbon fiber? or what?

Posted by: Timsta

Is it not possible to get T9 on a 703SH at all?

I'm torn between the 703SH (esp. with the Japanese input) and the Panasonic VS6. I ended up getting the VS6, but there's a way to get T9 on the 703SH, I might return the Panasonic and get the 703SH instead.

Posted by: shimazu

i dont know about the sh, but the shf doesnt have t9 and it can be kind of annoying i guess. but i still like the phone a lot.

Posted by: azn_boi_128

703sh ( my sx313 fw ) has T9 and the euro fw also has t9 only 703shf and 703sh w/ jap. fw doesnt have T9

Posted by: pouting_girl

omg azn_boi...your siggie...

lol i dunno what's worse...tim having his email on his siggie...or more and more users having u-mobile siggies.....

Posted by: duncanmak

I think the one that I have access to (703SH) is one with only the Japanese firmware. It has bilingual Japanese/English menus (either/or), and the manuals are in mainly in Japanese with a little bit of English tagged on at the end.

Is it possible to change the firmware?

If i get a 703SH with European firmware (so that I can get T9), do I lose the ability to input Japanese as well?

I assume that even though there's a Chinese firmware available from Hong Kong, it's not possible to have English (T9), Japanese (predictive) and Chinese (pinyin) input all on the same phone, is that right?

Thank you.

Posted by: scotttttttttt

yeah.. is it possible to add in the JP lang pack on a euro or chinese fw?

Posted by: duncanmak

I'd like to add. I'm in Boston, so I don't have access to electronic stores in Hong Kong at all from here.

Maybe if I go to NYC, there might be some outfits who can do this....

Posted by: Timsta

there is for euro.. u can add japanese to euro

Posted by: AL9999

Ok, summary of 703 and 903 firmware language capabilities:

JP firmware: Has English & Japanese menus, Japanese text input support. Supports English input WITHOUT predictive text (T9).
EU firmware: Has English and 10 other Euro languages, all with menu display and T9 predictive text support. Also has font support for Japanese text only (i.e. you can display Japanese text, but can't load menus in Japanese or type Japanese).
HK/TW firmware: Has English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese support, with menu and T9 predictive text support for all.

You can't criss-cross language packs like they do with Nokias and Sony Ericsson phones - languages are locked in to each firmware.

If you want the Euro firmware but are desperate to type Japanese, I suggest you look at my template work around. Search the forums for 'Japanese template input' or something like that and you should get the post. It will allow you to type simple Japanese (ie Hiragana, Katakana and some of the most-used Kanji) using Euro firmware, but it's long and tedious so be prepared to have patience to use it. It's a workaround, not a proper fix for the problem.

Posted by: scotttttttttt

but tim told me i can get a 903 and add the JP lang. pack? can someone please clear this up for me..?

Posted by: Timsta

you can get a 903.. that is in japanese or euro firmware and write in japeanese

Posted by: azn_boi_128

ah ic ic so thats yea... what!? o man i'm so confused

Posted by: AL9999

Hmm I don't quite understand what Tim told you, but what I wrote is how it is He probably meant he can get you a 903 with the JP firmware on it, so you can write Japanese.

Tim, you can't write Japanese with the Euro firmware (unless you use my slow method of loading up Japanese from the text templates, but that's not truly writing Japanese ).

Posted by: scotttttttttt

Thanks for clearing that up AL. What exactly is the text template method? I did a search and also checked the stickies but couldn't find anything. If anyone could link me to a thread or explain it to me that would be great.

Posted by: AL9999

Scott, I did a search for 'japanese template', and my thread was on the 3rd page of the results.

Thanks for that. I can't remember what I searched for but I think I got too definite with my search terms, I only got 6 hits lol.

Anyway, that method is WAY too tedious for me, I got used to the standard JP entry techniques on my friends AU phone while I was there and want that same method. =)

Posted by: AL9999

Well that's cool... like I said in that thread, it's for people who want the benefits of the Euro firmware (like MP3 ringtones and T9 English for example) while still having the ability to write simple Japanese, no matter how annoying. I'd prefer to have JP input too, but I wouldn't sacrifice T9 English for it (and I want the camera of the 903, so that means staying away from the 904T too for me).

Posted by: Timsta

but... it looks like scot has to tsitck with the toshiba.

Posted by: scotttttttttt

Nup, because I can't have POP3 on the 904T anyway, so I'll probably go for a Euro 903. Sorry for jacking the thread, OP.

EDIT: Or, as I posted in the other thread, I may end up with a JP 903 + java app for pop3.. we'll see.

Posted by: Timsta

lol.. ur so indecisive

Posted by: scotttttttttt

That I am! These phones cost money you know..

Anyway I just want the best package I can get.

pennies to you.. you sell koalas and kangaroos online
